working wardrobe | new shoes

01.10.13
sweater: J.Crew / pants: Gap / shoes: Urban Outfitters / scarf: NYC / cuff: gift'd
These days flats have been my go-too shoes for work, mostly out of comfort and necessity (better for yoga, etc. etc.). However, some of my pants require higher heels so I thought I would give these flatforms from Urban a try. They were on super sale so what did I have to lose?

black flatforms
I would give them a B. I love how they look and the height they give me, without a towering heel. But the comfort is only ok, mainly because my feet are a lot wider at the toe and narrow at the heel. I am keeping my fingers crossed they get more comfy because I really do hate giving up heels altogether!

Happy Friday! So looking forward to the weekend. :)

colored and neon bottoms

My grand plans to post on outfit everyday this week fell a bit to the wayside. I have been wearing outfits inspired by the challenge but didn't have a good opportunity to photograph them when working out of town.

One (dis)advantage to working in Dallas is that the mall is 1 minute from our office and when I had nothing to do I had to stop by, mainly to check out the H&M but also to check out the summer sales going on.

Untitled
Neimans was having a giant shoe sale and I fell in love with these Valentino kitten heels, but, as they still cost the amount of a plane ticket, I let them go. My Jeffrey Campbell bow heels are slightly reminiscent of these shoes anyways, although not quite as fabulous. Sigh.

Untitled
I did stock up on some practical items at VS.

Untitled
And almost didn't walk into J.Crew but I am glad I did because they were having an extra 30% off their sale items. I had been eyeing their neon pink pencil skirt but didn't want to drop $110, but at less then $30 each I came home with that one and a bright purple one. So my JC and VS purchases were still less than the cost of the shoes and I felt a bit less guilty shopping. These summer sales are killing me and my wallet...

Easy dressing

05.22.12
dress: Banana / shoes: Old Navy / sunnies&bag / Gucci

Some days, hell, most days, I don't want to think about what I am going to wear to work. And dresses make that easy.

dress: J. Crew / shoes: Tory Burch / sunnies&bag: Gucci / necklace: Loft

I did make an effort to accessorize a bit more yesterday, as well as wear my new flats!

Untitled
Neimans was offering a GC for every certain dollar amount you spend and since Revas rarely go on sale, I thought I would take advantage and treat myself for my birthday.

Untitled
They are a fun pattern and are neutral enough to pair with many things. For the first wearing they were also pretty comfortable. These days I am rarely wearing heels to work (because of yoga, but more on that later) so investing in good flats are a must. The two pair I wear the most are starting to fall apart so I figured it was time.

I think I paid about $25 for this dress at a consignment store, which I though was a bit pricey for a pre-worn garment, but I have been getting some good use out of it. I'm not sure how old the dress is, but J. Crew does make some good clothes!

weekend casual

My favorite parts of spring are the longer days and wearing bright fun colors!

I bought these oxfords at Old Navy for a song back in February, and they are coming in handy for the warmer months, especially since I am in dire need of a pedicure. No open toe shoes for me until this happens!

Not much to say today except that I am sad the weekend is over.

We attended the 40th bday party of a friend of ours on Saturday night.

Everyone had a great time and the party lasted into the wee hours of Sunday morning.

I really liked my outfit too, but only got a picture of my new booties. They are DV by Dolce Vita that I found at Ross for $20. I decided life is too short to live without sparkly platform booties and bought them. My legs were aching by the end of the night, but they were worth it!

This is what I wore to see Erasure last weekend. What a fabulous concert! I will always be an 80s girl at heart.

I bought these boots on a whim from Target last month because I have been obsessed with getting a pair of "tough" booties ever since seeing them on the models on the All Saints website a couple years ago. I did not, however, want to drop almost $300 for a pair.

This pair from Tar-jay, while definitely not as cool as any from All Saints, will do the trick to satisfy my craving, especially at 10% of the price. We will see how long I wear them; maybe I will still want to be cool in my 50s!

