Today was just an average, ordinary day. Still glad the sun is out but it's not terribly hot. Yet. And really looking forward to the weekend.


I like this skirt but it works better with heels, which I haven't been wearing much lately (although I did yesterday and yoga didn't suffer as much this morning as I thought it would). Still on the fence on whether to keep it...

I'm loving the extra daylight we are now receiving. I'm loving that spring is almost here. The sun is bright, sky is clear, all is good. I'm also loving that I am almost feeling 100% again. Allergies seem to be subsiding (knock on wood). Just a little pain in the glute but nothing that's unmanageable.


Love this neon pink skirt and am thinking it is going to get a ton of wear this spring/summer. I have slowly been doing the Great Closet Purge of 2013 and hoping to get rid of things that I have been wearing and/or don't love.


This olive cardi has proved to be surprisingly versatile and lasted through many different hair cuts. Guess it will be a keeper!

weekend casual | you're an all-star

Houston was the host for the NBA all-star weekend and the chaos commenced Thursday evening. We didn't go to any events but did walk around a bit just to see what all the fuss was about. Apparently the police shut down the Galleria an hour earlier than normal on Saturday night because it was beyond capacity. Glad we weren't anywhere near there!

Too bad I didn't get any celebrity photos, but we did have a major celebrity (well, major to us, at least) sighting yesterday. Our neighbor is a certain #13 for the Houston Rockets and we rode down the elevator with him in the afternoon. Sounded like he was running late for the game and he had one of his many entourage with him. I had my big camera on me but didn't want to be the invasion-of-privacy neighbor so refrained from asking him if I could take a pic. This is only the 2nd time I've run into him so next time I need to figure out a tactful way to ask for a photo :)

weekend casual | that pink sweater again

The hubs and I had a pseudo movie and dinner date yesterday. (Well, I suppose we can call it a real date night, although I guess technically everything we do together could be called a date).


Daniel Day-Lewis was amazing as Lincoln and, to attest to Spielberg's directing talents, I was on the edge of my seat when the House was counting the votes for the 13th amendment, even though I know how it turns out :)


Afterwards we went to our favorite vegetarian restaurant in town, Radical Eats. I ordered the special: vegan pho, what was absolutely delicious. Anyone who thinks vegetarian food doesn't have any taste obviously hasn't tried hard enough to look for it.

You can't really tell from this photos, but these jeans, a Christmas gift from Joe's sister, has tiny little polka dots on them. I've been addicted to brightly colored and fun jeans this season. I think a slightly oversized sweater or sweatshirt with a big heart would be perfect with this. But I will make do with pink.

I go through phases where I am very good and don't shop for months at a time.


And when I buy, I try to buy things I love and will wear over and over again.

But the last few weeks has seen a sharp increase in my spending and acquiring - like both the red and pink pair of cropped pants bought on sale. I love their fit, comfort and color so couldn't resist. I may have gotten other packages from Loft and Anthro as well; couldn't resist the call of Cyber Monday. I have made a promise not to spend any more $$ on myself in December (or at least until the after Christmas sales!).


I do like having evidence that I wear the clothes I own :)

These 20+ degree weather difference we've been having lately has really been doing a number on my system. I pride myself never getting sick but I've had something twice already this year.

This time around no hacking cough - just lots and lots and lots of congestion and an overall tired/run-down feeling, that seems to be helped by Dayquil/Nyquil.

So I decided to go with a theme for dressing this week. Obviously I have more pink sweaters that one person really should have.


But I probably wear pink more than one person should so it all works out.

This weekend went by in a whirlwind of activity and I could use another weekend to recover! Fortunately the work week will be shorter (unfortunately Friday is a work day for me, but I don't think we'll be super busy). I'm looking forward to spending some QT with the fam :)


We gave one of our friends a GC to the Apple store for his bday and he finally bought his new iPhone 5. I love the panoramic function on its camera - so fun!

This outfit worked better in my mind than in real life. The pants somehow got looser throughout the day and don't look as good as real skinny jeans/pants inside the boots. Oh well, onto the next one!

I think I am almost over this thing that has been kicking my a$$ for the past 2 weeks. Actually slept without being woken up by hacking coughs for the last 2 nights, although I am basically almost sleeping sitting up since lying flat seems to make it worse still.

I don't normally wear a huge amount of makeup on a good day, but I definitely couldn't be bothered this week. It would all wipe off with the amount I am blowing my nose!

We went to a movie last night. It had so much potential, but wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. Did bring back high school flashbacks and how I am so happy I survived that part of my life!

On Saturday the temperature dropped pretty low and whatever the cold weather brought was not well received by my body. I pride myself on being a healthy person and never getting sick, but I have been hacking up a lung this week.

I was feeling so bad I even missed 2 days of yoga practice, which is a big deal for me. And comfort has been the key to dressing this week.

I keep telling myself it's just allergies but one of my yoga peeps (who is a pediatrician) heard me this morning and declared I had a virus, which should work itself out after about 10 days. So I am keeping my fingers crossed she is correct! And I guess I am a bit sick.

I've mentioned this before and I'm sure I'll mention it again, but having a Granimal-like wardrobe helps when throwing outfits together!

I am not wearing anything new, but I am posing in a new backdrop (our pool area, should have thought of this a long time ago!) and posting at a new time (PM instead of AM). Minor things, really.


I have actually worn these jeans a multitude of times but haven't photographed every.single.outfit. as they all tend to look similar. I like that these are a bit different than regular blue jeans and they are uber comfortable.


One new thing for today, though: eyelashes! I did these at the end of last year and while I don't like maintaining them, having them for a few months is always fun.

Shopping seems to occur the most for me during the changing of the seasons. Down here in Texas, when stores are bringing out fall sweaters and boots, the temperatures are still in the 90s so I am not so inclined to by a sweater. Conversely, summer items end up going on sale and I love a good deal, like this dress, which was on sale with an additional 40% off.


Insanely out-of-control closet
That said, even though I think of myself as a good bargain hunter, my closet is so full I really don't need another dress. And since moving into our new place, I have been really bad about sticking to my 1-in-2-out rule. I am writing this now so I can keep myself accountable to you, dear reader. Please keep me to it!

The hubs and I are in Austin this week: me for work and him because I am here. Despite being a work trip, being here feels like a mini-vacation: less hectic schedule, meeting up with friends for meals, good yoga studio and great biking for Joe. Having cooler temps helps as well. {and can you believe it's the last week in September? where has this year gone?!?}
