Today I started the Master Cleanse with the hubs and another friends of ours. Drinking only this lemonade concoction all day is definitely more difficult than I imagined and I am a bit crabby, as the hubs can attest to. We are attempting to do this for 10-11 days; I am just taking each day at a time. Now I think it's time for bed since we can't eat dinner!

Layers can be tricky in the South, as sometimes the weather just doesn't allow for them, even in the dead of winter, so this will definitely be a challenge for me.

project life | week three

Like many scrappy bloggers/instagramers out there, I have really been enjoying this process so far this year. And I can't believe it's the end of January!

Left side: Marathon weekend was on Sunday the 15th and this whole side of the spread was devoted to that day.

Right side: The rest of the spread was devoted to bits and pieces of the week. I included a photo of my desk at work, because even though I feel like work is just what I do, not who I am, I should acknowledge it somehow. I also happened to take two of my favorite photos of the boys this year so far that week. Love that I already have the pics in an album!

Yet another of our friends turned 40 and threw an amazing party last Saturday the 21st so I decided to make an extra spread about it.

I was able to cut the invitation to fit the pocket. I love getting stuff via snail mail and love that I have a place to put it!

And although we had a fabulous time at the party, some sadness abounded too - my dear friend T just learned her uncle suddenly passed away that night. She was understandably upset, but managed to stay through the party with the ones that love her.

I am looking forward to doing this week, hopefully some time today. Happy Sunday!

I have never been good at team sports, especially anything that involves a ball. That hand-eye-coordination is just not my thing. So in high school, when all the cool kids were playing volleyball, soccer or basketball, I was either running or doing conditioning (what the un-cool kids did during soccer season).

When I finally discovered yoga, particularly Ashtanga, I found where I belonged, on my mat, by myself. Yoga is a very personal activity, so I am so glad that the hubs understand my love for it.

Although Joe doesn't love it quite as much as I do, he does practice anywhere from 2-5 times/week, depending on his mood. And he gets why I have such a passion for it.

I am so lucky he has embraced the vegetarian lifestyle that usually accompanies yogis as they become more involved in the practice. I am so lucky he enjoys ending the work week with a Friday evening practice as much as I do. Having a partner who understand that I need to practice 6 days every week and who encourages me to do so makes it even better. So thanks for knowing what I need, Joe.

P.S. Our patient is doing much better, although he is already ready for the stitches to come out!

Joe swam into the wall of the pool yesterday morning and left himself with a minor injury. Fortunately the wound was superficial and simply required 3 stitches. Our patient is doing better this morning. But he did give his wife quite a little scare and she is glad he will survive.

This week has been that time of the month when I just want to be comfortable. It's also been a week where I have been bored with my clothes (again) so I wore a cardigan that I bought months ago but have yet to actually put on. See, hoarding has its benefits because I am wearing something new but haven't actually spent more money.

These pants are definitely my go-to when I want something easy yet put together. I wish Gap would make them in all colors of the rainbow!

Not much to say today except that I am sad the weekend is over.

We attended the 40th bday party of a friend of ours on Saturday night.

Everyone had a great time and the party lasted into the wee hours of Sunday morning.

I really liked my outfit too, but only got a picture of my new booties. They are DV by Dolce Vita that I found at Ross for $20. I decided life is too short to live without sparkly platform booties and bought them. My legs were aching by the end of the night, but they were worth it!

scrappy sunday | project life week 2

I am seriously enjoying the process and immediate gratification of doing this project this year.

I edit my fun Instagram pics in Photoshop so that 2 will fit on one 4x6 photo.

Last week was a busy one and I included a 6x12 insert in between the 2 main pages. This insert includes the best photo I snapped of the men's Olympic marathon trials. We were happy that Ryan Hall made the cut!

I am also trying to make an effort to include more of what the hubs is doing during the week as well. I finally got him hooked up to Instagram, but I don't think he's taken one photo yet...need to work on that.

