a little run

I have finally gotten off my a$$ and started running, albeit very slow, again. I am an early morning exerciser, whether it be yoga, running, lifting weights, boot camp, whatever. So when I get serious about one thing (yoga, these days), my interest in other forms of exercise wanes.

For some odd reason, stopping the running, practicing yoga 5-6 days/week, cutting out about 85% of gluten from my diet and not eating meat has actually helped me to lose weight without even trying. But I feel like I need a bit more cardio in my life, so my goal for March will be to run 1-3 morning/week (basically on the days I don't practice). This should be a completely doable goal and writing in on the old blog will make me more accountable.

Have a great weekend!

Anatomy of a great Saturday

I love having Saturdays off. I really treasure them because I work at least 2 Saturdays a month for the whole day and usually another just for an hour or two.

Yesterday was a crazily humid day. I was sweating buckets after our morning run. We also practiced yoga at our gym instead of our yoga studio, which I actually really enjoyed. I practice ashtanga yoga, which is fairly intense, at least 3-4x/week. I have been doing so for over 5 years and I absolutely love the way it makes me feel, both mentally and physically. Over the last couple months I have been getting deeper into poses than ever, which again, I love, but is putting some excess strain on my back. So I like to mix up my practice with some vinyasa yoga, which is similar but not necessarily the same.

After our morning workouts, we ran lots of errands. We checked out the 30% off sale at Old Navy, but didn't get much. IMG_0169Then we headed to Lowe's to buy a much needed grill!IMG_0170The hubs did most of the legwork on this. We decided this would be our anniversary gift to each other this year.me 050110Unfortunately Lowe's doesn't have a shoe section, so I go bored fairly quickly.IMG_0172But I can always find something to amuse myself with. Hopefully the grill will be ready for pickup today!IMG_0173By this time we had worked up a pretty good appetite so we had lunch at a new-to-us restaurant called Shawarma King, a middle Eastern place. IMG_0174The chicken shawarma I had was delicious and filling!

Our last stop was at Tast-ee Delite for some fro-yo, but I had to stop in Anthro just to check out the pretties.IMG_0175Joe was losing a bit of steam by then so we didn't stay long.

For dinner we met up with some friends at 1308 for a little Tex-Mex and then to Dean's for after dinner drinks. Needless today, we are dragging a little this morning! But all in all, it was an excellent day and I look forward to another one today.2010 05 01 photoAnd what I wore:05.01.10I love this wall of jasmine in our neighborhood and wish I could take all my remix photos in front of it!

Still missing my hour

I had big plans to get up early and work out this morning. However, when the alarm went off at 5 AM, I decided to turn it off and sleep "just a little more." Fast forward to me yawning a looking at the clock...good lord, it's already 6:30! So there goes those plans! Fortunately I have yoga after work, so all is not lost.

I am wearing a pair of new J. Crew cords to work today. I'm not sure if they can be counted as "business" casual, but since they are new and not worn out and it's still chilly enough to wear them, I will just because.

And look, I even had to to take a remix photo, upload and edit and blog it!

Getting back into the swing of things

With Joe's birthday last week as well as the holiday weekend, I fell of the working out/eating healthy bandwagon. Bodies in motion tend to stay in motion, bodies at rest, just like to veg! So this week I have been getting back into my workout mode. I have done cardio 3X already (Mon, Tues and today), ran 1X (Wed) and practiced yoga 1X (Wed). I am sore from yoga yesterday and did an extra long workout today so will be good and sore tomorrow. Kinda like that feeling!

We have also been lucky in getting many shipments of these all the way from Phoenix, AZ, courtesy of Aunt Nancy:I use them to make yummy smoothies:This has felt like an extra long week - because last week was so short and this week I will be working all weekend - boo! At least I have craft Sunday afternoon to look forward to ;)!

Recovering

The reason we drove to Austin over the weekend was for me to attend a yoga clinic with David Swenson and for Joe to practice cycling on hills. We both had excellent workouts. I practiced mysore for about 1 hour and 45 minutes and then attended a 3- hour inversion workshop, where we did lots of downward facing dogs, shoulder/head stands, camel poses and back bends. We weren't practicing the whole time, but it was still quite a workout.

Needless to say, I was extremely sore yesterday. I did some light cardio and practiced mysore again because I didn't want to forget what I had learned. And today I did about 1 hour of cardio. My legs are actually feeling a little better and hopefully tomorrow will be even better.

