weekend lens | art car, baby!

DSC_6939
Houston host an art car parade annually. This is the first year is a long time I have been able to attend (usually am working).

Saturdays are good for glitter boots, no?...and a top hat
This year, in anticipation of our upcoming Burning Man trip at the end of the summer, we also decided to dress up.

Seeing all the interesting cars was cool, and fortunately yesterday wasn't as warm as it normally is here.

But to be honest, dressing up was actually the funnest part of the day.

What goes around comes around

Last October I got the bad news that I was being laid off from my position of 7+ years. Not the best way to end the year. However, since then, I have traveled to India for 2 months, been to both American coasts, spents oodles of time with my nephews and generally been enjoying the time off, especially since work called me back part time in January. Today I am signing papers to be re-instated as if I never left. Corporate America - gotta love 'em.

I really have enjoyed working shorter weeks but I know in the long run going full-time will be better for me and the hubs, what with insurance, 401K, etc. Sigh. Sometimes it feels like feast or famine!

Anyways, now that the hubs and I are both gainfully employed for the first time in 2 years, I plan on keeping up my frugal shopping ways. I read a good post on how complete shopping bans are not good for someone who enjoys it as much as I do, but with a closet bursting at the seams, do I really need another pair of shoes (Hmmmm...that is a difficult question!)?

What we wore

This photo is from the Christmas party we attended last week. Our friend went all out and had a red carpet with a fabulous backdrop for everyone to take photos in front of!

on me:
sweater: Gap
dress: Gap, remix'd
shoes: Gucci, remix'd
earrings: Collingnon Designs, remix'd
necklace: vintage, gift'd
tights: Loft, remix'd

on him:
shirt: Ben Sherman
jacket: Neiman's
jeans: Earnest Sewn
shoes: Kenneth Cole

I bought this sweater on the last day of the 30-for-30 challenge. Gap was having a buy-one-get-one-for-60%-off sale, so I couldn't resist.

The necklace was given to me over Thanksgiving by my dear friend B's mom. It's an old Victorian necklace that she bought at an antique store about 20 years ago. She gave me a matching bracelet as well. Next time I will be sure to take some close up photos...it's absolutely gorgeous!

Prom night!

One of my yogi buddies hosted an underwater-themed prom party last night. The dress was as outrageous as you wanted to be. So naturally Joe and I channeled our inner-80s. Mom actually brought down some old dresses of mine from home, and my first formal dress, that I wore to Homecoming in 1987 still fit! I was channeling my inner 80s Madonna with the big bow and lace.
