weekend lens | Open your heart

Hoping it's really goo! #tgif
The weekend started off with more wine than usual, but we needed it. Too bad the Wine by Joe was only ok.

On Saturday we met S,P&T for dinner at Indika, a nearby Indian fusion restaurant. The food was better than I remember, which is always a good thing.

Glad we didn't stay until 5AM! #latergram
Later that evening we found ourselves at our yearly visit to SoBe, for Madonnarama. All Madonna, all night. Yes, please. And no, we did not stay until 5AM (those days are LONG over!).

I am not sure why S&I haven't been friends from before. I've known who she was for a long time but we have only started hanging out this last year. Besides the fact that she is drop-dead gorgeous, she's smart, funny and loves to dance. What's not to love!

Today I spent some time with some other girlfriends at the Earth Day festival by my place.

I actually danced in these platforms all evening on Saturday night and my feet weren't completely shot afterwards. That's a plus!

earrings: Tiffany's, gift'd

I left my little camera at home yesterday so was unable to take outfit photos until the end of the day. But I liked this outfit enough that I wanted to document it, so mr. flash had to be used. Notice the bare legs...the temperatures were in the 70s yesterday and probably today as well. Such is December in H-town!

a pop! of pink

I have enjoyed remixing my neutrals this week, but I really have been dying to wear some color, namely pink, of course. This velveteen blazer was an impulse purchase from the Armani Exchange store when we were in Las Vegas some years back and I am so glad I bought it.

And nothing makes for a better layering piece than a classic black and white striped tee.

I am in a bit of denial that Christmas is only 15 days away. Gotta get working on those gifts!

Sometimes the only thing that tells Houstonites of the changing seasons is the shorter days. When the sun goes down at 7 PM, all I feel like doing is crawling in bed and sleeping. I really need to make more of an effort to get out during lunch at work, if only to see the sun for a bit!

Think Pink

Happy October! This is the 2nd year I will be participating in Melissa's Blogging for Breast Cancer Awearness,or BBCA, challenge. The goal, for me, is to wear pink everyday in October. And, if you know me at all, you know this shouldn't be much of a challenge at all (although I have less pink in my closet than you might think!). My real challenge this month is to blog more real-time outfits. I think I was running a week behind!

Shhhh....I wore this exact same outfit 2 nights in a row, with 2 different groups of friends. I wanted to get some more wear out of this dress before I have to put it away.

Apparently this was a wear-Target-collaborations weekend. Before there was Missoni there were so many other amazing collections at the Targ, of which clothes I have amassed aplenty. YOu can't tell from this photo but the flowers in this dress have just a touch of light pink in them.

I am excited for the 5 weekend in October because even though I am working this morning, I have another weekend off coming up. Here's to a fabulous week.

Taking them for a test run

09.24.11
tank: UO, remix'd
jeans: Gap, remix'd
boots: Target
earrings: Francesca's, remix'd
cuff: Tiffany's, gift'd&remix'd

This is what I wore to see Erasure last weekend. What a fabulous concert! I will always be an 80s girl at heart.

09.24.11
I bought these boots on a whim from Target last month because I have been obsessed with getting a pair of "tough" booties ever since seeing them on the models on the All Saints website a couple years ago. I did not, however, want to drop almost $300 for a pair.

This pair from Tar-jay, while definitely not as cool as any from All Saints, will do the trick to satisfy my craving, especially at 10% of the price. We will see how long I wear them; maybe I will still want to be cool in my 50s!

Something new

08.31.11
all items remix'd except top
top, skirt, belt: Anthro
shoes: Seychelles
necklace: Francesca's
cuff: gift'd

I bought this top almost a month ago when I was debating buying this dress but this is my first time wearing it. Anthro makes the best knits - interesting colors and textures that are great for layering.

08.31.11
This is also my 2nd all-Anthro outfit this week. Yes I have an addiction, but I feed it very slowly, one sale piece at a time.

Pass the veggies please

6 months ago I touched down in India and stopped eating meat. At the time, it was a decision made because southern India is primarily vegetarian and, to me, any meat that would be served would probably be questionable. I didn't really miss it much so decided to continue when I returned home.

{The last piece of animal flesh I ate was some duck on the way to India. I was traveling business class so the food wasn't half bad.}

Many yogis are vegetarian or even vegan for numerous reasons; mine was more, I don't really need it, my practice seems to be fine or even better without it, and I think I feel better since cutting it out of my diet (i.e. I don't have that "I-can't-move-because-I-am-so-stuffed" feeling). Now, granted, I have never been a huge carnivore - those enormous chicken breasts you can buy at the grocery store completely gross me out - but we did eat quite a bit of fish. I also love almost every vegetable there is and tofu as well, so finding substitutes hasn't been difficult.

I don't think I could ever be completely vegan because I still love eggs, butter is in practically everything when you eat out and I wear leather shoes and carry leather bags. Will I continue this vegetarian thing the rest of my life? I think so, especially if I plan on practicing yoga the rest of my life. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Now onto more pressing matters :)

After the pattern mixing challenge, this outfit seems a little dull to me. I think I should have paired the top with the blue skirt I wore yesterday. THAT would be a fun mix!