The other insert includes 12 photos I took on the 12th of the month. These days, taking 12 photos through out the day is really no big deal. I think this kind of page will be especially fun to look at 10 years from now and see what parts of our everyday life has changed.

One of the biggest reasons/excuses people tell me that they don't practice yoga is that they just aren't flexible enough. And I nod, like I understand, and let them go their merry way. But inside I am screaming, "But that's what yoga is for!"

Being a runner for some 20+ years, I understand about having a stiff lower back and hamstrings. When I was training for the NYC marathon, I could tell that the longer runs (+2 hours) definitely made my yoga practice suffer. But continuing yoga throughout the training certainly kept me injury free. I have long since decided I much prefer the difficulty of yoga over the difficulty of running, but that's a story for another day.

My point is that, yes, yoga can be hard when you are not that flexible, but even if you go once or twice a week over a period of time, you can start to feel the difference. And you will become more limber. Not overnight, but what really happens that fast anyways?

Yoga doesn't just help with flexibility of the body; it can help with being more flexible in your mind too. Like accepting that today maybe a certain bind just isn't going to happen. Or no matter how much you try, your knees are in too much pain to sit in full lotus. But that's ok. Just do what you can. Namaste.

I was just thinking how long this week has felt and then realized it's already Thursday, so I shouldn't be complaining. Funny how the individual days seem long but the month has flown by - we are already closer to the end of January than the beginning. So now I am reminding myself to just enjoy every day for what it is and stop whining.

I love this tunic. It's long enough to cover what needs to be covered, but thin enough to layer and tuck in without adding any bulk. Now time for me to start and enjoy my day. I hope you do to!

A year or 2 ago I would never have worn a bright pink sweater with bright orange pants. But I adore this color combination and after seeing it so much in fashion magazines as well as blogs, I thought I would try my hand at bright color blocking. This outfit is so me, which is why I was happy with it.

The weekend has been packed with activities, all involving this boy, one of my besties from high school. He and his partner came down from NYC so he could run the Houston half-marathon. He did a fabulous job and finished in under 2 hours! Needless to say, our regular routine has been interupted and we will be trying to get back on track this week. But spending quality time with him was worth it!

scrappy sunday | project life week 1

My first Project Life album was completed in 2010 and housed my daily photos. Then I thought, "This is crazy. If I do this kind of album every year, I will have to build a new addition to anywhere we live to house all my scrapbooks!" So last year, I thought I would just make some mini albums to hold my photo-of-the-days:

About halfway through last year I started regret not having a full album, so I thought I would jump in full steam, join the PL bandwagon again. In an effort to keep it current, I have started printing my photos at Walgreens instead of waiting at the end of each month to print online. Luckily WG seems to have lots of different coupons every week, which makes the printing fairly inexpensive. So here is week one:

This year I will use the weekly approach, instead of the daily approach and include photos that speak to me, not necessarily my photo-of-the day.

I am obviously keeping the spread fairly simple, an adding only a little bit of stamping, stickers and some ephemera from the week. I enjoy the tactile nature of real photographs, as opposed to viewing them on the computer screen or in my phone, so this is a seriously fun way to document life but keep it simple.

I used to think practicing every day was too hard. That I should give my body a break. That I should try to do other things.

But the more I practiced and saw improvements in my flexibility, strength, coordination and mental state, the more I came back to my mat. Now I practice yoga almost exclusively, with a bit of running or cardio thrown in here or there for good measure. And really I have never felt better.

I guess my point is that whatever it is that you want to do, whether it be yoga, running, taking photos, picking out daily outfits, etc, the more you do it the better you can be at it. And doing a little every day is probably better than doing a lot all at once every now and then. I truly believe good things come to those who practice. Namaste.

Thursdays always seem to be the longest and hardest day of the week for it. Probably getting up before the sun comes up and working until after the sun goes down doesn't help. I keep the same work hours on Tuesday but the work day doesn't seem quite as exhausting then. Enough whining...

