Over the course of my  outfit documentation these past few years, I have noticed one trend in my closet - I love pretty dresses and tend to keep them for long periods of time.


I bought this one specifically to wear to our rehearsal dinner, many moons ago.


And it's made it to many other special occasions.


I am happy to have found a way to make it work in my everyday life wardrobe these days. 

A good combination

This outfit made me happy. The combination of old (top, which I've had forever) with new (skirt, this year) and high (Theory) with low (Payless) proves to me that style not where you buy your clothes but how you wear them. And a little lot of pink is always a good thing.

A new favorite

This is seriously the favorite look I've worn to work in a long time. Usually when I buy new clothes, I let them sit for a while before wearing them. Not so with this neon pink pencil skirt. I absolutely adore it! The color is so bright and happy and so me, I can't help but smile when I see/wear it. The only thing that would have made this look even better is if I had those Valentino bow pumps ;). Be prepared for a lot more pink this summer.

One good thing about packing and moving is that it makes you look long and hard at all the stuff we have acquired after living in the same place for 6+ years. Even though our place was small, we managed to fill it to the brim. So purging and donated unwanted things have felt good.

My one little word for the year is LESS and so far I think I'm doing pretty good with it, especially as far as my closet goes. Probably 85-90% of my clothes are things that I don't mind wearing on a regular basis, and that's what developing a working closet means, I think.

The best part about pencil skirts is that they will never go out of style. For me, ones with extra colors and fun patterns are even more versatile because I can pair them with virtually anything in my closet.

The past few weeks have found my closet in a disarray, so I am happy to finally be a bit more organized and reacquainted with my wardrobe.

This week tights were back in the rotation. Winter weather in Houston will always keep you guessing. Today it's rainy and dreary, which is a perfect day to wear scrubs.


I love knit tops that are have a bit of texture. They add a nice layer in cooler months and more visual interest to a simple outfit in warmer months.

This is a working weekend for me so I hope the rain keeps up. Nothing is more depressing than working on a sunny Saturday!

The always adorable and fashionable Megan and Keely are hosting another fashion challenge this week, in which I will attempt to participate as best as I can. Layers can be tricky in the South, as sometimes the weather just doesn't allow for them, even in the dead of winter, so this will definitely be a challenge for me.

I really love these red wedges even though they are a bit tight. I am hoping they will stretch out after a bit of wear. The weekend seemed to have flown by and I still can't believe January is almost over! The hubs was out of town this weekend and I am ready to see him tonight :)

Last week felt endless; this week has flown by! Although it is Friday, this will be a working weekend for me, so no rest for the weary.

Joe swam into the wall of the pool yesterday morning and left himself with a minor injury. Fortunately the wound was superficial and simply required 3 stitches. Our patient is doing better this morning. But he did give his wife quite a little scare and she is glad he will survive.

Is it weird that the hubs and I are in bed before 9 PM and up before 5 AM? I swear we are not grandparents, we just like to sleep! We rarely watch TV these days; in fact the only shows we watch on a regular basis are Modern Family and The Soup. The Soup keeps us up-to-date on pop culture so we feel like we know what's going on, even if we don't!

I thought these 2 green outfits would look good in the same post, as they are color I don't typically gravitate to. Pink will always be my signature color, but I like the share the love with other colors in the rainbow.

I am thankful that this is a non-working weekend and we really don't have anything big planned. I could use a nice, long weekend full of nothing.

I have decided that the exception to my new 1-in-2-out rule to my closet will be shoes. While I will definitely be getting rid of some I don't wear that often, you really can never have enough. And usually they are different enough to justify being in my wardrobe. These wedges at Payless were pretty cheap (of course) but they are surprisingly cute and comfortable as well. Even if they wear out after one year I think they will be worth their minimal investment.

This last week of the year at work has been absolutely insane...I've been coming home every night thoroughly exhausted and now the thought that the last day of 2011 is almost upon us has sunk in. I have been thinking about different goals I have for 2012 but have yet to write anything down. I switched from resolutions to goals because resolutions are never kept, at least by me!


And because I am a master remixer (ha!), nothing can be more useful than a plain white tee, especially one with ruffles around the collar.