08.11.11
I guess some days you will be more inspired than others.

Today is Friday but tomorrow is a working day for me, which is probably why I am not smiling in these photos. I hope you get a good weekend of rest!

Veinticuatro: A new twist on an old dress

07.09.11
all items remix'd
19 dress: Loft
16 sandals: BCBG
necklace: Francesca's

I am wearing my dress of the summer again. It's just the perfect material for hot and humid Texas summers (except that it wrinkles to death when I even just look at it funny).

07.09.11
This time I decided to make it a bit more fun and casual with bold jewelry and shoes. Everyone knows I love my big shoes :)

Calypso in action

Our hotel was just a few blocks from Versace's house so naturally I wanted to take an outfit photo in front!

Maxi dresses are definitely not the norm in South Beach. Most ladies were showing as much skin (and silicone!) as possible. That's never really been my thing, but to each her own, I suppose. Fortunately for me, the hubs thinks maxi dresses are sexy too :)

My new favorite travel outfit

06.03.11
top: H&M
tank: Lululemon
skirt: Old Navy
shoes: B. Makowsky, remix'd
hat: Target
necklace: Francesca's, remix'd

I wore this outfit on Friday evening on our way to Miami, as well as a version of it on our way home this morning (back in Texas today - boo!). I finally got a maxi skirt and I have to say, I am a major fan. Comfy, flattering and stylish...what's not to love.

We have returned to triple-digit temperatures here in H-town. Joe and I made the mistake of running right before lunch. Not the best idea in the world, but at least I sweat any remaining mojito out of my system. Happy Monday to you!

We had a pretty quiet weekend to start off the year. On Saturday night I went to Pinot's Palette with a bunch of girls and we ate some yummy food, drank a little wine and created our interpretation of Van Gogh's Starry Night.

So I made an executive decision last night when the temperatures were dropping in the 30s and 40s to switch out a t-shirt and tank to two sweaters instead. Since I hadn't yet worn those items, I figured I am still within my 30. Dressing for the fall can be tricky!

12.01.10
For some reason my lens focuses better when I am standing on the left (your right) than on the opposite side. Go figure.

2010 12 01 gratitude
For the last 3 years now, inspired by shimelle and Ali, I have kept a daily december scrapbook/journal to better appreciate the holiday season. This year, more than anything, I want to be thankful for what I have than what I don't have. For today, my theme is gratitude. I am so grateful to have gotten to see my baby nephew almost daily over his first year of life. He has been such a joy to our whole family! What are you grateful for?

Last night our PR party had a very special guest: Tracey, the HP sponsor who was on the show, was in attendance. Her hairdresser is one of friends. So the party was bigger than usual and I had to get a little more dolled up. I love this dress and didn't think to belt it until My Edit inspired me. This outfit is fun and makes me happy!

I am doing Mel's pink challenge this month. The goal is to wear pink everyday in October to bring awareness to breast cancer. Pink everyday? Yes please!

Weekend recap

2010 07 10 photoI spent the better half of the afternoon on Saturday driving home. Work wasn't busy at all which was good because of no stress, but bad because it made the morning go by that much slower! I was glad to be home with the hubs; we checked out a yummy Vietnamese restaurant for dinner.

On Sunday we did our usual morning run followed by yoga. My shoulder was hurting me last Monday and I was out of town so I took almost a week off from practicing. I think the break helped because I was almost back to normal yesterday and had an even better practice today.

We got some stuff done around the house too - painted our front door and trim, the window trim and some pillars. They look much better now!

After watching some of the tour, the hubs and I met some peeps out for an afternoon drink.

Catching up

I have a couple outfit that I failed to post since the computer crash. Luckily it wasn't a crash, just a dislodged video card that my IT dept was able to fix in a jiffy!

I wore this out to a friend's birthday dinner on Monday night.06.21.10top: J. Crew, remix'd
skirt: CK Bradley, borrowed from my sis
shoes: Enzo, remix'd
earrings: Francesca's, remix'd

In the April Anthropologie catalog was the cutest yellow polka dotted skirt by Leifsdottier, called the coming and going skirt. I love the ruffle details on it as well. I didn't love the $198 price tag. When I discovered this pink skirt in my sister's closet, I knew I found a great substitute. And best of all, it was free! {Let me know when you want it back ;)}

On Tuesday I actually wore a few new items to work.06.22.10shirt: NY&Co
tank: Gap, remix'd
pants: Gap, remix'd
shoes: Aldo
earrings: gift'd&remix'd
necklace: Loft, remix'd
belt: Gap

I know I said I wasn't shopping anymore, but with the hubs out of town, I was a bit bored. Gap was having an extra 25% off all sale items, so I picked up 4 belts all for under $10 each! And the cute button down was on sale for $12 so I got 3 different colors (I figured they would be worn quite a bit for work and would be a good light layering piece for the summer). The shoes were puchased a few weeks ago and I love them. I guess I should wear a skirt to show off the wedge/bootie aspect.

We'll see if I can get it together this morning to post a current OOTD...but I'm not making any promises :)
