that time of year

09.11.12
top: Anthro / skirt: F21 / shoes: Ann Klein / belt: Ann Taylor
I went to Forever 21 looking for Burning Man clothes, but I also found this fairly modest, well-fitting skirt. I love the polka dots, so of course it came home with me.

But, really, it's that time of year again. Not back to school and not even back to fall, although the temps and humidity have been more bearable this week. Allergy season - woot! Scratchy throat, itchy eyes, sneezy nose...gotta love the change in weather that comes with September. Here's to hoping allergy weather will keep the temps even cooler.

working wardrobe | florals please

Untitled
top&belt: Anthro / skirt: J.Crew / wedges: Ann Klein / jewelry: gift'd

The past few weeks have found my closet in a disarray, so I am happy to finally be a bit more organized and reacquainted with my wardrobe.

dress: ABS / cardi: Gap / wedges: Payless / sunnies: Dsquared / bag: LV

I have been reaching for my dresses more and more often lately, just because they are so easy to wear.

And apparently the theme for what I wore to work this week was florals. Seeing my outfits as a group are more exciting to me than each one individually so I may just try this out for a bit.

Vacationing always throws a wrench in my schedule. This week has been a whirlwind of activity every night. I feel like I haven't yet caught up on my sleep, uploading vacation photos, reading blogs, etc. And don't even ask me how the house looks. Important stuff, I know. Tonight I am looking forward to good yoga practice to finish out the week and an early night to bed. You know you are getting old when a good night's sleep sounds better than a night out partying!

Thanks!

I am feeling much better about my whole blogging thing thanks to everyone's kind comments over the last 2 posts. Writing here should be fun and not a chore so I will treat it as such!

This is the kind of outfit I reach for when I haven't planned anything to wear after a trip and I want to be comfortable.

I fell in love with this top after seeing it on Chloe when it came out. I loved it so much that I bought it in 2 different colors. These days I am not as inclined to buy multiples as I find I wear one more than the other. I do wish Gap would make more of these style pants a la J.Crew because they fit so well.

A close up of my bracelets. I found the two gold chains in the depths of my jewelery box...I don't remember when I aquired them, but I am pretty sure they are gifts from my grandma. I inherited my love all things pretty from her.

As you can see, I do love this top. It really adds a little something something to an outfit, don't you think?

I bought this skirt in 2005 to wear to a dear friend's wedding. I think I wore it exactly once. I never gave it away because it fit so well and had such a darling print, but I never knew when to wear it and the length was a bit odd...so I thought.

Fastforward 6 years later...with the Mad Men style revival, longer lengths and ladylike styles are more popular now. The skirt still fits perfectly, is lined and comfortable and matches a new top exactly! This is almost like having a new skirt without shelling out the cash.

Here I am at the aformentioned wedding, with my two besties from high school. We still see each other once a year even though we live on opposite ends of the country. And I could probably wear the same exact outfit today and be okay. Timeless style and timeless friends are always good things.

Happy Friday! I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend full of a whole lotta nothin'. And by nothin' I mean reading and catching up on my blogroll :)

week in the life | thursday

Again, work was crazy busy and I pretty much only took photos at the beginning and end of the day. Photos of work wouldn't be that exciting anyways...

Yes, the hubs came down last night to hang out :)

Luckily I went shopping the on Wednesday because the pants I brought to wear somehow shrunk in the wash and were too wrinkly to wear to work, even after I ironed them. So the debut of a new dress:

I wish I lived near a large field! I had so much fun taking photos in the dress out in the field by the hotel. I had to take them quickly so no one would notice though.

week in the life | wednesday

Work days are more difficult to snap interesting pics. especially when it gets busy. I like to keep my work life and personal life as separate as possible. Yesterday got pretty crazy in the afternoon so I rewarded myself with a trip to Anthro (among other stores). I bought a skirt there in May and still hadn't worn it so decided to return it and pick up a few other things. I adore the pattern on the first dress I tried on, but the fit was all off - too tight up top and too loose on bottom, which is usually exactly the opposite on most things I try on. Guess what came home with me! I promise to debut them sooner rather than later.

I was too tired to take a proper outfit photo, so this will have to do. I tried on a few things at Crew for sizing but passed (even with extra 40% off!).

Veintiuno: Pseudo-color blocking

07.08.11
1 top: Anthro, remix'd
7 pants: Gap, remix'd
8 shoes: Ann Klein, remix'd
sunnies: Dsquared, remix'd
earrings: Collingnon Designs, remix'd
bracelets (not visible): Calypso for Target, new

I absolutely adore the color blocking trend that has been going on this year. As much as I love bright colors, however, I don't have that many bottoms in solid bright colors. Navy is more of a neutral, but I'll take what I can get.

2011 07 bracelets
The shopping ban has been going well as far as the clothing department, but I have added considerably to my accessory section. I can go to the Galleria in search of a birthday present for the hubs and come home empty handed for either one of us, but every time I step into Target, I leave with at least 5 items I didn't know I needed! These bracelets/chains were on sale for $3.74 each, so I bought 3 for myself and 3 for my sister. I can't resist clearance items from Tar-jay!

This top has been a workhorse ever since I acquired it from Anthro last year. Now I need a bright orange or yellow pencil skirt to get the real color blocking effect.
