{Belated} Week in Photos

I am glad I take random photos everyday because I find that I forget what happens if I don't!

And we're off! Leaving on a jet plane to San Francisco!

C&K, the happy but nervous proud parents to be. I think I was one of 2 people at the shower who has known K since we were teenagers (ack - that doesn't seem that far away, but at the same time it does!).

Hanging out in SF. That big metal structure is part of a bow and arrow down by the Embarcadero.

D-Day is coming up on Friday so be warned if I sound more whiney that usual :)

I am feeling less guilty about being behind on daily posts this week since blogger was down for the past couple days. It's funny how a change in your schedule can make everything go wonky.

I wore this outfit on our anniversary date night last Saturday. We ate at The Slanted Door in San Francisco. If you are ever in the Bay Area, I highly recommend it. The food was absolutely delicious!

The whirlwind travel we did last weekend drained me a bit of my wardrobe inspiration so I am glad I have a backlog of cute outfits to share. Looks like there is no end in sight with the travel, as I will be back in Austin for work over the next 2 weeks and through June as well. Sigh. I guess things could be worse, right?

The trifecta

shoes: Ann Klein
earrings: Collingnon Designs, gift'd

I am bit behind on posting, as I have been living my life over the weekend and spent over 48 hours away from the computer! The hubs and I spent a fabulous weekend in the Bay Area and as soon as I return to the home computer, will be posting more photos.

I at least had the foresight to upload my outfit photos from last week. I thought I would finish my Liberty love by wearing the last item that I own from the line. I really adore all the prints and can see myself wearing them for a long time.

The thrill of the "hunt"

For our last (well, my last and Joe's first and last!) weekend in India, we decided to escape the stressful life of yoga and long lunches with a weekend safari :)

DSC_5404
We stayed at the Kabini River Lodge, at the suggestion of fellow Ashtangi Maria.

DSC_5394
The room was nice and spacious, complete with a Western toilet and a shower! It felt so luxurious to take a shower after 6 weeks of bucket baths.

The weather was beautiful.

So were the views.

We spent Friday afternoon and Saturday morning riding in the back of this vehicle.

DSC_5504
The roads were unbelievably bumpy, but I managed the requisite self-portrait.

DSC_5587
At Nagarahole National Park, we saw many different animals, including

...a sambar.

DSC_5442
...gorgeous peacocks.

DSC_5451
...an "I-forgot-the-name" eagle.

DSC_5472
...lots of spotted deer.

DSC_5495
...some Indian "bison," which is really the largest family of cow, as real bison are only found in America.

DSC_5557
...a few packs of wild boar. They look like they have mohawks.

...families of monkeys.

...and beautiful elephants.

But most of the time was spent waiting. On any safari, the most coveted animals to see are the big predators because they are so few and far between. The beauty of seeing animals in the "wild" (I use this term loosely because, really, is there any wilderness left anymore. A national park is just a glorified zoo without the fences. But I digress.) is that you never know when or where they will be seen. Which means sometimes they won't be seen.

We did catch a few glimpses of a leopard, but I think he was just out for a leisurely stroll. Some other people on another jeep were lucky enough to see the leopard in a tree and snapped some beautiful photos, but we didn't have such a good view. The national park is mostly a forest and the animals seem to hang out just inside the treeline, thus making it difficult to always see them. But part of the fun of the safari is the thrill of finding the animal, rather than just observing it from its cage in a zoo, which I really hate (digressing again).

DSC_5527
We really enjoyed exploring a different part of India. (Another pet peeve: why does everyone love to center their subjects in a photo. Rule of thirds people! Last digression, I promise.)

DSC_5356
I did try to follow the rules of the Lodge.

Week in photos

I thought it would be nice to recap my transition from the US to India. Because I am sure I will posting so many more photos, this will probably be my last "week in photos" until I return.

