weekend casual | times 3

06.01.13
Saturday: cardio/zoo with the boys/casual dinner with the hubs
In an effort to better assess what I really wear in my closet, I have decided to track all outfits (as best as I can) this month. This also includes workout looks as well as lounging/hanging out looks. Like do I really need 10 pairs of shorts? My1-in-2-out closet philosophy has lost momentum and I know I tend to wear the same things over again.

06.02.13
Sunday: yoga/hanging out at home/shopping and lunch with my sister
My goal is not to necessarily purge everything just yet, but to simplify. I love pretty things and I love buying pretty things, but sometimes I think that $$ would be better spent toward a trip or more savings or to buy something for someone else. We'll see how it goes!

Comfort dressing

01.24.12
top: Ann Taylor, remix'd
cardi: Target
pants: Gap, remix'd
shoes: Geox, remix'd
earrings: gift'd&remix'd

This week has been that time of the month when I just want to be comfortable. It's also been a week where I have been bored with my clothes (again) so I wore a cardigan that I bought months ago but have yet to actually put on. See, hoarding has its benefits because I am wearing something new but haven't actually spent more money.

black cropped chinos 06
These pants are definitely my go-to when I want something easy yet put together. I wish Gap would make them in all colors of the rainbow!

A little Missoni goes a long way

09.24.11
top: NY&Co, remix'd
skirt: Theory, via consignment
shoes: Missoni for Target
earrings: Collingnon Designs, remix'd
necklace: Tiffany's, gift'd

For all my talk (obsessing?!?) over the Missoni for Target line, I thought wearing something would be better sooner than later. I actually bought these online and they are surprisingly comfortable for 3+ inch heels. The fact that they are not stilettos probably helps.

09.24.11
I am actually the type of person who waits a few weeks before I wear something I buy. I am not sure why. I am guilty of still having a few things in my closet that I bought this summer and have yet to wear. Reason #325 not to do any more shopping.

09.24.11
This skirt is the second item I bought during my recent trip to the consignment shop. I have been wanting a pleated midi skirt and this fits the bill perfectly. It is a bit big in the waist and fits a bit lower than I would like, but nothing that a skinny belt can't fix (so now I need a good skinny belt!). And something about full skirts and feeling pretty just makes me want to twirl.

Blue Valentine

01.16.11
tank: Gap, remix'd
shirt: Old Navy
cardi: Gap
jeans: Gap, remix'd
booties: Old Navy, remix'd
earrings: James Avery, remix'd

For today's rainy day, we watched an appropriate movie: Blue Valentine. I have mixed feeling about this flick. I heard great things about it, and I thought the acting was pretty good, but the content was very depressing. The movie was also very character-driven, rather than plot-driven. Needless to say, the hubs gave it a thumbs down.

This gingham shirt was one of my purchases from Monday. I have been obsessed with acquiring one of my own, especially seeing kendi and tania remix theirs endlessly, but I didn't want to drop the $$ for one from J. Crew. For about $7 on sale at Old Navy, I bought 2! I bought this cardi on supersale this last March, but it got too warm for me to wear it. I like having new clothes to wear without spending any more money :)

Gap gray jeans 02
And although I was complaining about how I haven't been inspired by the Gap lately (although today's outfit wouldn't demonstrate that), I can honestly say I love the fit of their different types of jeans. I'm sure these were purchased on supersale too.

Second time around

01-0506-1011-1516-2021-2526-30
Whew! As I previously mentioned, the crazy weather made picking good items a bit more difficult this time around.

Some stats for the challenge:
Item worn the most: my tall gray boots (by a landslide - worn with 1/3 of my outfits!). Clothes-wise, my skinny jeans and striped shirt were each worn 6 times.

Items worn the least: gray ruffle tee and pink capris only worn once.

Favorite look: #6, comfy yet stylish and colorful

Least favorite look: #19, should have added some more color or something.

What I learned this time around:Long sleeved shirts are better for layering than ruffled tops. Stripes are good. I wear pink pants less than I thnk. I wear dresses and skirts less than I would like too.

What next:I am really excited to wear something fun for my holiday party tonight. I will have the hubs take a photo :)

I did cheat and buy something almost 3 weeks ago as well as today. But otherwise I think I should be good to go until after-Christmas sales!

