The always adorable and fashionable Megan and Keely are hosting another fashion challenge this week, in which I will attempt to participate as best as I can. Layers can be tricky in the South, as sometimes the weather just doesn't allow for them, even in the dead of winter, so this will definitely be a challenge for me.

I really love these red wedges even though they are a bit tight. I am hoping they will stretch out after a bit of wear. The weekend seemed to have flown by and I still can't believe January is almost over! The hubs was out of town this weekend and I am ready to see him tonight :)

You would think that after taking near daily outfit photos I would be more comfortable in front of the camera. And I am, to an extent. Sometimes I just feel a bit narcissistic so I just try to get it over quickly with my few go-to poses.


But I also like to remind myself not to take it all so seriously.

Evidently I drank too much white wine at our friend's holiday party last night. I am hoping the Aleeve and cup of coffee I just ingested will speed along my recovery. I really need to drink more water before crashing into bed on nights like this.

Has this week felt interminable to anyone else? After going into the office everyday for the past 11 days, I am ready to enjoy every morsel out of this coming weekend. Please excuse the black strap on my arm. I ripped my cami some time yesterday morning but fortunately no major wardrobe malfunctions ensued.


I wanted to copy this outfit on Beck as soon as I saw it because I knew I had a very similar dress. Of course she has got a much cooler vibe, especially with her Docs, but that's what I love about getting inspiration from other bloggers: taking their look and making it into something that works for me. Thanks for the inspiration Beck!

I had every intention of wearing these heels yesterday until my feet got too tired, but when I started walking into work, my heels kept slipping out. I knew this would annoy me all day, so I immediately changed into my flats and bought some insoles for the pumps for their next wearing. Heels, however, photograph so much better than flats, in my opinion, that I had to keep these photos.


I imagine wearing this dress long after I have replaced the rest of my wardrobe. As long as I keep up with yoga I figure my arms will be in good enough shape to wear it for at least another 30 years!

Houston Fashion Week

Last night the hubs and I went to the first show of Houston Fashion week with a couple friends. This was the same event we attended last year. The collections we saw this year were much less inspiring and for some reasons I just couldn't get any good pictures so I gave up.

Pink and red items always seem to photograph extremely vibrantly, almost more bright than they really are. This cardi, however, is just as bright in person as it is in photos.


It is the perfect layering item for Houston weather.

I wore this to the most recent Project Runway party. It's my first attempt a real color blocking, although the orange top kind of looks pink here. I have been obsessed with Jil Sander's looks since seeing them this spring but have yet to attempt it myself. Baby steps, right?

Speaking of PR, this season looks super drama-filled. I love it. I also love the dress that won this week - I tried to find it on Amazon but they only had the maxi dress.


Every now and then something I buy from H&M is a real winner. This tee falls into that category.


And I am glad I finally paired these pants with something other than a neutral. More color remixing on the way!

So old it's new

I sometimes wish I took outfit photos back in the 80s and 90s just to see what I thought looked good back then! Some things I am sure would look completely dated, and some things, like this dress below would not.

I am quite sure that this dress is one the oldest articles in my wardrobe that I still wear on a consistent basis, especially since I started documenting my outfits. I mean, who really shops at Benetton these days? I remember why I bought it: to attend a wedding with my not-sure-if-I-should-call-him-boyfriend-now-husband, so I have a lot of fond memories associated with it. That was back in 1999! Now I feel old. :) Do you have any pieces of clothing that you especially love because of the memories tied with wearing it?


Even though the heat index here in H-town is around 110degrees, inside office buildings can feel like icebergs. So light layers can be useful.

This post really resonated with me and when I found that these girl's were doing another Dress Your Best challenge, I knew I wanted to participate.

I used to be envious of girls with long skinny legs. I am not one of those girls. I have calves that are bigger than most boys (except of course the hubs!) I know. But I have finally embrace my muscular calves. They have helped me finish 3 marathons and countless other races. They are most currently stretching more than they ever have and carrying me through my yoga practices. And for that I am thankful.

I love having longer days in the summer but I wonder if the extended light is making it more difficult for me to sleep at night. I usually love crawling in bed and falling asleep almost immediately but it hasn't been happening this week. That's why I forced myself to get up early this morning. Hopefully that will wear me out!

You probably can't even tell I went to my hair stylist yesterday! Actually, to be more specific, I went to my colorist. He evened out the color and got rid of my roots. My hair is still lighter than my natural color but I definitely prefer the caramel brown over the really light color. Since I want to grow out some of the layers, they suggested I be patient and wait a bit longer.

Finally, I wanted to try out the pencil skirt in a more casual fashion, to extend the wearability of said item. I think I succeeded, and it's actually more comfortable than a mini to me. (And I have cheated a little bit on the no-shopping thing. I went to Target last week and saw a few Calypso necklaces on sale so I couldn't resist.) Yeah for remixing!

{Hmmm, seems like I had a lot to say this morning. Maybe I just have a lot on my mind, which is why I can't sleep!}

I am glad to have to day off today after a long commute home! These picnic pants, as my sister calls them, just make me happy. I figure with all the colors in them, I am sure to be able to remix them in multiple ways over the next few weeks!

I wore this outfit on Friday evening on our way to Miami, as well as a version of it on our way home this morning (back in Texas today - boo!). I finally got a maxi skirt and I have to say, I am a major fan. Comfy, flattering and stylish...what's not to love.

We have returned to triple-digit temperatures here in H-town. Joe and I made the mistake of running right before lunch. Not the best idea in the world, but at least I sweat any remaining mojito out of my system. Happy Monday to you!

Breaking the rules for my birthday

Are 40-year-olds expected to dress a certain way? If so, I am sure I am breaking all sorts of fashion rules. My hemlines are above my knees, I love ruffles and color, and I have been known to wear 4-inch heels every now and again. I figure, if I still got it, I might as well flaunt it, right?


My sister has the most amazing foyer and stairwell at her house. Makes for some fun remix photos.

Yesterday I spent my birthday doing all the things that I love: running and practicing yoga with the hubs, eating some good Indian food for lunch, taking lots of photos and spending time with my sis and nephews.

This is what I wore to dinner with the hubs last night. This dress is an oldie but goodie. Again, drop-waist, ruffles, high heels...breaking all sorts of fashion "rules" here I am sure - but rules are meant to be broken, right?

This is the last outfit post from Houston. As I am typing this, I am waiting outside my friend's place while she comes back after yoga. Her husband gave me a key, but it doesn't work! This has been the only travel snafu of the last 24+ hours, so I can't complain.


Anyone who knows me knows pink is my signature color. Heck, even people who don't! The lady at the security check point saw my pink shirt, pink computer cover and case and commented that "pink must be your favorite color!"

I wish I had some photos of India to post, but seeing as I landed at 2 AM, there's nothing to see but dark building and a lot of dust. More to come later.

Today is Chinese New Year. It is the year of the Rabbit. My family is not big on celebrating. I think my parents are the most non-tradional Chinese parents around! At any rate, I wish you the best for the new year.


The hubs is leaving today to go skiing in Breckenridge (fingers crossed he makes it there in spite of the weather). Since we won't be spending V-day together this year, he gave a me couple gifts early. The earrings are simply gorgeous and the necklace is simply fun and makes me smile. I will probably be wearing it the whole time I am away.


H&M is known for its fast fashion, but I like when I find staples there that a fun, flattering and cheap! This sweater is a great layering item.

I wonder if it will snow today...
