weekend casual | that time of year again

@hoover11 running a 7.30 pace for the half marahon
The hubs braved the cold, windy and wet conditions to run a 7:30 half-marathon pace. We made it out just in time to see him past by and this, unfortunately, was the best shot I took.

Only in Houston will you find muggy 70+ degree weather one day and cold 40s the next. Finally had a reason to bust out my bright cords today!

bobble head

03.01.12
dress: J.Crew / cardi: Loft / shoes: Charles David / earrings: JewelMint / cuff: gift'd

My outfit photos taken by the hubs always crack me up because I look like a bobble head - big ole noggin and little tiny legs. Is this how all tall people view people who come below their neck?

Feeling behind

02.15.12
top&belt: Anthro / skirt: J.Crew / shoes: Aldo / earrings&cuff: gift'd / necklace: Collignon Designs, new&gift'd / tights: Hue

I've been feeling perpetually behind this week; on what I am not sure. I guess spending the one weekend day I had off in Austin just threw off my schedule a bit. I am looking forward to a whole lotta nothing this weekend.

My hubs is such a good man. Even though I said no gifts on love day, he gave me some anyways.

This lotus flower necklace, made by my dear friend Lauren, the amazing person behind Collignon Designs is going to be a new favorite, I can already tell. My collection of her pieces is growing and I love it!

And I love tulips, especially pink ones! They will brighten up the house this week.

Raise your hand if you wish it were Friday already!

on the mat | together alone

I have never been good at team sports, especially anything that involves a ball. That hand-eye-coordination is just not my thing. So in high school, when all the cool kids were playing volleyball, soccer or basketball, I was either running or doing conditioning (what the un-cool kids did during soccer season).

When I finally discovered yoga, particularly Ashtanga, I found where I belonged, on my mat, by myself. Yoga is a very personal activity, so I am so glad that the hubs understand my love for it.

Although Joe doesn't love it quite as much as I do, he does practice anywhere from 2-5 times/week, depending on his mood. And he gets why I have such a passion for it.

I am so lucky he has embraced the vegetarian lifestyle that usually accompanies yogis as they become more involved in the practice. I am so lucky he enjoys ending the work week with a Friday evening practice as much as I do. Having a partner who understand that I need to practice 6 days every week and who encourages me to do so makes it even better. So thanks for knowing what I need, Joe.

P.S. Our patient is doing much better, although he is already ready for the stitches to come out!

Last week felt endless; this week has flown by! Although it is Friday, this will be a working weekend for me, so no rest for the weary.

I love the texture of the ruffles on this cardi.

Joe swam into the wall of the pool yesterday morning and left himself with a minor injury. Fortunately the wound was superficial and simply required 3 stitches. Our patient is doing better this morning. But he did give his wife quite a little scare and she is glad he will survive.

Week in photos

My nephews were out of town the previous week, so this past week was full of babies!

Cuteness.

JJ is definitely starting his "terrible twos," but then he has moments like this. Look at those dimples!

Baby buddha is 8 months old already! I can't believe how fast time is flying. Pretty soon these monthly photos will be harder and harder to take because he won't be sitting still anymore.

Prepping for JJ's birthday party.

2011 11 19 photo
I can't believe this boy is already two (well, on the 27th, but who's counting). His parents' threw him an amazing fire truck themed party, complete with a live fire truck as well as an edible one.

2011 11 20 photo
And I can't forget my other cutie. We took a quick road trip to Austin on Saturday night to practice yoga with Tim Miller on Sunday as well as hang out in Austin for the day.

I misses his kisses

Last night I made the mistake of turning on the television and got sucked into The X Factor. It reminded me of past American Idol days, only different. I realized I like these kind of shows for the journey, not the end product. Seeing someone fulfill their dreams is always inspiring to me, but I don't think I have even bought 1 song from an AI winner.

pink floral dress 01
I am so glad I figured a way to wear this dress to work. Otherwise it would just be lounging loved, but unworn in my closet.

The hubs left yesterday afternoon to visit his family for a long weekend. He has been gone less than 24 hours and I already feel lost without him. Have a good trip babes but hurry home!

Week in photos

I was playing around with my 50-mm 1.8 lens this past week.