I am excited to actually participate with everyone this time around. I kind of threw my items together and am hoping for the best. Keeping it simple

10.30.10
top: Anthro
jacket: Armani Exchange, remix'd
pants: J. Crew, remix'd
socks: J. Crew, remix'd
shoes: Marc Jacobs, remix'd
necklace: Me&Ro, gift'd&remix'd

I have been drinking a bit too much wine and not working out enough this week. I attribute this to the hubs getting a new job. And the cooler weather: snuggling is much better than running in cold weather :)

Again, today I was not much in the mood for getting dressed for work. Hopefully this will be my last Saturday to work for at least a little bit. I bought this top back in May with my birthday discount, but haven't worn it until today. I think it's time to bring out the rest of my fall clothes!

I hope your Saturday is more fun than mine!

pink challenge
P.S. I decided to end the month on a pink note.

About time

10.28.10
top: Loft
cardi: Loft, remix'd
skirt: J. Crew, remix'd
boots: Nine West, remix'd
necklace: gift'd&remix'd
belt: Gap, remix'd

A cool front came through last night and blew away most of the humidity, thank goodness. Supposedly the temperature will drop even more later tonight. Let's keep our fingers crossed! I'm just happy I can actually wear some boots :)

10.28.10
I have been experimenting with different places to take my remix photos. I like the bright blue background of our house, but that location is right next to the neighbors house and I hate when I get busted for taking a photo. I'm sure they think I'm a little cra-cra.

I bought this top last year but haven't worn it until today. I guess that's the risk you run when buying things on sale at the end of the season. At least it's like having new clothes the next year. I'm also liking the colors today. Unfortunately they are more pumpkin than pink!

A glorious day

When I opened the front door this morning I was greeted with something new: cool, dry air! I smiled and thought it would be a good, no, GLORIOUS, day. Monday morning, no work, a day full of possibilities.

09.27.10
top: Uniqlo
pants: Express, remix'd
shoes: Enzo, remix'd
shades: Dsquared, remix'd
earrings: gift'd&remix'd
cuff: gift'd&remix'd

I even took out the SLR to take my remix photos. I think only 10 out of 50+ photos were in focus (those damn large apertures, but I love the shallow depth of focus.). Definitely don't have time to do this on a working day, but when I don't feel like I am going to melt in my clothes a little extra time is ok.

This is another fun tee I bought during our trip to NYC. I really wish we had a Uniqlo here. Happy Monday to you!

Not feeling it today

09.24.10
top: NY&Co, remix'd
pants: Loft, remix'd
shoes: Geox, remix'd
necklace: Loft

This morning was one of those when I wish I still wore scrubs. This outfit, however, will do instead (and is still more fun!). I bought this necklace on supersale at Loft over 1 year ago and this is the first time I've worn it. Which is why I really don't need to shop!

gray cuffed pants 01
These pants are years old, but they are so comfy!

Weekend casual

09.19.10
Sunday
dress: Converse One Star for Target
shoes: B. Makowsky, remix'd
shades: Tom Ford, remix'd

I haven't decided if I really like this dress or not. I bought this one as well as a pink one on super sale (less than $9 each) and haven't worn them as much as I thought I would. What do you think?

09.20.10
Monday
all items remix'd
dress: Old Navy
shoes: B. Makowsky
shades: Tom Ford
earrings: gift'd
necklace: Me&Ro, gift'd
scarf: Old Navy

I am trying to get the most out of these last days of summer. The weather has been teasing us a bit with coolness here and there, but I am not quite ready to unpack my fall/winter clothes.

Costume changes

I technically wore 4 outfits on Saturday, but thought I would spare you of me in a running bra and shorts.

09.18.10 morning
My yoga outfit
top+bottom: Lululemon, of course
sandals: J. Crew, remix'd

Have I told you how obsessed I am with Lulu. I used to love Nike workout gear, but I have become a Lulu snob. She is tres $$$ but so worth it - comfy, stretchy, long-lasting, and, of course, cute!

09.18.10 afternoon
Hanging out for the day
top: Uniqlo
shorts: Loft, remix'd
sandals: Life Stride, remix'd
shades: Tom Ford, remix'd

I bought this tee over the summer and am just now wearing it. Good thing the gray will go nicely into the fall!

09.18.10 evening
What I wore to dinner
jeans: Old Navy, remix'd
necklace: F21, remix'd

I thought the tee needed a little something which was added by this fun necklace. And for the record, yes, I ate the entire dosai!

