The two pairs of boots purchased from Anthro at the end of last year have been my best buys so far this season. Since I have been avoiding wearing heels to work, they have been my go-to footwear. Fortunately I am not in a formal business setting, so this works out well.

Three things I am grateful for today:
1. This is my last working Saturday for 2 months.
2. Coffee is good in the morning.


3. Cardis are a girl's best friends (well, behind the hubs and diamonds of course!)

When I am short on time, I use my point-and-shoot camera to take some quick outfits photos. My favorite pose is usually when I am looking to the left. I guess I favor that side.

The main components of today's look was acquired within the last 3 weeks. I couldn't resist all the extra 40% off sales!


Today was one of those mornings when none of my remix photos were to my liking; this was actually my favorite one!


I am curious to see how these new pumps last throughout the day.

I think I may bring a pair of back-up flats to work just in case.


The new shoes were bought to replace these from the same store, only 5 years older.
I think 5 years is a good time to replace shoes, no?


Like many bloggers, I am bringing a little spring into my winter wardrobe. My favorite part about living in Houston? Even the winter is fairly sunny and the temperatures don't get below 30-40 degrees (usually). It's cold enough to wear layers but not so cold you can't go outside.

I have been enjoying the day off with a whole lotta nothing. It's back to the grind tomorrow!

Two weeks!

In 2 weeks I will be boarding a plane to fly to Frankfurt, Germany and then to Bengaluru, India. From Bengaluru, I will take an approximately 3 hour cab ride to Mysore, India.


I wish I was going to learn under this man; unfortunately he passed away a few years ago, so I will be studying with his grandson.


Although Mysore is a relatively small city for India, it still has plenty of sights to see and things to do outside of yoga. I'm getting excited!

Mid-weekend

Because I worked all the way in Austin yesterday, I have today and tomorrow off! Nothing beats having a weekend in the middle of the week :)

I bought this tunic from Uniqlo this summer but hadn't really figured out a good way to wear it. It has pockets (yay!) but they hit right at the widest part of my hips (boo!) so the proportions are off a little bit. I experimented with belting and layering it today and am satistifed with the results.


These skinny jeans are perfect for wearing under boots and can be dressed up or down!

Today is my last work-out-of-town day. I'm ready to get back into my regular routine for the next few weeks.

Week in photos

Last week I was less inspired for my daily photos...living out of a suitcase will do that to a girl.


Last Monday was the last time I hung out with the peanut and my sis. I miss them!


On Tuesday I went to dinner with my dear friend V, who moved to Austin last year. We split the Red Velvet cake for dessert :)


On Wednesday I practiced yoga with an instructor I met through my instructors in H-town.


On Thursday I had dinner with V, A and J. You can't tell from this photo, but poor J had just threw out his back and he was in a lot of pain all through the meal. Getting old sucks.


On Friday I came home to the hubs and these lovely tulips, my favorite flower!


On Saturday we enjoyed a French Wine dinner at Club Rue with our friends. I love how they humor me with goofy pics.


On Sunday I forgot to take a pic during the day so resorted to a random selfie of me at the hotel :)

I am back in Austin tonight. Got one more day of work here tomorrow and back home tomorrow night. The drive to Austin wasn't so bad; it's always driving home that seems to take forever. Probably because I'm just ready to get home!

Being away from the hubs this week made me realize that the hardest part about traveling to India for almost 2 months will be being away from the hubs! Skype will make things easier, but still. In the grand scheme of things, 7 weeks really isn't all that long (that's what I keep telling myself).

I went a little crazy past week as far as shopping goes. This skirt was part of my Old Navy gingham shirt haul and I just realized I have one in the almost identical color. But this one had pockets! And was only $7! I also stopped by Old Navy by my work in Austin. They, too, were having an extra 40% off clearance. Their clearance section was by far the largest and most organized I have ever seen. The 9 items I bought added up to about $40, but with the random gift cards I found in my wallet, I didn't spend a dime.


I bought this sweater coat at Old Navy about a year and a half ago, again for 40% off clearance. It's gotten some pretty good use for $6.

Yes, I pretty much wore this exact same outfit on Wednesday, just swapped out the top and a clean pair of tights. Please excuse the tired face and cowlicked hair - I am tired of living out of my suitcase this week and ready to get back home to the hubs!

Thanks for your kind words on the mess that was my look yesterday. I am usually a pretty good judge at what clothing flatters me but clearly traveling has impaired my judgement. I'm hoping to get finished a bit early and on the road again this evening. Here's to a good Friday and even better weekend!

This outfit works better in theory than in practice. I'm not sure why but these pants are making my legs look shorter and stumpier than normal. I'm wondering if it's time to find a more flattering pair of gray dress pants.


This cardi has been a workhorse in my wardrobe for the past couple years. I love that it can be dressed up or down. It was a staple in my fall 30-for-30 this year.

I've decided to sit out Kendi's Winter 30-for-30 this time around even though it may be helpful when packing for India. I'm just thinking my outfits are going to be more about comfort than style over there!

For ease of packing, pretty much everything I am wearing this week is a version of this: top, cardi, bottom and shoes. I didn't bring any different jewelery or accessories either; just too lazy!


Since I started reading and following style blogs of normal but stylish chicas, I have been addicted to cardigans. Good thing they are versatile!

Updating my progress

Last week I got a couple vaccinations in order to prepare for my trip. Nothing is technically required when visiting India, but I updated my typhoid and started the HepA&B series. I received a tetanus shot a couple years ago when I split my shin open in Ibiza, but that's old news.

As I prepare for my practice in Mysore, I am doing as much yoga as possible. Starting back up at work has made it a bit difficult to practice 6 days a week but I am usually at least getting in 5. I will occasionally do some cardio as well, but I've stopped running altogether. My last big race was the Houston Half-Marathon last year and since then the longest I have run is about 5 miles. Since running tightens the muscles, I prefer to lay off so I can get the most out of my yoga practice.

Please excuse the tired face. I woke up at 4 AM to drive to Austin by 8 AM this morning. The day was busy but not crazy and I think I have enough energy for yoga tonight.

I have been enjoying this Monday off, after working over the weekend. I am also glad the sun came out this afternoon. Sometimes gloomy weather can contribute to a gloomy mood, without you even realizing it.

Blue Valentine

For today's rainy day, we watched an appropriate movie: Blue Valentine. I have mixed feeling about this flick. I heard great things about it, and I thought the acting was pretty good, but the content was very depressing. The movie was also very character-driven, rather than plot-driven. Needless to say, the hubs gave it a thumbs down.

This gingham shirt was one of my purchases from Monday. I have been obsessed with acquiring one of my own, especially seeing kendi and tania remix theirs endlessly, but I didn't want to drop the $$ for one from J. Crew. For about $7 on sale at Old Navy, I bought 2! I bought this cardi on supersale this last March, but it got too warm for me to wear it. I like having new clothes to wear without spending any more money :)


And although I was complaining about how I haven't been inspired by the Gap lately (although today's outfit wouldn't demonstrate that), I can honestly say I love the fit of their different types of jeans. I'm sure these were purchased on supersale too.