2011 08 22 photo
The hubs. He's a cutie! I love being out during the "golden hour" before sunset and would take more photos then if it weren't so damn hot!

2011 08 23 photo
Baby buddha. Another cutie. He is getting some teeth, which explains the constant drooly mouth.

2011 08 24 photo
My mom cooks this Chinese dish with dried mushrooms which translate from Mandarin into "wood ear." I just figured it was another random Asian-lost-in-translation thing, so imagine my surprise to find out that woodear mushrooms actually exist!

Nothing is more yummy that baby toes to me.

A selfie for another exciting Friday night.

2011 08 27 photo
The temperature at 8 pm on Saturday night was 105. Seriously. Everytime I step outside I feel like I am baking in an oven.

2011 08 28 photo
This photo cracks me up. What did we do before IPhones and Blackberrys? Oh yeah, actually talk to each other. Now we just text or post on Facebook.

Week in photos

I still have vacation brain so posts may be a little scattered this week.

2011 06 27 photo
My sis certainly has her hands full. I am bit sad because JJ is now very aware of who is Mama and who is Auntie. Auntie is definitely not Mama. Luckily little Buddha makes no such distinction! They are away at her in-laws for a couple weeks so I am missing my baby fix.

Quince: Happy birthday!

Halfway though the year and halfway through the remix challenge! I am just happy I still have 11 items to choose. Picking my clothes as I go has been fun - I have been trying to wear everything at least twice before selecting another piece of clothing. This way I am picking items that I actually like to wear!

My face looks unusually tan in these photos. I think the bronzer/blush I am using just shows up really dark in pictures because I am definitely not that tan in real life!

The best man that I have ever known turns 40 today. I am not sure how I lucked out in finding such a patient, generous, kind, and thoughtful partner (I could go on and on...did I mention he is really patient?), but this one is definitely a keeper! Here's to 40 more amazing years babe!

We are off to South Beach Miami to celebrate the aforementioned birthday with 20+ of our closest friends this weekend. I have good intentions of posting while we are away, but we will see how the weekend goes. Happy 4th of July to you and yours!

Guest post: Bringing her home from summer camp

*I wanted to hear Joe's thoughts about the trip so here he is!*

190539_603246746619_9807378_34369056_2991939_n
India = Wow, I mean wow.

Originally supposed to be trip I would only hear (and dream) about, my sulking in Houston quickly morphed into an 8 day visit into the controlled chaos, some jaw dropping yoga, and hanging with EE’s fellow campers (aka a super fun variety of fit & focused peeps).

I am not quite sure where to even start or how to best explain some of the things I saw so I will defer most of that to the wife’s tongue and the snaps of her lens to help explain.

One thing is for sure though – everywhere I went, looked, & turned - I was constantly reminded that I need to be more thankful and appreciative of everything. Some of those areas are:

- Thankful that Erik & Rachel were so generous showing us the in’s & outs of this trip. From our Q&A sessions to relaxing at their place before the car picked us up – they were always there for us.

- Thankful for Yannis, Erik, & Rachel helping me bring my practice where it is today.

- Thankful that my wife is brave and willing enough to take an out of her comfort zone risk (more like a “planned leap of faith”) by taking this trip in the first place. I love that about her.

- And thankful for the deep network of family and friends that we have. Though I am not sure they know or care, the thousands of India natives I have seen will likely never have many of the opportunities that I am so fortunate to have. I believe the root of those opportunities come, build, and thrive from a solid base of family and friends (aka “our crew!”)

Enough pining from me already as I must now get on it like a bonnet with my practice. I have tons to do before we go back in two years!

Namaste!

We're melting!

I have been sharing a more of Mysore with Joe today, including a short trip to the Devarage Market. The temperatures keep rising with no relief in sight: no wonder he is fast asleep at 6:19 PM!

So happy

2011 03 22 photo
He has arrived! We spent the better part of the day eating, introducing him to all the Ashtangis I have met, and napping. Sharath wasn't in his office hours so we paid his assistant and are keeping our fingers crossed that things go well tomorrow at practice!

I hope he gets over the jet lag sooner rather than later...there are still many meals to be had :)
