Recap (photo heavy)

There is nothing like H-town humidity at 5 AM to make a girl miss the nice cool temperatures in Maine! After my run this morning I was practically drenched in sweat!

Our 4th of July was spent on the water, catching fish and buying lobsters. But first we had to have some fun on the swing!Joe actually caught 2 mackeral this trip, the first time we have caught anything in a few years. We boated to a place called Allen's to buy our fresh lobster as well as enjoy a Haddick sandwich. (I think this is the first and only photo where Joe's dad is actually smiling - he was amused that I liked to take pictures of food and the what not, but I think he does not like to be in the photos himself!)(Hee hee, don't catch any crabs!)
We enjoyed the lobster dinner with Joe's aunt Jo and his nana. And we ended our evening with our traditional walk to the Point. We didn't see any fireworks because we were too tired to trek out to Freeport, but we heard them from the porch of the house!
Day 2 to come later!

Catching up

Whew! After getting up at 2 am Maine time, driving 2 hours to Boston (well, I didn't technically drive, but I was IN THE CAR), a 4 hour flight back to H-town and an 8 hour day at work (well, technically only 7.25 with a 1.5 hour lunch break with my li'l sis), I am one tired girl. I REALLY want to post photos of the long weekend so hopefully I will get off my lazy butt tomorrow. Tonight I just feel like sleeping!

Relaxing

The hubs and I are spending the 4th with his parents up in Brunswick, Maine. They actually live right on the water so the weather is nice and cool. We've been doing a lot of eating and catching up with his parents, as well as boating, running and napping. In fact, I think I am going to read a book in the hammock as soon as I finish. Photos to come later!

Halfway

Today marks the halfway point of the year! We always celebrate because it also marks the birth of my favorite boy in the whole wide world:
My goal this year has been to organize my life a bit better. I am definitely still working on it!
Yesterday was our 2nd craft Monday. We created on tag books! Here is Miss Tinger diligently working on hers:Hers turned out really cute - she's giving it to a friend as a belated bday gift.I made one documenting our Austin trip earlier this year. Mine was more simple but I still love how it turned out.So we are going to be alternating between paper crafts and fabrics every other week. Next time we will be making coasters and napkins. Yes, a bit dorky, but even more fun!

Good morning!

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. I skipped my morning run because my back is extremely sore. I can't figure out if it's from yoga or the increase in running miles. When my running shoes were stolen, the inserts I bought from my chiropractor were stolen as well and I think they may have been helping more than I realize, so I may get some more from them.

After yogi today we are having another craft Monday - today's theme is tag books! I love being creative and having someone to be creative with!

Eating

...so whenever I get a visit from my aunt dot, I invariably just want to eat. Even if I am not hungry, eating just makes me feel better. So now I must step away from the cashew butter (yum!).

Recap of Sat

On Saturday night a group of us threw a baby shower for our good friends, A+ J. They are expecting a baby boy in Sept!We also stopped by a friend of Joe's (Ironman Mark, who is going to Kona in October), who was celebrating his 40th bday, along with his partner and another friend. Together the 3 of them were celebrating 100 years of gay!I bought a new dress for the occasion. I am loving that maxi dresses are in style right now because they are easy to wear and make a bold statement.{Note that I am standing on an ottoman and am barely the same height as the boy I am posing with. He is a very sweet friend of one of the birthday boys who I met on my bday, unfortunately I can't remember his name!}
I have also decided to embrace my love for patterns and prints and to own it. Basic black can be so boring - I love color!

Craft Monday!

Today Tinger and I held our first ever craft Monday. We are doing this in an effort to make presents for people instead of buying things, use up our stash of scrapping, sewing and crafting supplies and enjoy some sisterly bonding time.I actually made 3 scrapbook pages for Tinger this afternoon (the morning was spent running a couple errands, organizing her photos and eating some lunch!).Ting was embroidering some napkins she is making for a friend of hers. I also received a cute giftie from TInger - I love the embroidered initials!{The fringe was not our idea, but I still love my initials and the hard work that she put into making it.} Next week we will be working on a mini-album for one of Tinger's friends. Ting has a lot of scrap crap (nothin' next to mine, but she also has card-making, sewing, embroidery as well as knitting crap. This was a great way to end a nice 3 day weekend!

