project life 2014 | week 6

{feb 2-8}
full spread, no insert
My goal for our February Project Life was to use all black and white photos but that didn't quite work out here. Some images, to me, just look better with some color (like the one of the hubs' skateboard).

The photos I have been using as my title cards this year are usually random ones from the week. This week I wanted to remember that I had to commute to the Woodlands (about 1 hour north of where I live) for work.
We took the boys to Chuck E. Cheese on morning because the zoo was rained out. My favorite 2 photos were 4x6, the rest I included in a collage.

The first insert of the year!

We went to Oxheart for dinner with our dear friends E&R on Friday night. Reservations must be made one month in advance. Some of our friends don't see the value in paying $$ for vegetarian fare, but we thought it was delicious!

The aforementioned photo of the hubs' skateboard was actually taken by the hubs and the writing was taken from his FB. I am definitely trying to get more of his POV into the album this year, as it is supposed to be about our life, not just mine ;)
And we've been spending lots of time with our yoga friends this year. I really love them all so much. Yogis are good peeps!

I've been using a combination of computer and handwritten journaling. The computer print is much easier to read, but I'm working on my writing!

The cards used were from the Midnight, 5th and Frolic and Vintage Travel editions, with a random card from a Studio Calico kit (I don't subscribe but I buy them when I "need" something, usually a stamp, in that month's kit!).

project life 2013 | week 20 {blog hop!}

Hi and welcome to our May

week 20 title page

I am happy to report that I have been more or less current with my weekly layouts. To me, the beauty of this whole project is the IMMEDIACY of the memory keeping. You can literally record a moment the moment after it happens, on a 3x4 journaling card if you choose.

My pages this week actually coincide with the monthly topic so I thought I would discuss using the different page protectors. Last year I bought the big variety pack with 6 different page designs, but I found too many designs made planning things too complicated (another way to keep up with PL is to keep things as simple as possible!). This year I have been using mostly design A protectors, but got a little bored this week so switched it up a bit.

week 20 left side

This side uses a design D protector, which is obviously great for vertical photos. And I tried something new this week - using old photos in a "current" album - and love it!

May 12th was Mother's Day, so to honor our moms I made a layout with baby pics of the hubs and I with our mommies. This page makes me smile. The photos of Joe and his mom are scanned and printed copies while my photos are the actual originals, so I used photo corners to adhere them to the page instead of using adhesive directly onto the pic. I am definitely going to do this same thing for Father's Day.

Using design F page protectors is great for adding lots of small, i.e. Instagram/iPhone photos. I tried to do a random mix of square and rectangular photos as well as digital and physical stamping. Part of me is tempted to go all digital next year, but I love playing (and buying) paper too much! I bought the Blush edition from Hobby Lobby and actually used it on this page. It may be my new favorite.

Hope your Project Life is going well and you are having fun with it. I look forward to seeing all our PL inspiration!

project life 2013 | week 6 {blog hop!}

Hi and welcome to our February
Project Life Blog Hop for our Project Life Connection Group “Project Everyday Blessings”

ALL ABOUT THE PHOTOS
week 06 01
This year I have been experimenting with different photo printing options. Last year I was completely OCD about being "caught up" every week and used Walgreens almost exclusively. The reason I decided to change is really simple: I prefer matte photos over glossy and Walgreens only has glossy available. After using both Snapfish and Winkflash online, I have decided I will probably do most of my printing at Costco. Good quality and good prices, especially for enlargements.

WEEK 6 {Feb 3-9}
week 6 02
title card
Like I have mentioned before, I have been using digital elements and my Instagram photos-of-the-day to create my weekly title cards. I like how this brings uniformity to the album. This year the focus of my POTD has been city scenes, as suggested by the hubs.

week 06 03

As you can see from this layout, the majority of the photos I took this week were of people.

I also included a photo of a four-legged creature.

week 6 05

From doing this for 3 years now, on a week when we have a lot going on I typically know in my mind what I want to include in Project Life. The people in our life are important to me and I like to remind myself how lucky I am to have them!

week 06 06week 06 07
insert front and back
We took our nephews to the zoo one day. I actually think my favorite photo of the bunch is the one with the hubs and JJ walking together - I love seeing how tall Joe is compared to JJ and it will be fun to notice how that changes with time.

week 06 08

And I don't mind that the majority of the photos included in the spread are taken from only a few days. Those are the things I want to remember from the week.

week 06 09
full spread, insert left side
Photos from Nikon (dSLR): 11
Photos from Canon (Point and shoot): 3
Photos from iPhone (excluding IGs on title card): 5
Yes, some days I may actually have 3 cameras on my person, but I'm just weird like that. Lots of fun stuff going on this week that I wanted to take better photos of so the big camera came out a lot. This is not always the case.

I am looking forward to see photo inspiration along the hop! Thanks for stopping by :)

project life 2013 | title page {blog hop!}

Hi and welcome to our January

If you came from Crafting for Them, you are on the right track!
Here is my the title page for my 2013:

For my title page I always like to use part of a Becky Higgins' core kit (Seafoam this year!) as well as photos.

01 title page a
The top left pocket is a freebie from Cathy Z. that I recolored in Photoshop. Our initial card is from her as well. I love her clean and simple style and my goal this year is to keep the lumpy embellishments to a minimum so I can add more inserts without fear of having to go to 3 albums.

01 title page b
I do like to add thickers from my stash (trying to use it up as well, but this becomes more difficult with all the cute new PL products coming out!) for a tiny bit of dimension. This card is simply one of the Seafoam journaling cards.

01 title page c
The photos I included of the hubs and me were actually from last year (December at least!). And to tell you a not-so-secret, I loved this self-portrait of the two of us from NYE so much that I used it at the end of my 2012 album as well. If (when) I do a second album for 2013 I will use current photos for the new title page.

And a little about my process:
So I am not a very organized scrapper. In fact, here is our dining room table right now:

02 mess a
Unfortunately I do not have a dedicated scrap space since we live in a small-ish highrise apartment. Fortunately the hubs doesn't mind the mess he finds at least once a week.

02 mess b
One of my goals this year is to make sure I use my kit as well as finish up my Turquoise kit from last year. {P.S. I have tons of extras to give away if anyone is interested - just leave a comment!} I have actually taken out 2 of each card to use up before I start repeating.

02 mess c
Taking photos everyday is almost second nature now, especially with iPhone technology. You always have your phone on you so you can always snap a pic of something. Anything! And that's really my method of memory keeping - photos first. I do plan to use the dSLR more this year - nothing beats the quality!

I can't wait to be inspired by everyone on the hop. Tried to keep it short and sweet this time around. If you want to see more of my layouts try here (2013) and here (2012).
