a little shop shop

Something about spring makes me want to shop. Maybe because I'm tired of my "winter" (used in quotes because who are we kidding, winter in Houston is balmy compared to most places up north) wardrobe and too lazy to get out my spring clothes (bad, I know).

A lot of it has to do with sales, sales everywhere! I love these style jeans and stalk them at Anthro.

And sometimes it's nice to treat yourself to some pretties. Especially when they are 40% off sale price (love those) and you have a gift card to use.

Seriously though, MUST.CLEAN.CLOSET. sometime in the near future...

One of the many things I love about the hubs is that he takes me to places he knows I'll want to take photos of (and in!). The wall behind us was part of a large mural in midtown. Great spot for engagement or any kind of love photos!

The whole wall was super cool. We love finding cool graffiti art.

I like this skirt but it works better with heels, which I haven't been wearing much lately (although I did yesterday and yoga didn't suffer as much this morning as I thought it would). Still on the fence on whether to keep it...

When I am in a sour mood, I always try to remind myself how lucky I am with any multitude of reasons. I suppose anyone who has extra time and resources to be able to blog at all is a lucky person.

This weekend I feel lucky because I have a hubs who doesn't mind painting with me, and who would rather plan an Oscars party than a Superbowl party :) (I assume the Ravens won, but don't know for sure?).

So the annoying cough I picked up last week (or the week before - time is going by so quickly!) is still lingering and getting on my last nerve. One of my sweet yoga friends gave me some Mucinex last night - so I plan on taking it this morning and crossing my fingers that it works.

I got a flu shot yesterday and coincidentally (?) the cough that started the night before seemed to be getting worse. So I doused myself with Nyquil last night and went to bed early. I like how it is a "so you can sleep" medicine, but waking up is always so hard (I am currently drinking some strong coffee in hopes of shaking off this groggy feeling).


Needless to say, my yoga and workout routine have been less than ideal this week, but sometimes I think it's good to listen to your body and just rest. Here's to a restful weekend.

The hubs braved the cold, windy and wet conditions to run a 7:30 half-marathon pace. We made it out just in time to see him past by and this, unfortunately, was the best shot I took.

One personality trait I possess that is not always evident when you get to know me (mainly because I keep it under wraps) is that I tend to be a bit obsessive about things. When I first discovered the Wardrobe Remix photo group in Flickr, I would look at it all the time, and that's when I first started posting my own outfit photos, shopping quite a bit and reading tons of fashion/style blogs.

This obsession has since quieted down, especially when I realized I was consuming too much (in my mind) and buying clothes because I liked them on other people, not necessarily because I really wanted or even needed them. I've definitely tried to limit my blog list to those people who inspire me not necessarily by the latest thing they have bought but by how they put their outfits together.


Of course this doesn't mean I haven't fixated on something else. Since being the proud owner of an iPhone and discovering Instagram, I love the instant gratification of being able to take, edit and upload a photo all in a few easy steps without having to connect to the computer first. But to be more specific, all things Project Life have been on my mind most of last year and a lot of this year already (blogs, IG feeds, YouTube videos to name a few).

So bear with me as I try to obtain some balance between my few obsessions. What's been on your mind lately?

Last night the hubs and I attended the holiday party held by our apartment peeps.


I will be the first to admit our sole purpose going was to eat holiday food and desserts.

I go through phases where I am very good and don't shop for months at a time.


And when I buy, I try to buy things I love and will wear over and over again.

But the last few weeks has seen a sharp increase in my spending and acquiring - like both the red and pink pair of cropped pants bought on sale. I love their fit, comfort and color so couldn't resist. I may have gotten other packages from Loft and Anthro as well; couldn't resist the call of Cyber Monday. I have made a promise not to spend any more $$ on myself in December (or at least until the after Christmas sales!).


I do like having evidence that I wear the clothes I own :)

Our December has certainly started off with a bang.

One of our dear friends who moved to London about 6 years ago invited us to spend a late Thanksgiving dinner with his family. Besides seeing him of course, the big draw was that he opened up his wine cellar and generously shared his delicious wine. Nothing compares to the Silver Oak!


And yesterday we helped celebrate the birthday of a new dear friend. P&S are the coolest couple and we are glad to have gotten to know them better this year.

And while December is here in spirit, the weather tells you other wise. Both days have had highs in the upper 80s. Global warming, anyone?

And I mistakenly got caught up with watching The Walking Dead and had a difficult time falling asleep last night, so no yoga for me this morning. Oh well, stuff happens.

These 20+ degree weather difference we've been having lately has really been doing a number on my system. I pride myself never getting sick but I've had something twice already this year.

This time around no hacking cough - just lots and lots and lots of congestion and an overall tired/run-down feeling, that seems to be helped by Dayquil/Nyquil.

So I decided to go with a theme for dressing this week. Obviously I have more pink sweaters that one person really should have.

We were having such perfect fall weather last week but now back into the 80s for Thanksgiving. Oh well, I would rather be a bit on the balmy side than shoveling snow.


If you had told me a few years ago I would be wearing a ruffled skirt to work on a regular basis, I would have thought you were crazy, but apparently this works for me :)


And I have finished my Project Life spread for the week but unfortunately haven't been able to photograph it properly. When the sun goes down around 5 pm, many photo opportunities are lost!

This weekend went by in a whirlwind of activity and I could use another weekend to recover! Fortunately the work week will be shorter (unfortunately Friday is a work day for me, but I don't think we'll be super busy). I'm looking forward to spending some QT with the fam :)


We gave one of our friends a GC to the Apple store for his bday and he finally bought his new iPhone 5. I love the panoramic function on its camera - so fun!
