finally Friday
tank: J. Crew / shirt: NY+Co / skirt&necklace: Loft / shoes: Tory Burch / bag: LV / earrings: gift'd
Funny how taking photos of yourself can teach you how to have a more critical eye on what you are wearing. The length on this skirt works much better with flats, but I should have done something to define my waist a bit more as now I look square shaped. The beauty of taking outfit photos is that eventually you learn what really works for yourself, for me anyways.
This tank is great for layering or by itself.
Love this shirt too.
I am so ready for the weekend to get started. How about you?

shorts in the city
top: LoL for Target / shorts: J. Crew / shoes: Dolce Vita for Target / sunnies: Gucci / bag: LV
Summer always comes early in Texas. Flattering shorts are a must.
top: Loft / shorts: J. Crew / shoes: Target / sunnies&bag: Gucci
I "need" shorts in all colors of the rainbow! But these two will do for now.
The hubs and I caught a matinee of Bernie on Monday. Highly recommend, especially if you live in Texas. The movie is based on a true story about Carthage, a small east Texas town, and features real citizens from the town.

Pseudo-ban
top: LoL for Target / pants: Gap / shoes: Old Navy / earrings: gift'd
I have both consciously and unconsciously not been shopping a lot this year. Consciously by cutting down on the amount of style blogs I read, especially those with an emphasis on wearing everything new, new, new as well as those skewed towards certain stores, as well as deliberately deleting all store sale emails before I am even tempted.
My lack of new clothes have probably been contributing to my lack of motivation to blog about the same ole stuff, but really I like to see how other people wear the same clothes in different ways, so why shouldn't I do the same? I love the print on this top and, of course, the color. Apparently I need to wear it with something other than black, though. My favorite look of the bunch is the pink on pink. Any suggestions?
top: Loft / skirt: Old Navy / shoes: Geox / earrings&bag: gift'd / belt: Anthro
The unconscious shopping ban has been due to our big move. We have been so busy packing, unpacking and decorating as well as enjoying the new place that I haven't really had that much time to shop anyways. And nothing with stop you from buying more sh!t than having to pack it all up!
However, I couldn't resist the call of the Anthro birthday discount as well as their bi-annual "big" sale. I wasn't super impressed with what they had, but I did pick up a few basics, a fun top as well as this belt.
Raise your hand if you are ready for the weekend already. I've got both mine up!

Pink is the new black
top: Liberty of London for Target / jeans: Gap / shoes: Target / sunnies: Gucci / bag: LV
Pink, for me, is practically like a neutral. I can pair it with just about anything!
I never thought to pair this top with anything besides a traditional neutral so I'm glad I happened to pack them together on our trip to Dallas. And I like it belted, although in going with my "less" theme, I have been minimal on my accessories lately.

Happy May!
top: J. Crew / jeans: Gap / shoes: B. Makowsky / bag: LV
I'm still in love with colored jeans for the spring and summer. The brighter, the better!
May is my favorite month of the year, and not just because it's our anniversary and my birthday month. Well, mostly because of that, but also because usually the weather is still nice enough to enjoy being outside. I'm looking forward to a great month!

new sunnies
dress: Banana / shoes: B. Makowsky / sunnies: Gucci / bag: LV / jewelry: gift'd
I pretty much wear clothes and shoes from Target to Saks and really don't care what label they are as long as they fit well and I like them. I am, however, somewhat of a sunglasses snob. Maybe because of what I do, but I feel like pricier sunglasses are worth the money. The last pair of cheapie shades I bought gave me a headache due to distortions in the lenses, so I threw them out.
My latest pair are so big and purple and fun!
I also love the signature bamboo that makes the temples.
Expect to see a lot more of them this spring and summer!

working wardrobe | florals please
top&belt: Anthro / skirt: J.Crew / wedges: Ann Klein / jewelry: gift'd
The past few weeks have found my closet in a disarray, so I am happy to finally be a bit more organized and reacquainted with my wardrobe.
dress: ABS / cardi: Gap / wedges: Payless / sunnies: Dsquared / bag: LV
I have been reaching for my dresses more and more often lately, just because they are so easy to wear.
top&shoes: J. Crew / skirt: Loft
And apparently the theme for what I wore to work this week was florals. Seeing my outfits as a group are more exciting to me than each one individually so I may just try this out for a bit.

Being outside in October/November in Houston is much more bearable as the weather has definitely cooled down. The humidity has returned but I think another cold front in coming through tonight.
This little dress have served me well over the past few years. Although it is showing some signs of wear, it only gets more comfortable after every wash.

A creative lull
On days when I feel less than inspired by my wardrobe, I pick a fun top and comfy bottoms.

shoes: J. Crew
earrings, bangles: various, gift'd
necklace: Collingnon Designs

top: Anthro
skirt: Old Navy
shoes: Marc Jacobs
sunnies: Dsquared
earrings: Collingnon Designs, gift'd
cuff: gift'd

The first look is from yesterday and the second from about two weeks ago. I count on Anthro to find unusual tops that are easy to wear. Lately I've been all about comfort. It's weird; I don't feel like shopping but I'm not feeling inspired either. I guess getting dressed has a creative flow too; sometimes you feel it and sometimes you don't. The only difference is that for most of us, getting dressed for public is a necessity while other creative endeavors can be put on the back burner.