I absolutely adore this skirt and am not sure why I haven't worn it more. J. Crew really knows what they are doing with all their bright colors!

I woke up this morning and the clock read 4:53 AM, which, to me, means it's time to crawl out of bed, make some coffee and get ready for yoga in an hour. What I failed to realize was that when the hubs said to me about an hour earlier, that the clock seemed to be an hour ahead, he didn't change it to the correct time. So I was really up at 3:53 AM. So I am not sure if we fell asleep around 8 pm instead of 9 pm. At any rate, yes we are a bit insane to be up this early, but we really work more efficiently this way. I like the quiet and stillness of the early morning hours.

Yesterday was a nice Monday off from work and so I decided to re-wear a shirt from over the weekend. The only people who know are the hubs and now you. But I think I am a relatively clean person and the shirt is now in the laundry so it's ok.

The first full weekend of the year was nice and relaxing for us. Unfortunately the hubs had to work Saturday night so I took the opportunity to eat and watch Melancholia with a friend. I guess I had high expectations because it received many rave reviews, but I am not sure I really liked it. Without giving too much away, it's definitely a movie a person would either love or hate. The hubs would probably have been asleep within the first 10 minutes!

Tired of this skirt yet? I am not! I packed away all my shorts, since being January and all, but yesterday the temps were in the high 70s and so humid. Yes, definitely evidence of global warming, my friends. Wearing a skirt and tee were my next best options.

The only thing I had planned this week is getting my hair colored. I think it's been over 2 months since I last went in and I was desperately in need to color the white hairs! Megan recently wrote an excellent post about hair that I highly recommend, especially if you are thinking about changing yours.

I was also not kidding when I said I was going to remix and rewear my clothes. I've decided not to take myself or my clothes too seriously this year and wear what is fun and makes me happy.

Since working on and completing my December Daily album last month, I have renewed my love for gluing photos on paper. And with Instagram, I love seeing others' art as well as sharing my own. And thus the start of scrappy Sunday, where I will post about my crafty projects.

One of my favorite parts about Christmas is all the cards we receive in the mail. I would love to save each and every one, but we would be swimming in a sea of paper. So the trusty square punch to the rescue. Every year I punch part of each card and make a layout. I don't keep every single card, but I like the reminder of how our friends and family are doing each year. {This idea is straight from Ali.}

I am excited to start Project Life this year.

Only the title page is done as I am still waiting for some photos to be printed. More to come next week!

yoga | a good start

I am happy to report I am off to a good start this year in yoga practice. I like that the 1st this year was on a Sunday, because traditionally (and by traditionally I mean in Mysore, India), you begin your practice week on Sunday with a led class and end on a Friday with a led class. Monday through Thursday are mysore, or self-paced, classes.

I am also happy to report that I am starting the year feeling strong and injury free. I have been hesitant to post about yoga because every time I made progress and "boasted" on the blog last year, I seemed to hurt myself immediately after. But because it is such a big part of my life, I still want to talk about it, maybe just in general terms.

My schedule has allowed me to practice early in the morning before work, which I hope to continue this year. I used to think practicing before the sun came up was unimaginable, but now it really invigorates me for the day. They are called Sun Salutations for a reason! Part of the reason I wake up so early is to be a bit more warm before practicing.

The only practice I attend that is in the evening is on Friday, for a led class with my dear teacher and now friend, Erik. He and his wife Rachel, also my teacher and friend, are amazing people I am happy to know. Rachel is now back in India for 3 months and we miss her much! Joe and I have been going to Erik's class for years now and we enjoy it as much now, if not more, as we did when we started.

I am sad not to be returning to India this year, but happy for my time there. Namaste.

