Yoga stops traffick

2011 03 12 photo
Today I participated in an event called Yoga Stops Traffick, held in front of the gates of Mysore Palace.

For the second year in a row, yoga students in Mysore and around the world, performed up to 108 sun salutations (we only did 27) in order to raise awareness and funds for the Mysore anti-trafficking organization Odanadi Seva Trust.

Many of the young people participating today are survivors of slavery, domestic abuse and forced prostitution.

The purpose of the trust is to help rescue, rehabilitate and reintegrate trafficked women and children. Over the years, Ashtanga Yoga has come to play a vital role in rebuilding their physical and mental strength as well as restoring a sense of peace, confidence and self-worth.

I was honored to take part in such an event. I have been doing a lot of self-discovery this trip and not as much for others, so I am glad to be able to give back, if in just a minor way.

Hopefully we can make a difference.