While I enjoy having a versatile basick pencil skirt at my disposal, I think I need to shake things up a bit. I know I said I don't feel like shopping but we are going to the shopping mecca of the world (well, for me at least) - NYC - this week! My (shopping) goal is to find some fun pieces at stores not in Houston.

The hubs and I are definitely looking forward to our annual visit to the city. I will make every effort to post something the rest of the week but can make no promises.
P.S. Unfortunately my Chinese cooking skills are really limited to stir fry so those dumplings from last week are not homemade by me. We went to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Bellaire called Yummy Kitchen and they were definitely yummy!

Before there was Missoni, Liberty of London was all the rage. I really loved the bright patterns and designs they brought to Target.
And a big clown collar always makes me smile.

Wearing a little
everything remix'd but shirt
shirt&skirt: J. Crew
shoes: 9West
earrings: Collingnon Designs, gift'd
necklace: F21
belt: Anthro
bag: LV
I bought this shirt in the middle of the summer but it's been too hot to wear anything with sleeves until now. It's my nod to the chambray shirt trend without being too much. Yes, I know I am behind. I take my time before I decide if I like a trend or not.
Lucky for me, pencil skirts are timeless and not trendy. Although I the ones at J.Crew are a bit pricey, the definitely wear and fit well.

Vacationing always throws a wrench in my schedule. This week has been a whirlwind of activity every night. I feel like I haven't yet caught up on my sleep, uploading vacation photos, reading blogs, etc. And don't even ask me how the house looks. Important stuff, I know. Tonight I am looking forward to good yoga practice to finish out the week and an early night to bed. You know you are getting old when a good night's sleep sounds better than a night out partying!

top: Ann Taylor
pants: Gap
shoes: Charles David
earrings:
bracelets: Tiffany's, Banana, various, all gift'd
This is the kind of outfit I reach for when I haven't planned anything to wear after a trip and I want to be comfortable.

I fell in love with this top after seeing it on Chloe when it came out. I loved it so much that I bought it in 2 different colors. These days I am not as inclined to buy multiples as I find I wear one more than the other. I do wish Gap would make more of these style pants a la J.Crew because they fit so well.

A close up of my bracelets. I found the two gold chains in the depths of my jewelery box...I don't remember when I aquired them, but I am pretty sure they are gifts from my grandma. I inherited my love all things pretty from her.

As you can see, I do love this top. It really adds a little something something to an outfit, don't you think?

No sleeves please
The buzz around the fashion/style blogosphere seems to be the upcoming fall season and fashion. Unfortunately here down south wearing layers is months away. I always crack up when I see sweaters and jackets on display at stores - I can hardly even think about wearing anything with sleeves right now!

This is another top I decided to wear after seeing Linda, a fellow Texan blogger, wear the dress version. It is another oldie but goodie:
Here I am wearing it during our trip to Ibiza back in 2008.
These shorts are not quite as old, purchased in 2009. I have been favoring shorter shorts this summer compared to last but bermudas are a good length when going to dinner so your thighs don't stick to the chair. :)

dress: Loft

Sometimes wearing dresses almost seems like fashion cheating...they are so easy to style and wear! I need to get a close-up of the belt - its bow matches my shoes!
I acquired this dress last year and really love it. Now I am realizing I need to layer it up to wear during cooler months!

Another day, another outfit

dress: Old Navy
shoes: B.Makowsky

One of the stops on our Saturday shopping trip was Anthro. They actually had multiples of the dress I tried on earlier in the week, but I decided my closet is too small to have 2 almost identical dresses. Maybe if it goes through a second cut...
I rediscovered my love for putting photos on paper with glue, much thanks to shimelle, one of my scrapping idols. I spent the better part of my weekend doing this instead of going to the stores to save 8.25% with tax-free weekend. And my overstuffed closet thanks me for it.
What kind of things do you do to reduce your shopping/spending urge?

When designer jeans were all the rage a few years back, I obsessed about buying some True Religions. I found these for a song at a sample sale during one of our NYC visits. They fit perfectly and make me feel long and skinny, which is what a good pair of jeans should do.
As much as I love skinny jeans, nothing is more flattering to me than a good pair of bootcut jeans. Especially for chicks with muscular thighs like myself!

Sometimes it pays to be a hoarder

top: Anthro
skirt: Nordstrom (old)
shoes: Ann Klein
sunnies: Dsquared
earrings&cuff: gift'd
bag: LV
I bought this skirt in 2005 to wear to a dear friend's wedding. I think I wore it exactly once. I never gave it away because it fit so well and had such a darling print, but I never knew when to wear it and the length was a bit odd...so I thought.
Fastforward 6 years later...with the Mad Men style revival, longer lengths and ladylike styles are more popular now. The skirt still fits perfectly, is lined and comfortable and matches a new top exactly! This is almost like having a new skirt without shelling out the cash.
Here I am at the aformentioned wedding, with my two besties from high school. We still see each other once a year even though we live on opposite ends of the country. And I could probably wear the same exact outfit today and be okay. Timeless style and timeless friends are always good things.
Happy Friday! I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend full of a whole lotta nothin'. And by nothin' I mean reading and catching up on my blogroll :)

{Insert clever title here}
I guess asking a group of like-minded ladies if I should buy an item of clothing is like asking a sweet tooth who is trying to lose weight if they want another tiny piece of dessert. It probably won't hurt, but do they really need it ;)? The dress is sold out online and if I make it back to our local Anthro any time soon I may buy it, but my heart won't be broken if they are out as well. I'm sure I will find another dress at some point in my life!