Returning to work this week hasn't been as crazy as I thought it would be. I'm thinking that is because people are on a "new year-new me" high and in unusually good spirits. I know I am...excited to see what 2012 brings, excited to start new paper projects, excited for some changes ahead. Let's hope it lasts! I am thankful for a short work week to ease back into things.

I am also excited to rewear and rework my clothes as much as I can. I've been toying with the idea of doing another 30-for-30 challenge, but I may just challenge myself to wear more unloved clothes instead.

I am tackling a few big whole-year creative projects, one of which includes my 5th year of taking a photo-a-day! For the 2012 366 edition, I am using my iPhone to take the photos and Instagram and My365 to post the photos, which will simplify things for me (I think I have talked about this simplification in almost every post so far this year...I guess it goes along with "LESS."). So these smile photos will include my POTD, as well as any other random thing that, well, makes me smile!

I am a bit embarrassed to say that even thought my One Little Word for 2012 is "LESS," the outfit that I am wearing here is all new. I have decided that the exception to my new 1-in-2-out rule to my closet will be shoes. While I will definitely be getting rid of some I don't wear that often, you really can never have enough. And usually they are different enough to justify being in my wardrobe. These wedges at Payless were pretty cheap (of course) but they are surprisingly cute and comfortable as well. Even if they wear out after one year I think they will be worth their minimal investment.

This last week of the year at work has been absolutely insane...I've been coming home every night thoroughly exhausted and now the thought that the last day of 2011 is almost upon us has sunk in. I have been thinking about different goals I have for 2012 but have yet to write anything down. I switched from resolutions to goals because resolutions are never kept, at least by me!

So, yes, I did get eyelash extensions on Monday. One of my colleagues at work had some put on and convinced me to try them. While I love the way they look, I am not sure I will maintain them. But they will be fun for New Year's Eve!

Today's pink sweater is the 4th one that I own. After sweater weather is over this season I will probably re-evaluate which ones I really need to keep and which ones I should give away. This one is definitely going to be a keeper because it's cashmere. I love Uniqlo and although I wish we had one in Houston, my closet is glad we don't.

I decided on December 26th that I was going to finish my December Daily this year on the 25th. While I have been really enjoyed this "real time scrapping," I am creatively tapped with this album.

Besides, I can barely close the album as it is. Adding 6 more days would make it almost unmanageable.

Something about the few days after Christmas always makes me feel a bit blue. I think in all the anticipation and planning of the "day," we forget that there needs to be things to do the day after as well.

In 2012 for every item of clothing I buy, I am going to donate 2 similar items from my closet. Not buying any clothes at all would be near impossible for me, but my poor closet is at its capacity. I figure forcing myself to get rid of things will make me think longer and harder before actually buying. LESS stuff is definitely one of my goals for 2012. I am hoping this is one step in the right direction.

I went to breakfast after yoga on Tuesday with one of my yoga peeps but forgot to bring my camera! Very unlike me, but it's ok.

On Wednesday I ate lunch with D, a dear friend whom I have known for ages, it seems like. Since he and M broke up a couple years ago, we don't hang out as much as we used to, so I am trying to make more of an effort to see him. One of my goals for next year is to make more of an effort with my friends. Sometimes being lazy and doing the same ole thing is just easy, but life is too short to do the same ole thing every day!

As you can probably tell, I am losing some creative steam with this album. I am still enjoying the process but am having less to say. And I am ok with that.

I feel like I am a bit of a clothing rut - top, skirt and boots. Those are my go-to items this season. During my last minute Christmas shopping yesterday, I even stepped into Anthropologie to check out their extra-50% off sale items sale and found absolutely nothing that I even wanted to try on. I am not sure if that's good or bad thing.

Today is going to be a busy day filled with seeing friends, grocery shopping, buying one last gift, wrapping and working on my December Daily album. I hope I can get it all done! If not, there's still tomorrow.