A bright alternative

07.18.11

dress: Loft
shoes: J. Crew
earrings: gift'd

I always seem to be at a loss for what to wear after doing the 30 remix challenge. Sometimes limiting your choices can make a decision much easier and having my entire closet to choose from was a bit overwhelming. I decided to take the easy route and wear a dress.

One thing I noticed is that I kept my footwear choices over the last 30 outfits fairly neutral: in the blacks, grays and browns. I definitely would like to get a pair of colorful flat sandals for the summer to spice things up a bit. I typically wear this dress with more neutral shoes but this bright coral pair is a fun alternative, I think.

Veintidós: I would wear these shoes everyday if I could

This summer I, like many of my fellow blogging fashionistas, have embraced shorts as a valid fashion statement. Of course I am trying to not wear them with only tees and tanks. To up their fashion ante, shorts have to be accessorized properly!

07.08.11
And what I think makes shorts more fashionable...fierce shoes, of course! If I didn't have to worry about my hamstrings getting too tight (heels are not the best for yoga practice) or tripping onto my face (5+ inch platforms can be difficult to navigate, depending on the terrain!), I would wear these everyday. They are surprisingly comfy and I love the way my legs look in them. Why is it that flat sandals are just not as appealing as massive heels?

As I mentioned before, when traveling for work I tend to get bored and shop more than usual. Put me in the middle of the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale and all hope is lost. I was patient and bought a pair of shoes that I have been eyeing for a few months.

Naturally you can't (or I can't) just buy one pair of shoes. I had to stop myself from buying a 3rd pair of shoes. And of course, I have a few pairs in my online shopping cart...once I get going it's hard to stop.

I think 5 years is a good time to replace shoes, no?

Like many bloggers, I am bringing a little spring into my winter wardrobe. My favorite part about living in Houston? Even the winter is fairly sunny and the temperatures don't get below 30-40 degrees (usually). It's cold enough to wear layers but not so cold you can't go outside.

New shoes!

Taryn Rose at ShopStyle
Since I have started wearing real clothes to the office, I have been on the search for some "grown up" shoes. I have always equated grown up with boring, but they don't necessariy have to be. I found these at DSW for an extra 30% off so apparently I saved $315.04. They are by Taryn Rose and feel super comfy, although I did have to size up to 38 for a good fit. Expect a remix photo to come soon!

{I even stayed in my monthly shopping budget with these. Although now I am wondering if I should exclude shoes. But then I would probably just go on shoe buying binges. So for now, shoes are included!}

new shoesI bought some new sandals. Gaby Sandal in bronze by B. Makowsky

Gaby sandalsThey are the bronze version of the Tangled Treasures sandals from Anthro.

Gaby sandalsOne of my exceptions to the no shopping rule for the next 30 days were if they went on sale. Well, they are still full price at Anthro but I found them on Endless for half the cost! So I bought a pair for my sister because I am nice like that :)

OOTD catch up

I had good intentions of taking outfit photos while on vacation. But life got in the way and I only ended up with one!

07.24.10dress: Loft, remix'd
shoes: Life Stride, remix'd

One thing I have realized while walking there and back again in NYC: comfortable shoes are key. And while tall heels and wedges make your legs look great, they will never be as comfortable and small heels and flats. I actually prefer a tiny heel or wedge over a completely flat shoe, but you get my meaning. So I think I am going to pull the trigger on the Anthro sandals I have been eyeing.

I have worn various permuations of both these outfits, but I still love them. Sometimes I don't like to think about what to wear (especially when I am getting back from vacay). I also love that many of my recent outfits have had "all items remix'd." I will admit I did a bit of damage at Uniqlo, but luckily the most pricey thing I purchased there was only $15! I also bought a dress from H&M at full price ($35) but it fit so well I couldn't resist. Many of these items will be seen on an outfit soon :)