2011 02 07 photo
I spent every morning before yoga with the peanut and my sister. He's going through a shy phase, maybe because his molars are coming in and he's not feeling quite himself. Hopefully he won't completely forget me over the next 7 weeks. Tingaling, let's Skype!

2011 02 08 photo
On Tuesday I chopped off my hair. This has definitely made the bucket shower (more later) much easier!

2011 02 09 photo
Saying goodbye to my babes was the most difficult part of the trip. Luckily he will be here in about a month!

2010 02 10 photo
The time during my travel was a bit fuzzy. I took Luftansa from IAH to Frankfurt and Frankfurt to Bangalore. This photo is from the 2nd leg.

2011 02 11 photo
I am so accustomed to using my Amex to pay for things in the States that I almost never carry cash ("I have no money!"). Here in India everything is done in rupees. These are the shala fees, probably the most expensive part of the trip.

2011 02 12 photo
The fields along the way to the shala from Rachel's house.

Rickshaws! These are the most common methods of transportation for long-ish distances for people without a car or scooter.

Jet lag

my seat to Frankfurt
After spending the last few days traveling, this girl is tired!

Landed!
I am happy to report (again) that I made it safely to Mysore.

I took a brief nap while my friend was getting a massage, then she helped me go to the bank, get an Internet USB for my laptop, eat lunch, pay my driver, register for the shala, and walk around the city to get my bearings. We are actually in Gokulam, which is a more affluent suburb of Mysore. I haven't taken as many photos as I would like since I feel like the walking dead, but once I get adjusted you won't be able to stop me.

One for posterity

tank,cardi&jeans: Gap, remix'd
blazer: H&M
boots: Anthro, remix'd
sunnies: Dsquared, remix'd

This is the last outfit post from Houston. As I am typing this, I am waiting outside my friend's place while she comes back after yoga. Her husband gave me a key, but it doesn't work! This has been the only travel snafu of the last 24+ hours, so I can't complain.

pink ribbed cardi 01
Anyone who knows me knows pink is my signature color. Heck, even people who don't! The lady at the security check point saw my pink shirt, pink computer cover and case and commented that "pink must be your favorite color!"

I wish I had some photos of India to post, but seeing as I landed at 2 AM, there's nothing to see but dark building and a lot of dust. More to come later.

On the road

Just a quick hello. I am in Frankfurt right now, on my way to Bangalore!

I am still a little behind on outfit photos. This is what I wore on Monday, getting ready for my trip.

*********************************************
How do you pack for 7 weeks?
DSC_3996
All yoga clothes go on one side of the suitcase. I didn't pack my favorites because I figure they will pretty much be finished at the end of the trip.

DSC_3999
The rest of the stuff on the other. India is pretty conservative (i.e. no knees or shoulders) and the temperature during the day is going to be 90 degrees or higher where I am (but dry so that helps somewhat) so my typical summer attire of tanks and shorts isn't appropriate. I got some loose tees, blouses, capris and long skirts to get me by and I'm sure I will buy some local clothes while I am there.

DSC_4001
Add shoes, toiletries and some random extras and the suitcase is almost full. I haven't even packed up any of my "electronics," such as my laptop, camera, phone and Ipod and their respective chargers. Most of that stuff will come with me on my carry-on. I hope it all fits!

I have just over one week before leaving for India! Only 4 more work days. Woot! Looks like I will be experiencing a bit more winter before I leave...the snow up north has brought rain and cooler weather down here. Hope everyone stays warm and safe.

Two weeks!

mysore 01
In 2 weeks I will be boarding a plane to fly to Frankfurt, Germany and then to Bengaluru, India. From Bengaluru, I will take an approximately 3 hour cab ride to Mysore, India.

mysore 02
I wish I was going to learn under this man; unfortunately he passed away a few years ago, so I will be studying with his grandson.

mysore 03
Although Mysore is a relatively small city for India, it still has plenty of sights to see and things to do outside of yoga. I'm getting excited!