I wanted to document our early morning habits this month. We are more productive at 5 AM than at 9 PM :)

On Friday we got together with our friends to go ice skating at Discovery Green in downtown Houston. I don't think I have skated since I was a teenager, so I enjoyed doing something different yet slightly familiar. Luckily no one broke any bones!

And Saturday was my last official holiday party - bowling with my work peeps. I am lucky I work with good people.

These last few pages were simple but photo heavy. My book is becoming so fat so I am keeping embellishments to a minimum.

I have discovered why my closet seems to be fuller than normal these days. 1. My winter clothes (sweaters, cords, etc) take up much more room that shorts and tees. 2. I don't put away many of my summer tops because, like this one here, they make for great layering. 3. The weather here in Houston is so unpredictable that you never know when you may be wearing shorts in December! I am keeping my fingers crossed it won't come to this in 2011.

I have been dying to buy some brightly colored skinny jeans this season but have been holding off because a) I don't want to fork out a lot of dough, b) I haven't tried that many different styles on and c) my closet is already bursting at the seams. So I thought I would create the illusion of bright pants with these capris. They will do for now, they are just not quite as fitted as I would like.

Reds and pinks photograph so brightly that you can't tell that the shirt is actually red and the pants are pink. I never would have thought to wear these together a couple years ago, but I think it works.

We practiced yoga with our friends E&R on Sunday at their house. It was wonderful to practice with them and also spend some time with them. R was my savior in India and she is returning at the end of December. I am happy for her to be going back but I am sad that she will be gone fore 3 months and even sadder that I won't be joining her this year. India seems like almost a dream to me now...

I have enjoyed remixing my neutrals this week, but I really have been dying to wear some color, namely pink, of course. This velveteen blazer was an impulse purchase from the Armani Exchange store when we were in Las Vegas some years back and I am so glad I bought it.

This skirt came to me all the way from the UK! Jane, one of the dearest bloggers I "know" and one of the original people who started supporting and following my ridiculous blog, was giving it away and I won! The generosity of this community never ceases to amaze me.

Real-time scrapbooking is definitely proving to be a challenge for me. I am currently 3 days behind which is not so bad. I guess the goal is not to fall so back that I start feeling overwhelmed!

Saturday was a working day so not much exciting going on. We did open a bottle of "Enron" wine to toast the hubs' lay-off and subsequent re-hire from there 10 years ago.

The weather finally changed on Sunday. It dropped 20 degrees in less than an hour, when the rain began. It is currently 32degrees and I am currently rethinking what I am going to wear today!

I have always wondered why you can spell gray/grey 2 different ways and if one is more correct than the other. I have not really cared enough to look it up so if anyone has a quick explanation, I'd appreciate it!

Fridays are sometimes the end of a work week, but always the end of a practice week. Erik has been teaching us on Friday evenings for as long as I have been practicing ashtanga and I really look forward to his class.

One of my favorite parts of practice is the chanting at the beginning and the end. I have translated the Sanskrit into English for my page here. And just in case you didn't know, Shanti means peace. I love the idea of sending peace out into the world after a good practice.

Besides decorating the tree and celebrating the holiday season, I have also been obsessed with finding different photo apps.

There are so many out there with different capabilities that picking my favorite one has been difficult.

We woke up earlier than usual today and actually got a lot done. Two cups of coffee in the morning definitely help productivity.

I am hoping this to be a good month for yoga. I am making some progress on things I have been working on and don't want to jinx anything until I know for sure I can do them.

The weather changed from 70s to 50s today so it is actually beginning to feel a bit like Christmas.

My favorite go-to outfits for work lately have been pencil skirts and tops with and without cardis, depending on the weather.

This particular outfit worked better in my mind, however, than in real life. The blouse is 3/4 sleeved and a little poufy and the cardi sleeves are tight so I felt a little rumpled here. And by the way, you will probably be seeing A LOT of my boots coming up, as I am going to take advantage of the cooler weather while I can and wear them as much as possible.

