finally Friday (on Saturday!)

Somedays work is enjoyable and other days not so much. I suppose this is the way it is with almost everyone. Thursday was super busy but luckily Friday was better.

We went to the Spring Street Studio art opening and found a Photo Booth last night. That's always a good thing.

And I've been more inspired to dress up lately. Just not inspired to actually take photos of the outfits. ;)

Happy Saturday!

So thankful

UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitled
My birthday weekend was a beautiful one. We used my old big camera for the rest of yesterday so no photos yet; my new big camera needs to have its battery charged! And instead of being sad that I am a year older, I am happy that I have made it through another one and thankful for my health, family, friends, and Joe.

on the mat | just show up

Untitled
I've been told that the days you least feel like practicing are the most important ones to go. And I have found those days (like yesterday) can end up being the best practice days of the week/month/year. Yesterday was tough because I was practicing by myself for about 30 minutes before anyone else showed up. But it did turn out to be a great practice.

Untitled
{On an unrelated note:} Things have been quiet here lately on the blog-front as I seem to have run out of things to say! The blog started out as somewhat of a diary to myself, somehow morphed into a fashion/style blog and now is kind of mish mash of randomness. I am trying to let go of my self-imposed expectations of what I should be writing about and just write from my heart. Thanks to any followers to stay but I completely understand if you get bored and leave :)

Happy May!

I'm still in love with colored jeans for the spring and summer. The brighter, the better!

May is my favorite month of the year, and not just because it's our anniversary and my birthday month. Well, mostly because of that, but also because usually the weather is still nice enough to enjoy being outside. I'm looking forward to a great month!

december daily | 25!

Page 51Page 52
I decided on December 26th that I was going to finish my December Daily this year on the 25th. While I have been really enjoyed this "real time scrapping," I am creatively tapped with this album.

Completed album!
Besides, I can barely close the album as it is. Adding 6 more days would make it almost unmanageable.

I've got a few projects I am looking forward to in the new year (mostly paper and photo-related) and plan on sharing them as I start. Being eek! is more than just wearing clothes and I hope you continue to join me :)

Something about the few days after Christmas always makes me feel a bit blue. I think in all the anticipation and planning of the "day," we forget that there needs to be things to do the day after as well.

This year I did something completely frivolous and fun the day after Christmas. Can you guess what it is?

Thanks!

Over the last month I received 2 bloggy awards from
TellMeAboutYourselfAward[1]
Megan and

Tia, respectively.

So seven random things you never wanted to know about me:
1) I carry at least 2 cameras with me at all times, usually my SLR and a point-and-shoot. I think my new IPhone is going to be replaced the PAS as I only took 4 photos with it on this most recent trip and about 180 with the IPhone.

2) I love coffee from my French press. Since returning from India in March, I have
been addicted to drinking a big cup every morning before yoga practice.

3) I am an early bird by nature and rarely get anything productive done past 8 PM.

4) Laundry is a chore that I don't hate because it has a finite ending.

5) My nephews are my two newest loves.

6) Getting to really know me takes a long time, but once you are in, I will love you forever. Just don't piss me off. :)

7) I am and will always be a goofball at heart.

Week in photos

I was playing around with my 50-mm 1.8 lens this past week.

2011 08 22 photo
The hubs. He's a cutie! I love being out during the "golden hour" before sunset and would take more photos then if it weren't so damn hot!

2011 08 23 photo
Baby buddha. Another cutie. He is getting some teeth, which explains the constant drooly mouth.

2011 08 24 photo
My mom cooks this Chinese dish with dried mushrooms which translate from Mandarin into "wood ear." I just figured it was another random Asian-lost-in-translation thing, so imagine my surprise to find out that woodear mushrooms actually exist!

2011 08 25 photo
Nothing is more yummy that baby toes to me.

2011 08 26 photo
A selfie for another exciting Friday night.

2011 08 27 photo
The temperature at 8 pm on Saturday night was 105. Seriously. Everytime I step outside I feel like I am baking in an oven.

2011 08 28 photo
This photo cracks me up. What did we do before IPhones and Blackberrys? Oh yeah, actually talk to each other. Now we just text or post on Facebook.

I thought I lost the cuff I am wearing in this photo somewhere in Miami a couple weeks ago, but, as I was looking for my IPod the other day, I found the cuff in my carry on bag! I love when that happens.

Have you ever had a day when you woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Seems to have happened to me today and I can't seem to shake it. I have nothing particular to complain about, just not feeling it today. Here's to a better tomorrow.

Mid-year check in

I can't believe it's halfway through 2011. Seriously, I know I say this all the time, but where does the time go?

2011 02 ee post savasana
Here I am during my first week in India. Being there seems almost like a dream! Funny how fast and easy re-integrating can be. Even funnier that the sound of the Skype phone call I made to the hubs from Austin on Tuesday really reminded me of being away. Our relationship definitely would have been more strained were it not for the twice daily chats we made time for!

