finally Friday

The weather this week has been more crazy than usual. Hard freeze on Tuesday, 70s today. That's Houston for you!

Having the holidays in the middle of the week has also thrown off our equilibrium. I still feel like I'm on a boat, although it's much better now. Now just working on this hacking cough/allergies that aren't allowing me to get a full night's rest.

And we're still recovering from our NYE, birthday festivities. I am happy to report the hubs and I are doing better. Baby steps, I suppose.

We were having such perfect fall weather last week but now back into the 80s for Thanksgiving. Oh well, I would rather be a bit on the balmy side than shoveling snow.


If you had told me a few years ago I would be wearing a ruffled skirt to work on a regular basis, I would have thought you were crazy, but apparently this works for me :)


And I have finished my Project Life spread for the week but unfortunately haven't been able to photograph it properly. When the sun goes down around 5 pm, many photo opportunities are lost!

Happy October

As we enter the last quarter of the year, I am trying not to be overwhelmed at the amount of stuff we will have going on and stay focused and more organized. Texas has actually received a bit of fall-like weather this past weekend and I am can't wait to start wearing my boots (well, as soon as I figure out where I packed them away!).


I received some happy snail mail over the weekend and will be paying it forward some time soon. In this electronic age, there's something just a tiny bit thrilling about seeing your name on an envelope. My challenge to you is to mail something to someone just for the fun of it!

Hello, August

Summer is definitely in full swing where I live as the temps flirt with triple digits. One thing I truly miss about being in school is summer break and vacation. Luckily we do have a big one planned at the end of the month, so still have something to look forward to.


This skirt has been surprisingly versatile in terms of what colors can be worn with it. I went matchy-matchy this time around, but I also like the contrast of darker colors.

Summer is definitely upon us and the days seems to be getting hotter. Getting dressed, however, is a bit more difficult that it seems. I hate wearing layers because the sweat starts dripping as soon as I walk outside, but office building are kept ice cold. Luckily I do wear a white coat at work, which helps keep me warm inside, while a simple sheath keeps me cool outside.

This week tights were back in the rotation. Winter weather in Houston will always keep you guessing. Today it's rainy and dreary, which is a perfect day to wear scrubs.


I love knit tops that are have a bit of texture. They add a nice layer in cooler months and more visual interest to a simple outfit in warmer months.

This is a working weekend for me so I hope the rain keeps up. Nothing is more depressing than working on a sunny Saturday!

This skirt came to me all the way from the UK! Jane, one of the dearest bloggers I "know" and one of the original people who started supporting and following my ridiculous blog, was giving it away and I won! The generosity of this community never ceases to amaze me.


I was actually afraid I may not be able to wear the skirt because of its thick fabric (would this be considered tweed?), but with the newly cold winter-like weather we have been experiencing this week, it was perfect! I had to include this photo because this is the face of a cold fashion blogger who didn't want to take a photo with her jacket because it didn't match. :)

I may have to rethink what I am wearing today...

Being outside in October/November in Houston is much more bearable as the weather has definitely cooled down. The humidity has returned but I think another cold front in coming through tonight.


This little dress have served me well over the past few years. Although it is showing some signs of wear, it only gets more comfortable after every wash.

Did I already mention how happy I am that we are finally getting some cooler weather down here in Houston? I bought this dress on super sale in the spring but have only worn it once since it is way too hot to wear in the humidity. Also, I think it looks better with tights and boots because of its length. I almost forget I had this dress in my wardrobe because I lent it to my sister :)

My newest backdrop for my photos is my giant closet door. We have enough light in our bedroom that at least I don't have to use a flash here. I am hoping to get it together next week to take more remix photos in natural light!

We actually got some rain yesterday and today the temperature was in the upper 60s when we went to the park. It never fails that when I get so fed up with the weather I bitch about it yet again on the blog and then it actually cools down. I guess I should complain some more.


Today marks the 6 month anniversary of my return from Mysore. Being in India almost feels like a dream to me now. The most magical dream ever, but I almost can't believe I was there. I think it's time to go back...


I bought this top last summer because I wanted a white shirt that works better in Houston heat than one with sleeves. I can't believe this is the first time I've worn it this year. Reason #437 that I really don't need to buy any more clothes!

I am looking forward to a weekend of rest, relaxation, friends, and no work. Let's just make it through the last Friday of September!