This $15 skirt has been serving me well over the past couple years. When it gets too old I will probably invest in a better quality one that is a bit longer without the slit in the front, but I can live with it for now.

I can hardly believe only 31 days remain of this year. I would say I have had quite an interesting introduction into my next decade of life. I want to remember to savor these last days and not get to caught up in the stress of it all.

These boots were in my to-donate bag in my car when I decided that they would be a perfect match for this outfit. The mid-calf height is a bit weird; I think when I bought them I figured I would just wear them with jeans. These days I prefer to wear skirts, but I think they work with the dark tights.

My favorite part about shopping at Ann Taylor and Loft is finding gems like this skirt in their super+50% off sale time. I actually think that's my favorite part about shopping in general - finding great things at a low price :). I really should learn to be a better thrifter!

A movie filled weekend

This past weekend the old Angelika movie theater downtown reopened as a Sundance Cinema. We (including all of my friends) are especially happy about this because the theater is closer, doesn't get the throngs of masses and shows many independent as well as mainstream movies. Our first viewing there was My Week with Marilyn, which was a simply charming movie and Michelle Williams definitely deserves an Oscar nod for her performance.

On the flip side, I saw Breaking Dawn last night, which was melodramatic and completely cheesy. I had a good laugh and was entertained, I will give it that.

The other movies we watched over the weekend were The Descendants (Clooney was great; another good one), Midnight Cowboy (we like to watch old Oscar winners and this one was definitely interesting; can't believe it was rated X when it first opened!), and Soul Plane (this would have been much better with some chemical enhancement, but it was worth the $0.53 rental!). You know you are getting old when your primary form of entertainment is the movies! In our defense, the end of the year is usually about the time most of the movies worth seeing are released; we always try to catch the movies and actors up for Oscars before the awards the next year.

This photo makes me smile because I am laughing at something the hubs has said. Posing with the vintage Corvette was my idea but I am not quite the pin up girl.

I bought this skirt last month with the gift card I won from Lisa and finally wore it to Thanksgiving brunch. I love its color, length, flowyness - just a perfect skirt!

I have found that after receiving an iPhone, I am less inclined to take photos with either my point-and-shoot or my SLR. I love that I have different editing capabilities with different apps, and I can instantly upload them to Flickr, Facebook, or wherever I want.This means less time I have to spend on our desktop. This also means I am a bit more lazy with my photo-of-the-day. I wasn't too inspired this week to take great photos.

What amuses me most about all this technology is that my favorite editing tools tend to be the ones that make the photos look old. So we use new tech to get old tech effects. Gotta love the irony of it all.

My goal this December is to focus more on creating and less on acquiring.

For the past 3 Decembers I have been participating in shimelle's Journal Your Christmas. I created 2 December mini albums and one year I just did daily posts on the old blog. This time around I decided to take things a bit further and create and actual album a la Ali Edwards. I bought a Studio Calico kit and added things from my stash.

I typically scrapbook like I go through life, organically and without much planning. I did, however, actually pre-make my pages for my December album and am excited to actually scrapbook daily next month. The album is already really fat and I haven't even added any photos yet!

One good thing about working today is that it keeps me from being tempted to go shopping. I actually really hate physically shopping the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of the crowds. I am going to attempt all my holiday shopping online this year.

The hubs and I celebrated a very non-traditional day last night with our friend GJ. This was our first Turkey day as vegetarians and I was still as stuffed as usual.

The case of the incredibly shrinking calves

I bought a new pair of boots over the weekend and am actually wearing them immediately. I usually hoard my clothes, like the shirt I am wearing that was bought in July and haven't worn until now. The cognac color is a great addition to my boot collection, which I have been slowly adding to over the past few years.

There was a time a few years ago that I would have to try on a zillion pairs before any fit, which is how I bought my first pair of tall boots. These days almost every pair of tall boots I try on actually fit over my self-proclaimed giant calves. The hubs theorizes that my calves may have shrunk since I stopped running and started practicing yoga exclusively. I was never really that fast a runner, but I'll buy that theory.

