I have discovered that when I think "I have nothing to wear" when peering into my overstuffed closet, what I really mean is "I am bored with what I have."

I really had a hard time deciding what to wear this morning. Fridays tend to be busier so I want to be comfortable. I also want to wear flatter shoes because I practice yoga in the evening and really high heels tighten my hamstrings too much. AND I wanted to wear something with pink in it.

All those restrictions made me feel like I had limited choices and that I "needed new pants/shoes/more pink" etc. I finally settled on what I have on now. I feel only ok about it, but I guess not every look has to be a winner. My favorite part about what I am wearing? My new ankle socks :)

Venting is over. Deep breaths now.

Everything I am wearing today, with the exception of my shoes and belt, are from at least 3 years ago. I've had this top from Banana forever, hadn't worn it in years but didn't want to get rid of it, and finally have been wearing it again.

The dress I bought over 10 years ago! I wore it to the first wedding the hubs and I ever attended together back when we first started dating, so I think it's a good luck charm. I wore it to death when I first bought it, then I became bored with it. Again, it was hanging in my closet for a long time before I started wearing it again.

And the necklace I bought at a Billionaire Babes sample sale (before all those sample sales were online) in the fall of 2007. So I am quite happy that I have managed to make at least some wise purchases in my clothes!

Cool!

I know I am complete nerd for wanting to chill out at home by myself instead of meet friends for dinner (Joe is out with the boys) but sometimes a girl just needs quiet time to herself, no? So while I was catching up on my blogroll, I noticed Sal had linked some sites that mentioned her Black-Out Challenge from a few weeks ago. When I clicked on this one, I saw aphoto of me! Silly, but kind of made my day :)

Ruffle-y goodness

Going back to work after 3 days off is made easier with ruffles!

As odd as it may seem, I have actually enjoyed working more these past couple months since "graduating" from scrubs. Since I love clothes and wearing them, I guess I look forward to coming up with new outfits (and of course buying new clothes!). I am also glad that I am finally able to wear my closet full of clothes more than I had in the past.

Right now I am off the Target in the hopes that they are not sold out of my Cynthia Vincent wedges. Keep your fingers crossed!

I *heart* Liberty for Target!

Some of the designer collaborations at Target were misses (JPG, Rodarte (with the exception of the cardigans which I am sad to say I missed), to name a few of the more recent ones), others were cute but I didn't get any stuff or 1 item (Anna Sui, Jonathan Saunders, Paul and Joe) and yet others I completely fell in love with (Patrick Robinson, Libertine).

Liberty of London for Target got a big thumbs up from me.Finding the supercute displays all over the store. And their supercute patterns and designs.I got these 3 tops!I had to resist buying more, but am return to Target today to look for a big sunhat for our upcoming beach vacations (Puerto Vallarta this coming weekend, Lake Travis for Memorial Day (I guess its technically not a beach but I will still need a big hat!) and Cabo in November for my dear friend P's 40th birthday bash!) as well as picking up a couple tops for my sis.The dresses really didn't do anything for me, especially since I have already bought quite a few recently and they aren't as versatile as the tops to me. But this was definitely a winner in my books.

I am looking forward to the Cynthia Vincent collection coming out in April. Hopefully some cute new wedges for the summer to buy!

The story behind the clothes

I think the main difference between guys and girls is that guys shop out of necessity and girls shop because they love it. Take the hubs for example. He goes to the store when he needs an item (like a new pair of dress shoes for the wedding we attended a couple weeks ago), he goes to the store to look for said item (in his case, Kenneth Cole) and he buys said item (with a $50-off coupon - at least I taught him something!).

Now I window shop (mostly online these days - who has time to go just shopping?) - a lot. Too much. But I enjoy it and I usually don't buy anything. But when I do buy it's not out of necessity (do I really need another pair of jeans...or dress...or shoes...or whatever), but because the clothes speak to me. I can probably name why and where I purchased (not necessarily when) every item of clothing I own.


Take today's outfit. It's a mixure of old and new items. The cardi was bought on super sale online at Martin+Osa. The shirt is at least 11-12 years old, from J. Crew. I have had it since before grad school in Houston, which was '98! The skirt I bought from Anthro because I saw other fashion bloggers wearing it and fell in love. The belt is another oldie from when I got my master's so again, from the 90's (and yes, I was a professional student at one time). The tights were purchased last fall at Loft. The pumps are probably 4-5 years old from Ann Taylor. They are super comfortable and more practical than I realized (you can substitue red pumps for black or brown for almost any outfit!).

So there you have it. THe history of the outfit. Hey, this is kind of fun!

Feeling guilty

I have been obsessed with reading and following fashion/style blogs over the last 6 months. What really has inspired me are the ladies who thrift and find amazing pieces. I really wish I could do it, I really do. But my attempts to thrift in H-town have been thoroughly unsuccessful. I've been to resale shops as well as Goodwill and when I go, all I ever see are old Gap/Old Navy crap that I could have donated myself. And they really aren't all that inexpensive. And don't even get me started on gross used shoes!
I just don't have the patience or the time for thrifting. Especially when I can hop over to Target, find 2 darling dresses that are new and under $9 each! So unfortunately I am going to have to find other ways to go green...

It's a wrap

I have never been a big wrapper. I'm not very good at it and besides, isn't wrapping just a waste of paper? My sister, on the other hand, loves wrapping and thinks presentation is half of giving a gift! I'm not sure where she got it from since our parents are definitely on my camp of the wrapping issue!We attended a Christmas party tonight hosted by our friend EJ. We ate lots of yummy food, drank some delicious wine and caught up with our friends. What more could we ask for?Oh yes, and I wore one of my favorite dresses from last year!

I have nothing to wear!