Sleeping is underrated

At the beginning of the week (Mon-Wed) I was doing good with getting up early and working out in the morning. But lost some steam yesterday because we went out for Richie's bday and today, well, because sleeping feels so good! I can console myself that at least I am going to yoga this afternoon!

Motivated

I am really having a hard time getting up to work out in the morning. I wake up early enough, but just don't have the motivation to go out and DO it! Maybe it's the cold weather or maybe it's the blah crampiness I have. At least yoga counts for something!

Been a good day so far

We have had a busy day and I am tired but content. We started off the day by waking up early (4:30 am - eep!) to start our 14 mile run. I always get very tired after 10 miles so this was a tough one. My Nano did last through the run, although the new arm band I got was soaked through.

We were back home by 8am. After a quick shower, smoothie for breakfast and a short rest we were off the yoga for class at 9:30. Yoga is hard after a long run, but it really does help stretch me out. I could tell I was still pretty dehydrated because I barely sweat at all during the practice.

We braved the masses at Central Market after yoga. I wanted to check out Lululemon for tax free weekend, but it wasn't open at 11:15 am!So we dropped off the groceries at home then went to Luke's. I wanted to buy another pair of running shoes but they didn't have my size in stock. So I settled for a couple pair of running shorts and bras.

For lunch we got take out from El Rey, a random Cuban-Mexican fast food place. And we watched MP go 8 for 8. THAT was amazing! I am a bit sad that swimming is over!

Now after watching some more Olympics Joe is in the middle of a well deserved nap and I am debating whether I want to nap or scrap...

Good morning!

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. I skipped my morning run because my back is extremely sore. I can't figure out if it's from yoga or the increase in running miles. When my running shoes were stolen, the inserts I bought from my chiropractor were stolen as well and I think they may have been helping more than I realize, so I may get some more from them.

After yogi today we are having another craft Monday - today's theme is tag books! I love being creative and having someone to be creative with!

An extra hour?

Technically we lost an hour last night, but we gain an extra hour of sun. I am looking forward to the longer days coming up.

This morning was spent working out - Joe and I ran at the park: him for 12 miles me for 9. Then I went to yoga and he went swimming. This afternoon was spent eating. I had lunch with my good friend Ree and her babies. They were so cute but definitely a handful. She is such a great momma! After meeting up with Ree I met Marc, Darah and the boys for brunch where I just had a plate of fruit and ate off of their plates. Needless to say, I am a full girl.Tonight Joe and I are going to cook some fish (locally caught catfish) and some veggies and just chill. That's all for now!

Sleeping is for pansies.

I think this morning was a record for me in terms of getting up to work out - 4AM baby! Joe wanted to run early so he would have time to lift weights and go to home depot before work. He is so efficient! So we were running in the Met garage by 4:30. Luckily I am a morning person by nature and don't mind the early hour too much: 1) as a young child mom would make us go to bed early early so I am used to sleeping early and not a night owl at all, 2) with our different work hours sometimes early in the morning is the most time I spend with Joe during the week, 3) I like exercising in the morning because it gives me more energy throughout the day and 4)it gives me more time to piddle around on the computer (i.e. blog) before I go to work! So it's a win win situation.

Now please excuse me while I go take a nap ;)!

Back in the swing of things

Once I get off my routine, I definitely have a harder time getting back in! I haven't gone to yoga at all and have only worked out 2x. My goal for Nov is to work out at least for 30 minutes everyday. I ran yesterday and am going to yoga tonight, so hopefully I can get back on track.

Tired today

My allergies are making me feel very run down today. I skipped yoga because I just wasn't feeling it. All I really want to do is go to sleep. But I haven't finished packing for our trip yet so maybe I'll just take a little nap before Joe gets home.

Lazy lazy

I have not been motivated to work out these past few months. Sleep is just too good. I can't remember the last time I went to the gym! Tomorrow I have to get up early to take Joe to the airport (Ironman this weekend!) so I will drag my a$$ there. Must. Go. To. Gym.

June already????

This year is flying by! And it's been hard to get motivated. To go to the gym, that is! A body in motion tends to stay in motion, while a body at rest, well, you get it. I was going to start the new month off by doing some cardio this morning. That didn't work out too well. I'm thinking this saturday I have no excuse. No work and Joe will be doing some crazy 6 hour workout, so one hour for me shouldn't be too bad. Especially with my new Ipod!