Happy early Thanksgiving! This one will be our first one as vegetarians; we decided to forgo cooking and eat out this year. I am just looking forward the day off.

This is my first outfit photo taken with my iPhone, and, I must say, I am quite pleased with its quality. Of course it doesn't have the luscious bokeh of an SLR, but I rarely bust mine out for daily photos these days anyways. Taking a selfie with the iPhone is still a bit problematic though. I have a camera app that has a self timer; now I just need a mini tripod. Hmmmm, that may be going on my Christmas wish list!

This summery tank is slowly transitioning into a great layering piece. Of course with global warming and all, I don't expect much of a winter here in H-town, so layers may not be necessary anyway.

I wanted to copy this outfit on Beck as soon as I saw it because I knew I had a very similar dress. Of course she has got a much cooler vibe, especially with her Docs, but that's what I love about getting inspiration from other bloggers: taking their look and making it into something that works for me. I had every intention of wearing these heels yesterday until my feet got too tired, but when I started walking into work, my heels kept slipping out. I knew this would annoy me all day, so I immediately changed into my flats and bought some insoles for the pumps for their next wearing. Heels, however, photograph so much better than flats, in my opinion, that I had to keep these photos.

I imagine wearing this dress long after I have replaced the rest of my wardrobe. As long as I keep up with yoga I figure my arms will be in good enough shape to wear it for at least another 30 years!

Can you believe Thanksgiving, and then Christmas, are just around the corner? Like every year, they just suddenly appear and I feel way behind on present-buying. In my line of work, the holidays are a busy time and I will be actually working on the weekend after Turkey day, which is good to avoid the Black Friday temptations. I need more clothes like I need a hole in my head.

I love this skirt, but its shorter length keeps me from pairing it with heels during the warmer months, which, apparently includes November in Houston.

This week I decided to take pictures of all pink things in my life.

My newest piece of technology has a pink cover, of course. I'm not sure how I lived without this before!

I have started using my older point-and-shoot for outfit photos these days. Is it bad that I actually have not one, but two pink cameras?

The hubs bought me a pink cover for my laptop.

I still use my old school iPod at the gym. Don't want to get my shiny new toy dirty, but when this one wears out I will probably just use the iPhone. Yes, Apple receives a lot of my $$.

As far as low tech, I love my pink coffee mug my friend brought me back from Paris.

So the flames are not technically pink, but I wanted to document our nice night in on Saturday.

I couldn't resist buying this pink blush from Target the other day. Love the hearts.

Today's date would seem like an auspicious day to me, but it turned out to be a normal, crazy Friday. I thought I would document it with 11 Instagram photos.

We always start our day with a nice big cup o' Joe.

One reason I like to wake up early even when I am not practicing yoga is to catch up on blogs and Facebook.

The highway was surprisingly busy for early Friday evening. That white dot on the left side is the moon - so huge still tonight!

I love the old-timey feeling of these photos. Today was definitely a typical day in the life of eek! Taking photos at work is a bit weird - I spend so much time there yet rarely document those moments.

Happy Veteran's Day. My thoughts, prayers and thanks go to all the men and women putting themselves in harm's way to protect us.

Yesterday was definitely a full moon day at work. We were insanely busy all day but somehow felt like hardly anything productive got accomplished. I'm thinking this just must be one of those weeks! I will be working all weekend so I hope things calm down a bit. One thing I was grateful for: wearing boots!

This skirt is a definite departure from the usual silhouettes I choose, but I like how comfortable it is, even though it wrinkles if you so much look at it.

As much as I like skinny pants, nothing in the world can make a girl feel leaner than a good pair of long, slightly boot cut pants, especially if she has muscular thighs, like me. Gap still makes great fitting pants, even if everything else they has is a bit blah. I wish they would take a cue from J.Crew and make some brighter clothes!