2011 06 ee post savasana
Look at me now! Unfortunately walking to practice is just not within the realm of possibility. The temperatures are definitely hotter here now than they were in India. My hair is getting longer and lighter! I still have the same silly post-savasana grin though. Practice does make a girl feel good.

Happy May! May is traditionally my favorite month of the year. The weather is gorgeous, the sun is shining, life is good. We have many celebrations to look forward to, like our anniversary, Memorial Day weekend with friends, and, of course, my birthday.

04.30.11
I am feeling a bit ambivalent about my upcoming birthday this year. I am putting a new number in front of my age and am quite in denial about the whole thing. I realize that it's just a number and while I don't feel or think that I look forty (! eep, there I said it...it's out there!), sometimes I wonder, does this mean my life is half over?

So excuse me if I am sounding especially precious right now. I am still coming to grips with the whole thing. I am also hoping that forty is the new twenty!
40 is the new 20!

A Swede in India on St. Paddy's Day

DSC_4054
Santosha is one of my favorite breakfast places by the shala. I think I come here at least 4-5 mornings out of the week, because of proximity to my house as well as tastiness of food.

2011 03 17 photo
Magnus served us some delicious cardamom cake at Santosha's this morning. They usually have a new baked good other every morning.

IMG_3575
Ellie got the requisite green drink and wore the requisite green shirt in honor of the day.

IMG_3578
I have dubbed Marika our "Julie Cruise Director," as she like to plan our social events, a.k.a. places we will be eating our meals.

IMG_3574
My girl China having her usual tofu scramble with multigrain toast plus butter and ragi chocolate pancakes!

IMG_3576
Magnus and Anne are quite a wonderful couple and run a very comfortable place to be at. Eating Western-style breakfasts helps to balance out the Indian food so I feel like I am getting the best of both worlds.

I feel like this week things are just clicking: my practice, my health, finding balance between being social and being alone, meeting some really good ashtangis. I am starting to understand why folks like to come here for more than one month.

Two weeks

I have officially been in India for two weeks now. So far I have experienced a myriad of emotions: joy, happiness, doubt, fear, loneliness, contentment, impatience, patience...all over the place! Overall I can see why yogis continue to return here...something about practicing in the shala with Sharath and photos of Guruji smiling on you, hearing all the other students around you pushing themselves, breathing with sound...the whole thing is just somthing special.

DSC_4054
I am currently blogging from Santosha's, a great breakfast place with free wi-fi. I think I will be uploading photos here in the morning from now on, instead of getting frustrated with my connection. I am enjoying some chai, fruit salad and banana carrot & beetroot bread with ghee. Delish!

IMG_3454
Yesterday I met some girls at an "Italian" restaurant and had some pizza!

IMG_3452IMG_3453
I haven't been craving Western food just yet, but I will admit, it was a nice change.

My practice

2011 02 15 photo

Today was my fourth practice at the shala. I can't begin to verbalize how different, how amazing, how alive it is here! Since I have a late start time (8 AM, which really means 7:45 AM because the shala clock is 15 minutes ahead), the room is nice and warm. The room almost feels alive because you can hear everyone breathing.

Before entering, you leave your shoes outside. This is customary for entering anyone's home in India. {My feet are going to be wrecked when I return!}

Sunday was led primary so no help for any poses (although someone did push me deeper into forward bend after backbends). On Monday I received help in Supta kurmasana and backbends, from his Western assistants, but yesterday and today Sharath himself helped me with my backbends. So he is officially my teacher here :)

This morning's practice was a bit trying as my nose was completely stuffed the whole time but it was still a practice in Mysore, India! Since Friday is a moon day we won't have practice and tomorrow will be Led instead of mysore. This practice is why I am here and I am doing my best to get everything I can out of it.

Week in photos

Last week I was less inspired for my daily photos...living out of a suitcase will do that to a girl.

2011 01 17 photo
Last Monday was the last time I hung out with the peanut and my sis. I miss them!

2011 01 18 photo
On Tuesday I went to dinner with my dear friend V, who moved to Austin last year. We split the Red Velvet cake for dessert :)

2011 01 19 photo
On Wednesday I practiced yoga with an instructor I met through my instructors in H-town.

2011 01 20 photo
On Thursday I had dinner with V, A and J. You can't tell from this photo, but poor J had just threw out his back and he was in a lot of pain all through the meal. Getting old sucks.

2011 01 21 photo
On Friday I came home to the hubs and these lovely tulips, my favorite flower!

2011 01 22 photo
On Saturday we enjoyed a French Wine dinner at Club Rue with our friends. I love how they humor me with goofy pics.

2011 01 23 photo
On Sunday I forgot to take a pic during the day so resorted to a random selfie of me at the hotel :)
