Channelling our inner Picassos

Last night we took Mom and our niece L to paint.

We started with a blank canvas...

and ended up with a new masterpiece! A perfect Friday night family date.

Joe is taking mom to the airport as I type and L's spring break ends on Sunday so back to just the two of us after today. I love spending time with our family but am also ready to get back into our normal routine. Today is the last day of March and a quarter of the way through the year. 2012, you are flying by!

iSmile

As I am struggling to re-find my blogging voice, I don't want to lose sight of the little things that make me smile.

DD turned one on the 17th! My babies (not technically mine, but I love them as if) are growing too fast!

project life | week 10

I actually completed these pages 2 weeks ago, but didn't realized they weren't posted yet.

We have been doing some major spring cleaning, for lack of a better word, these past few weeks. And I am tired!

My favorite part of this project so far is the freedom I have allowed myself in creating weekly pages. Each week doesn't "match" and that's ok. The majority of my photos have been from the iPhone. I have been trying to use the dSLR more but nothing beats the convenience of taking, editing and uploading photos from one source.

I printed out 50 photos from the past 2 weeks. Now to decide which ones to use...

Giving up*

I have decided to give up blogging and pursue a career in drawing.

*Seriously addicted to Draw Something. Will be back blogging soon....maybe.

Stay tuned

This weekend has been crazy busy and this week is going to be as well so I decided to take a break. Also doesn't help that our internet connection is down. See you on the flip side!

finally Friday

03.14.12
dress: Banana / shoes: Payless / scarf: India

This week has been insane and the rest of the month will probably be as well. Needless to say, I have been behind commenting on everyone's blogs. Hope you have a great weekend!

Spring has sprung

03.13.12

We are definitely enjoying some warmer temperatures right now and I don't think it's going to get much cooler anymore. Winter was shorter here than normal, that is for sure. And while I am glad for the longer days and coming home to light outside, getting up early this week still has been difficult.

brown lace cardi 01
My sister asked me the other day if lace was "in." Funny thing is having this fashion/style aspect to my blog doesn't make me feel more fashionable; it's more just a creative outlet in the form of clothes. I think  something can be in style when you want it to be!

12 photos on the 12th of the month!

1. The usual start to our day.

2. Home practice since I didn't wake up in a timely fashion to go to class.

3. A humid and dewey morning drive to work.

4. Mid morning snack.

5. Home for lunch with the hubs.

6. The sun peeping out!

7. Mid afternoon snack.

8. Driving home.

9. The hubs working from home.

10. Taking a walk.

11. Our neighborhood.

12. Winding down our day.

Yesterday was definitely a typical day in the E&J household. I expect, however, for our routine to change by next week. Will keep you posted!

More brights please!

top&boots: Anthro / cardi: Express / skirt: Loft / earrings: gift'd / necklace: Collignon Designs, gift'd / belt: Nordstrom Rack

I originally wore a black cardi with this outfit and almost put myself to sleep. Then I remembered I have this lightweight turquoise one that added the perfect (to me) splash of additional color. Starting to get the hang of the color blocking thing!

Springing forward

Having longer days is always something good to look forward to, but losing an hour is not! Suffice it to say that early morning yoga practice is not happening today since my body still thinks it's about 4:45 am right now and not at all ready to contort itself into bendy positions...

Being able to wear bright fun colors this spring is also another thing to look forward to. None of the pieces I am wearing were bought at the same time or even the same year (even though most were from the same store!), but they come together nicely.

I have discovered that short sleeved cardis are a must for layering in warmer weather.

Today is also the 12th of the month. Will you be taking 12 photos along with me?

project life | week 9

Keeping up with this project has been relatively easy so far. The rest of the month looks to be pretty busy so I hope I don't fall too far behind!

week 9 full spread
The full spread from last week.

week 9 with insert
The full spread with an insert, which was a full page protector that I cut in half.

week 9 left side
Left side. In an effort to cut down of physical scrapbooking stuff I acquire, I have been addicted to digital elements I can store on our computer. Lots of free images are available all over the internet, but I have also been purchasing Cathy Z and Ali Edwards elements from designer digitals. The best part about digital stuff is that they will never run out and you can customize them how you want. The worst part is organizing and remembering what you have!

week 9 insert front
Front side of the insert. Joe and I took JJ on our first no-parents outing to the zoo! The three of us had a great time seeing all the animals and riding the carousel.

week 9 insert back
Back side of the insert. I actually brought my dSLR on our trip so got some decent photos.

week 9 right side
Ride side. Funny thing - every week I think nothing really happens, but every week I find little stories to document. I know this is getting repetitive, but I absolutely love this type of story telling.

What little stories do you want to remember from last week?

An added bonus

Last night I flew into Dallas to work at our office today. I met a good friend in Grapevine for dinner.

We like to judge how good a Mexican food restaurant is by their margaritas. These were pretty tasty!

Sometimes it's hard for me to believe I have known this girl since 1998. We've been through a lot together, she was a bridesmaid at our wedding and a friend I can count on.

Photo
So I guess an added benefit for traveling for work (besides hotel, car and airplane points, as well as the opportunity to take silly self portraits) is seeing people I wouldn't normally be able to see. And drinking a good margarita.

Finally Friday

03.07.12
dress: CK / cardi: Target / shoes: Geox / sunnies: Dsquared / belt: Ann Taylor

I am traveling to Dallas this evening to work there on Saturday. Kind of a pain, but one benefit is to have a date with a dear girlfriend while I am there.

green floral cardi 01
This photo has made me realized I need to break out of the matchy-matchy rut with this sweater and pair it with different colors. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hope your weekend is less work-filled than mine!

My shopping process

I thought I would share a bit of what goes on in my little head when I buy new clothes.

IMG_1921
So I went shopping a few weeks ago (or was it over a month ago...time seems to be slipping away so fast this year!) and fell in love with this dress at Banana. Didn't pull the trigger because it was new and not on sale yet.

03.06.12
dress: Loft / cardi: Gap / shoes: Jeffrey Campbell / sunnies: Dsquared

I'm glad I didn't buy it, because shortly thereafter I realized I already had a navy polka dotted shift dress with pockets in my closet. But also realized this is probably why I loved it so.

02.21.12
dress: Banana, new / cardi: Target / shoes: Old Navy / earrings&necklace: Collignon Designs

A few weeks later, however, I did return to Banana and found the same dress in a different pattern, which did come home with me, thanks to a sale, rewards points and gift card. The silhouette is slightly different from the Loft dress and is just so flattering, I couldn't resist. Spring is the season when I have the hardest time not shopping because I love bright spring colors.

purple dot cardi 01
My uniform these days seem to be a cardi thrown over a dress. I have a feeling that sweater days are almost over here in Houston so I better take advantage while I can!