And speaking of skinny pants (well, jeans in this case), I made the mistake of going into Anthro yesterday and tried on a pair of AG skinnies and JBrand skinnies and loved both.

Do I really need a pair of lilac AND pink jeans? Probably not. Do I want them? Of course. Decisions decisions!

Being outside in October/November in Houston is much more bearable as the weather has definitely cooled down. The humidity has returned but I think another cold front in coming through tonight.

This little dress have served me well over the past few years. Although it is showing some signs of wear, it only gets more comfortable after every wash.

I have had jury duty 3 times in the last 2 years, but each one has been with a different court. And my number has never been called.

Practice practice practice

Over the past few months I have had a few minor injuries that have plagued the progress of my yoga practice: hurt back after finally coming up from backbends and tweaked shoulder after binding with my legs behind my shoulders. Being hurt can be discouraging and frustrating because you feel like you are making progress and getting "it" and then "it" (whatever that may be) goes away.

My goal now has been to let go of my ego and do what I can. Even though sometimes the asanas (poses) seem to be the end goal (i.e. "which pose are you on?"), ashtanga and yoga in general are not about the poses, they are about the practice and what you do and feel on the mat.

My teacher in Houston, who can be moody sometimes, surprised me the other day when he told me at the end of one of my practices, Look how you are back to where you started even though you were injured a few months ago. If you had given up and stopped practicing, you would have had to go all the way back to the beginning.

So the moral of the story: keep up your practice and do what you can. Slowly but surely all will still be coming.

A cold front came though town the night before and boots weather has finally arrived in H-town. Of course it will only last for another day or so before the heat and humidity return but I'll take it!

My outfit was completely inspired by this one from Lisa of respect the shoes. She has got such effortless style and and enviable wardrobe. My favorite thing about reading style blogs from real ladies is being able to draw inspiration from them. So thanks again Lisa!

On a completely random and unrelated note, last night as I was eating a yummy dinner prepared by the hubs, I felt something hard in my food. When I looked at it, I asked him if he lost a tooth making dinner. He was like, um no crazy lady, why do you ask? What came out of my mouth looked like part a tooth. And in fact it was...but not his, mine! It was either part of or the whole crown of one of my molars. I am a bit freaked out since my dentist is not open on Fridays. It doesn't hurt but is EXTREMELY sensitive to temperature. I guess I will be drinking my coffee out of a straw until it gets fixed.

Did I already mention how happy I am that we are finally getting some cooler weather down here in Houston? I bought this dress on super sale in the spring but have only worn it once since it is way too hot to wear in the humidity. Also, I think it looks better with tights and boots because of its length. I almost forget I had this dress in my wardrobe because I lent it to my sister :)

My newest backdrop for my photos is my giant closet door. We have enough light in our bedroom that at least I don't have to use a flash here. I am hoping to get it together next week to take more remix photos in natural light!

The temperatures are finally cooling down so that I can enjoy more of my Missoni haul. I may have bought a few things to many, but they are fun pieces I will be able to enjoy for a bit. I am impressed that the sweaters/tunics (they are way to short to be considered dresses, in my opinion) are lined so wearing tights or leggings underneath them is not an issue.

I was happy with the outcome of Project Runway's winner this season (as was the hubs, for different reasons!). I am hoping she puts out some cool dresses on Piperlime!

This week has flown by, I feel like I have been super busy (especially at work) yet have really gotten nothing accomplished at all! Going on vacation always does that to me; I am procrastinator by nature and when I get off my normal schedule I have a hard time getting remotivated. So glad I took tomorrow off so I can have a "normal" weekend.

P.S. A good thing that has resulted from my taking daily photos of my outfits is that I am more aware of my wardrobe and things I wear on a daily basis. So I opted out of buying ruffled mini-skirts and the like that my eye is drawn to and bought more wearable things like this pencil skirt. I love Uniqlo, especially their prices!