Fun with photoshop

So my eyes are getting blurry and burning and it is after 1 am in the morning, WAY past my bedtime, yet I still cannot bring myself to go to bed. Why, you ask? Because I have found yet another hobby to become obsessed with...not just taking photos but using photoshop to edit them.
Here is a photo of yours truly SOOC (straight out of camera)Here's is my black and white edited version with microsoft digital image proHere is a black and white version using a free action from The Pioneer WomanA "lovely and etherial" action:A "fresh and colorful" actionAnd a "vintage" actionSubtle differences but I think they are very cool. I am really excited to learn more about photoshop. But now I really should go to bed!

The reason I don't bake...

well, there are multiple reasons. But the main reason is that Joe and I have no self control when it comes to food. That's why we never buy any "good" (i.e. bad-for-you) snacks - they just get eaten! So Ting made some yummy chocolate banana muffins yesterday at lunch. I brought 5 home with me and they are all gone! They were delish! In non-foodies news, Dad bought me photoshop CS3 from school and I just got it in the mail yesterday. I can't wait to play!
But now it's time for work - boo!

Too darn hot

Joe and I ran at Memorial Park this morning. I think I started sweating about 2 minutes into the run. The temperature is not actually that warm but it feels like the humidity is about 99.99%, so after just running 3 miles I was dripping sweat. I wish it would rain to make it feel less humid (although that only lasts a couple minutes after the rain stops and then back to the humidity again).

The moon and later the sun looked huge this morning when we woke up. I think it's secondary to the summer solstice. I am looking forward to Sat, the longest day of the year!

quick update

So my one reader was complaining that I haven't been update so I thought I would leave you a quick note. So I got into the NYC marathon which is in November. To get into better marathon shape I want to start to up my daily mileage. So far I have run 12 miles since Monday, which is pretty good for me. Joe says that you start losing weight when you run 30+ miles a week. I am ready for that time to come!

My other big thing is yoga. I have been trying to practice a bit more - usually 3-4 times per week. I'd like to try at least 5x but it's hard. Sometimes I just get tired! On the good note I am definitely getting better at drop backs and I am still loving it.

And the third big thing is SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!! My favorite show ever! I wish I could dance like those kids. My inspiration :)

Busy week

It's been a busy week filled with family fun (well, mostly family eating, but that is fun in my book!). Mom and Dad left early yesterday morning. Now that both of their children are here in H-town hopefully they will be visiting a bit more. I will post more pics after I go to yogi!

72 hours

The last 3 days off were pure bliss. I did a little bit of this and a little bit of that. And we ended by seeing them:Joe just bought tickets yesterday and they were close to the stage but just to the right so most of the photos I took were of the guitarist and the side of Robert's head. He sounded great and the played some cool obscure songs from old albums - my faves were Push from Head in the Door and How Beautiful you are from Kiss Me.
Because of the show we went to bed a couple hours past our bedtime and could not for the life of us get up to work out. Oh well, we'll get over it.
Mom and Dad are coming to town to help Tinger and Boom unpack this week. Yeah - can't wait to see them!

Uneventful

It's been an uneventful week, hence the lack of posts. I have also been not quite as motivated to take photos either. Just going thru a phase, I guess!
Yesterday was a yoga record for me - 6 days in a row! I was going to go today and tomorrow, but my back is screaming at me so I think I should rest.
The only other thing of note going on is that So You Think You Can Dance! (SYTYCD) just started a couple weeks ago. Tonight is Vegas night and the real show starts next week - I can't wait to watch!

Happy June!

Wow, we are already in June 2008! Where does the time go?!?!

I am starting the 2nd day of my 3 day weekend and am enjoying my 72 hours off to its fullest. Yesterday was spent working out in the mornning, catching up on Top Chef and Lost (!!) in the afternoon and watching SATC (LOVED it!) and eating yummy Indian food at Indika with Ken and Peg in the evening.

Today we are running and practicing yoga, going to the g-store and spending the afternoon and Kirt and Mike's pool - yeah for summer weather and water!

ETA: Unfortunately we didn't have any pool time today - our friends got called to work so we had to take a rain check. So I have been scrapbooking to my heart's content this afternoon. I am going to practice some photography later on.

Hump day

I'm glad it's already Wednesday and the weekend is just around the corner. It kind of sucked that I had to work last Sat but on the flip side, I get a 3 day weekend 2 weekends in a row - which I am very excited about.

Some great news - we got our tickets to see Madonna here in H-town come November! They are not front row or anything, but we didn't pay an arm and leg for them either. I will be looking forward to her show!