Ha! That is probably the silliest thing I could say. Being out of town and wearing scrubs all day make me miss my clothes (is that weird). And also make me want to shop. So as I was examining my new purchases, I also tried to rearrange my closet, but because it is stuffed to the brim it's hard to get organized.Being alive the better part of 3+ decades has caused me to accumulate much stuff and I really have no business buying any more clothes!

Must.stop.shopping.

I tend to become obsessed with things and that's all I can think about. At the beginning of the year it was scrapping and photos and crafting. I still take tons of photos but sadly I have not scrapped in over 2 months! Aack! I haven't even printed any photos since May! Really need to get back into it!

So what has been taking up my free time? My other obsession, clothes! With wardrobe remix on flickr, I have been reassessing my closet and finding inspiration in clothes!


I just bought this skirt on sale and Anthropologie and love it, especially the ruffles and pockets. I've also decided that it's never to late to be a fashionista!

You know you are obsessed when you snap an outfit photo before you actually wear it because you won't have time later! I changed into my work clothes after taking this snap! Oh well, I just wanted to capture how cute I look :)! Everything I am wearing, except the shoes, are at least 1 year old. This wardrobe remixing thing is definitely motivating me to be more creative with my clothes!

I have been addicted to all things pink lately. Shorts, skirts, tops, shoes, you name it - I probably have it! This is the Leanne Marshall top I purchased from Bluefly. I love it! It is so comfy and can be worn with any color, but I especially love it with these pink bermudas and killer heels.

This is what I wore last night for Marc's birthday. I will post more photos of the night when I am less tired.

I am really enjoying taking photos of my outfits...not because I am that narcassictic, but I like coming up with cool things to wear and I want to remember what was popular. I wish I had these types of photos back in my high school and college days!

Newest obsession

I love wearing scrubs to work for many reasons: it only takes 5 minutes to get dressed, I don't have to worry about picking something to wear to work every day, I am super comfortable at work, etc. etc.

But I also like clothes and wearing pretty things, so on my days off I like to dress up a little. I have been superinspired by wardrobe remix and the people who post their daily outfits. And typically the coolest clothes are the thrifted ones! I prefer to shop for new clothes (on sale of course) but I like to see how normal people are wearing stuff and create looks from that! For instance the same pair of shorts 2 different ways:I know I probably should spend my time on more practical things like cleaning the house or organizing my scrap crap, but how boring is that?

I am off to yoga here in a moment and then maybe some pool time, if the weather cooperates. I love having Mondays off!

Fashionista

So my Bluefly purchases arrived in the mail today. I bought a Leann top and skirt. And while I love the flippy skirt, it was a little big and I don't think I will exchange it for the next size down...just think it may be a bit youngish or tarty, espcially if I wear it will high heels. But the flowy top is gorgeous and youthful as well without being cutsy and is a keeper. It's too dark to take photos now, but I will probably wear it to dinner with the girls tomorrow night and will post then!

For now it's more Tour with Lance and Joe!

and I don't have to work! I am working up the energy to go to the grocery store before my shopping date with Greg this afternoon. So alas, I think yoga will have to suffer a bit, but I am not thinking downdogs are going to feel to good today.

After a long day of work I got dressed up to meet Princess, T-Bone, M, C, JB and Coupon to celebrate Coupon's bday.I have had this dress for almost 10 years, haven't worn it in at least 6 or 7 but still love it. So what is old is new again! (Especially when paired with new fabulous shoes!)Dinner was at Soma, a new sushi place on Washington.Coupon and Princess looked relaxed and tan from their recent trip to Cabo.

After dinner (and 2 bottles of wine for 3 girls and countless bottles of Sake for the boys and M) we hung out by the bar and checked out a new club called Nox.I love that T-bone can be such a goofball. The club had a cool space but, I think at 38 I am over it. We are over it. Except for Coupon! So he and JB stayed while the rest of us went to Club Rue to eat some of his tasty birthday cake!

After cake Princess and I met our boys at EJ's house to catch the rest of Pride weekend. For some reason I wasn't in the photo taking mood so I didn't get any snaps of EJ's fabulous house...next time!

Yesterday I did manage to wake up, see patients for 1 hour, grab some coffee and practice yoga. I also visited Ruby and picked up my scrap crap at Tingaling's place (I think I need to come up with a fancy nickname for their house...any ideas?). Then I met Richie and Marc at 1308 Cantina for some brunch. I had a yummy breakfast taco and only 1 of these:Michael Douglas not the actor, CLJ, and Jason met us there as well. And our pal Greg hooked us up poolside with his friends Scott and Rusty. They have an amazing house in Montrose with a great salt-water pool!This was the only photo I took all day, but pretty much represents what we were doing all day...chillin' by the pool. I REALLY would like a house with a pool - these hot summer days can be unbearable!
Well, I guess I should go be productive now...laters!

newest obsession

A website where you upload your clothes and create outfits with the clothes you already have in your closet. How cool is that! Too bad it would take a million years to take photos of everything...I was thinking about taking pics as I wore the clothes...we'll see how that goes!

Right now I am procrastinating going to work, but I guess it's almost that time...

I'm being lazy this morning and skipping boot camp. I just like having some time to chill before work and going means I have no time to gather my thoughts (what little ones I have!). At least we'll be going to yoga tonight!

I obsess about 2 things - scrapbooking, and handbags. I got this Marc Jacobs blouse on super sale at Neiman's and I want more of his stuff, but they are so $$$!! At Sak's they had a pink bag on sale (60% off) but it was still $300. I guess not bad for a designer bag, but I need another puse like I need a hole in my head!! Still, maybe one day....

He has a new white purse out that Jessica Simpson wears - it's beautiful and only $1295. I'm sure Joe wouldn't mind - we just can't buy any more furniture for the house :) hee hee.

I guess I'll have to wait until we win the lotto...