Just for fun

My work outfit today was so serious I changed immediately when I got home to my natural state: pink!

09.16.10
top: Gap
skirt: M+O, remix'd
shoes: Enzo, remix'd
earrings: gift'd&remix'd
necklace: Loft, remix'd

I kind of liked all 3 photos I snapped so thought I would share them.

09.16.10
This shirt was purchased months ago but had yet to make an appearance on the old bloggy blog.

09.16.10
I love this skirt but it is at least one size too big. To solve the waist issues I took inspiration from fellow wanna-be fashionistas and belted it since I don't have the talent to alter anything and I don't think it would be worth the $$ to have it tailored. I like the paperbag effect.

I am off for PR night...let's make it work!

a little J. Crew love

09.14.10
top: J. Crew, remix'd
cardi: Loft
skirt: J. Crew, remix'd
shoes: J. Crew, remix'd
earrings: gift'd&remix'd
belt: Charlotte Russe, remix'd

I didn't realize I am almost total Crew today until I typed it all out. As much as I want to love Anthro, I think J. Crew is more my style, with cleaner lines and more "adult" style. I really like wearing pencil skirts to work and the fuller skirts at Anthro just seem to juvenile for me. That said, I still regret not buying the Snakebite belt in gray. I am still searching for the perfect wide gray belt, but this one will have to do for now.

More spring than fall

09.11.10
top: J. Crew, remix'd
skirt: J. Crew outlet
shoes: Aldo, remix'd
earrings: gift'd&remix'd
belt: Gap, remix'd

I realize this outfit is more of a spring than fall look; however, it feels more like spring/summer than fall here, so I think it's ok. Another working weekend for me...boo!

P.S. Although I like to keep the content of my blog fairly light and inane, the significance of today is not lost on me. Peace please.

Notice anything different?

09.08.10
top: J. Crew outlet
pants: Express, remix'd
shoes: Geox, remix'd

This top was purchase back in August when we were in Maine, but this is the first time it's been worn. But I'm not talking about the top :)

Allergies still kicking my butt and the humidity is even worse!

Happy September

09.01.10dress: H&M
shoes: Charles David, remix'd
earrings: gift'd&remix'd

This is one of my NYC purchases. I thought it was pretty cool and conservative for H&M and I liked the military-inspired vibe. I thought I would add a touch on animal print for some interest :)

I am glad this is a short week. Just 3 days to go!

Monday, August 30, 2010

Now what?

Three posts in one day? Obviously I have some time on my hands and I am making up for my missed time yesterday!

1-5 recap6-10 recap11-15 recap16-2021-2526-30I love seeing all my looks together. I know I get inspired when I see other people where the same items different ways, so I like being able to inspire myself!

Some stats for the challenge:
Items worn the most: a 3 way tie between 3 different pairs of shoes: gray wedges, flips flops and ballet flats (each worn 6 times)

Items worn the least: a 2 way tie betrwwn brown platform wedges and white chinos (only worn once!)

Favorite Look: 19, because I love color

Least favorite look: 2, because it was a bit dull

What I learned: I really should have chosen some more interesting casual tops than the ribbed tanks, because they got real boring real quick. Accessories can definitely make a look. A girl can never have enough shoes!

What I am taking away: Less really is more because having a limited wardrobe to choose from made getting dressed much easier. Except for shoes: Shoes are like accessories than really can change an outfit. I have more clothes than I can possibly wear so being creative can stretch my wardrobe. I don't have to shop all the time.

What next: I am looking forward to "shopping my closet" in September. I bought a number of things from our last 2 trips that I haven't yet pulled out. So I will have a lot of new clothes to wear without even spending more money!

I have a feeling some of the items in my 30 will still be in strong rotation because they are great for work. And I am okay with that.

I wish I had the guts to join The Great American Apparel Diet but I know myself well enough that I don't have that kind of will power. So instead I am going to put myself on a monthly budget and make sure I buy only what I love and what I can incorporate into my existing wardrobe. If I want something that is outside the monthly budget, then I will have to wait and save more.

I am also going to attempt to limit which fashion/style blogs I visit. My need for new things stems from wanting what I see other people buying. I keep reminding myself there will always be new pretty things that I will want and I will never be able to have it all so just chill and enjoy what I have. I think that should work.