P.S. I had my first visitor here. She's a cute lady with a great blog. Does that mean I have to be clever when I write now?

Mornings to blog

I can tell already I'm having a hard time getting back into the work out routine. I am enjoying having these few hours at the house to myself. To give me credit I did do half an hour today - 150 bicycle curls, 100 modified push ups, 150 leg lifts and stretching my hamstrings in between. I really need to stretch - yoga is going to be bitch when I go back. I just don't like going to the gym to simply lift weights. It's just so boring to me. I probably need to get a new MP3 player - it's much easier right now at home because I was playing the stereo.

I really want to do a mini photo shoot when I go home. I just got to get the troops motivated. I want some fun pics of the fam. I guess the more I can plan it out the easier it will be for everyone. I think I will send Ting the link to the Tara Whitney blog so she can kind of see what I am imagining.

I need to do my Art Journal page and then get ready for work. Another day at the grind....

AI is almost ending. I am most sad about that. We will be having the closing party chez nous.

Run run run

SWAT was a great class this morning. George led the advanced group and we did a lot of runnning. I think I was sandbagging a bit, in anticipation of going to yoga, but overall I had a great workout. It's a good way to start the day!

Yesterday was a good scrappin' day. Did pretty much all of my Christmas cards from years past. I only have 2 pics left, one of Mo, Chris and Ethan, and one of Maria and Michael, which don't necessarily have to be scrapped as Christmas cards. I am really liking The Big Picture philosophy. It's taking eons for the chronological scrapper in me to let go, but it's happening, albeit slowly! Having this blog has also helped with my journaling. I find the more I write, the easier it gets. Go figure!

I am a sweaty mess so I should go a shower...

Terrible Tuesdays

The Met had a new class this morning - Strength, Stamina and speed, by Allison, this cute girl with really short bleached blonde hair, who also teaches spinning. It wasn't terribly hard, especially compared to boot camp, but wasn't a bad workout either. I should start running to the Met with Joe on Tuesday mornings when I go into work late. That way I can get some more cardio in.

I need to get motivated to go the g-store here before work. As usual, we are almost completely out of food!!

8:49 PM
The day goes by so fast when work goes late. I am tired tired tired. Yet still amused by my boy. A favorites expression is "BEEEG ONES...," referring to any number of things - use your imagination.

We did cook some pasta for dinner tonight - actually cooking is a bit of a stress relief - something to concentrate on that has a finite ending. And yogurt is still our favorite dessert (well, not really, but at least it's good for you!).

What a blah day. I have a feeling tomorrow will be much the same - stress stress stress! Time to hit the hay...Over and out!

Mini-swat

I worked out with Beth and Greg Apke, a couple from the Met, this morning. We did a pseudo-SWAT workout along the bayou. I miss having SWAT on tues/thurs, especially now since 1 - I am no longer training for the marathon and 2 - I lost my running buddy! Nothing bonds people more than having to get up at the crack of dawn and working out! That's what really got Cindy and I to be closer friends. We would run and just talk about anything and everything. Man, I miss her already!

Work was rather stressful yesterday and I didn't get out until late so I didn't go to yoga. I did make some rice and veggies to go with the chicken Joe made so the night wasn't a total loss. And Idol! was on, which made my night. I don't know why I love that show so much. I definitely enjoyed the guys' performances much better than the girls. The girls did way too many slow ballads. My favorite is still Ace. He is hot and can sing!

Joe's aunt Nancy is coming to visit this weekend. Since we haven't seen her in over a year it will be a good time, but I feel bad because we still have no furniture! Hopefully it will be here within the next month....

Laters!

Long day

Boot camp kicked my butt this morning so I skipped yoga this evening. Just wasn't feelin' it. I actually have enjoyed relaxing at home - cleaning up a bit and watching Idol of course! It's funny how I like to clean the house before Julia, our housekeeper, comes over!

Our DDR went out, which distresses me to no end. I have to watch live TV?!?!?! That stinks!

Today was stressful at work - I was just tired all day! But it's over and we're a day closer to Vegas, Baby! One last note - Joe got me the cutest Tiffany's heart bracelet for V-day. Love my boy!