While many people are celebrating the change in seasons this month, here in Texas we are just hoping for a bit of cooler weather. Like maybe in the 80s, please?!? I think in the gauge in my car has measured 100 degrees at least briefly every day this week. So my dreams of wearing layers and boots and the like are just dreams and not even close to becoming reality.

Houston has had a scorching summer this year. Labor day weekend brought some cooler temperatures - 90s instead of 100s. So basically we get hot and less hot as our seasons. I predict I won't be wearing boots or layers or anything remotely fall-like until late October. The heat kind of sucks, but I take that over long snow days any time.

I was playing around with my 50-mm 1.8 lens this past week.


The hubs. He's a cutie! I love being out during the "golden hour" before sunset and would take more photos then if it weren't so damn hot!


Baby buddha. Another cutie. He is getting some teeth, which explains the constant drooly mouth.


My mom cooks this Chinese dish with dried mushrooms which translate from Mandarin into "wood ear." I just figured it was another random Asian-lost-in-translation thing, so imagine my surprise to find out that woodear mushrooms actually exist!


Nothing is more yummy that baby toes to me.

The temperature at 8 pm on Saturday night was 105. Seriously. Everytime I step outside I feel like I am baking in an oven.

It's hard to believe that August is already half over. I try not to even wish for cooler weather until mid-September. We have not been getting a break from the heat and humidity at all this season. Our poor lawn is so sad and dry. After the movie on Sunday we got a sprinkling of rain, but it was just a tease. I am envious of all the bloggers up north who seem to be experiencing a taste of temperatures to come. At least us girls in the South still have lots of time to wear all the fun sundresses we bought this summer :)!

This was what I wore in Thursday to some continuing education. I really love these pants but I only wear them to work or work-related functions. I need to challenge myself to wear them in a more casual ensemble this go-round.

I made a weak attempt of incorporating some of my 30-for-30 outfits for our trip, but, in the end, I didn't. A beach vacation deserve fun, beach vacation clothes! Hopefully the clouds will let in some sunshine soon.

Naturally when summer "officially" starts we get rain and cooler temperatures. Only in Texas! At least this gives me an excuse to wear a long-sleeved shirt without seeming like a crazy person!

I am trying to wake up a bit more to practice yoga for 5 days in a row. June has definitely been the most consistent practice month for me since returning from India. Just gotta keep on doing it!

Week in photos (+ an extra outfit)

Summer is not officially here yet, but you would never know from the temperatures here in Texas! It is hot hot hot! This was a week of just normal, everyday life.


JJ was having a moment after coming home from camp on Monday. Dog is his favorite stuffed animal.


On Tuesday I walked from my hotel to Whole Foods to pickup dinner and lunch for the next day. The 15 minutes outside each way felt like a sauna!


I made it home in time on Wednesday to watch my favorite summer show. Cat Deeley is my idol and I want to be her when I grow up. Did you see that fabulous pink dress she was wearing?!?


I absolutely adore Buddha's steel blue eyes. I thought all Asian spawn would have brown eyes but apparently I was wrong.


Buddha turned 3 months old on Friday, but he was sleeping by the time I came over. So his 3 month photo will be coming up next week!


Going to a work-wedding on Saturday was made better by an open bar and photo booth. Joe's ex-co-worker, in the middle here, married off his oldest daughter. Smiles were everywhere.


After running errands today we treated ourselves to a summer favorite: TCBY. Nothing tastes better than cold yogurt on a hot day!

I wore this outfit on Friday evening on our way to Miami, as well as a version of it on our way home this morning (back in Texas today - boo!). I finally got a maxi skirt and I have to say, I am a major fan. Comfy, flattering and stylish...what's not to love.

We have returned to triple-digit temperatures here in H-town. Joe and I made the mistake of running right before lunch. Not the best idea in the world, but at least I sweat any remaining mojito out of my system. Happy Monday to you!

We are starting to get temperatures in the 90s this week. I am so not ready for it (again!). I feel a bit cheated because I didn't have a real winter this year.


And the real reason I feel cheated? I didn't get to wear my tall boots as much as I would have liked!

I guess on the flip side, the weekend I am going to search for some more flats to wear to work. As much as I love them, heels definitely make practicing yoga more difficult so I am limiting their wear.
