Working on a Saturday is hard after being on vacation. My only consolation is that I get to play dress up and wear pretty things. So take that Saturday!

I have been thinking about it and thinking about it...I really just need to do it. Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge, that is.
I will be making an exception on the shopping ban because we are traveling to Maine next weekend and visiting the outlet mall up there, but otherwise I think I can keep my wallet closed.

OOTD catch up
I had good intentions of taking outfit photos while on vacation. But life got in the way and I only ended up with one!
dress: Loft, remix'd
shoes: Life Stride, remix'd
One thing I have realized while walking there and back again in NYC: comfortable shoes are key. And while tall heels and wedges make your legs look great, they will never be as comfortable and small heels and flats. I actually prefer a tiny heel or wedge over a completely flat shoe, but you get my meaning. So I think I am going to pull the trigger on the Anthro sandals I have been eyeing.
(sorry about the poor image quality; I didn't realize I was so blurry!)

I have worn various permuations of both these outfits, but I still love them. Sometimes I don't like to think about what to wear (especially when I am getting back from vacay). I also love that many of my recent outfits have had "all items remix'd." I will admit I did a bit of damage at Uniqlo, but luckily the most pricey thing I purchased there was only $15! I also bought a dress from H&M at full price ($35) but it fit so well I couldn't resist. Many of these items will be seen on an outfit soon :)

Things I want to remember
NYC is our favorite city in the world. We are lucky to have good friends who live there so we always have a place to stay. Every trip out there is different and memorable and last weekend was no exception. A few things I want to remember about this specific trip:1. B+J's fabulous apartment in the East Village. They are moving in a few weeks to a new pad in Williamsburg so we will have a new place to stay!
2. I love surprises!
3. My oldest friends are my dearest (and goofiest) friends.
4. Hands down, the best cupcakes ever.
5. She is beautiful.
6. I love Manhattan.
7. We clean up nicely.
8. S and V are the best!
9. Sunsets are always gorgeous.
10. Enjoying the sunsets with loved ones is even better.
11. We really should go to the beach more often.
12. I love my boys!

One of the reasons I have been good(-ish) about not shopping the past month is that we are headed to the Big Apple this weekend! We try to make it to NYC at least once a year and one of the things we always do is shop in Soho. Our favorite stores are Uniqlo and H&M because we don't have either here in Texas. So I can't wait for our vacation...to relax, to spend quality time with the hubs, to see old friends, to eat good food, and to shop, of course!

Our weekend in photos
We hosted a little party for a running club that we are sort of belong to (mainly Joe runs with the main guy and he asked us to have peeps over at our house.). I forgot to take photos during the party but did take one of the aftermath.
Needless to say, our Sunday was not the most productive (although I did manage to go to yoga after seeing a few patients in the morning). Crappy weather made it difficult to be motivated to leave the house in the afternoon.
So instead of trying to figure our what I wanted to wear, I decided to scrapbook instead! I forgot how much I like to play with paper, pictures and glue!
The rain did not, however, prevent us from getting some dessert at The Chocolate Bar.
Ice cream makes everything better :)

Random thoughts on a Saturday
*Yesterday was one of those days where I felt like a truck ran over me by the end of the day. Yoga helped a bit, a couple glasses of wine at dinner helped a bit and going to bed before 9 PM helped A LOT.
*My friends used to comment on how lucky I was to wear scrubs to work. I thought it was only ok. I am SO much happier now that I can dress up for work. I guess getting dressed is one of the joys in my life.
*Working on the weekends stinks. But I have accepted it as part of my job. Luckily looking pretty helps (see above comment).
*I love having short hair, especially in the summer.
*I really need some basic pumps for work, but they are just so boring to buy!
*I love wearing skirts and dresses in the summer - for work and play.
*I received about 5 mosquito bites while taking my remix photos this morning.
*I did a little shopping over the last few weeks. I returned the cutest blazer from Anthro because, as much as I loved it, I live in Houston, Texas and rarely wear jackets, even in the dead of winter. So I bought a dress instead :)dress: Loft
shoes: Talbot's, remix'd
earrings: James Avery, gift'd&remix'd

Really too humid

I almost wore a bright coral top from J. Crew that matches my new shoes perfectly, but decided it may be too much, so stuck to my original plan of a white shirt. Dea wore this exact skirt with a navy top, which I think looks divine, and will have to try soon!
Only 1 week before our vacation - can't wait!

Perfect pink patent peeptoes
So I decided to hold off buying either of the previously mentioned shoes for a few reasons: 1) the wedges that were on sale are no longer on sale and about $100 more now, 2) for some reason I think my feet are getting smaller and size 7 fits me better than size 7.5, which is what size those wedges were, 3) we are going to NYC next week (can't wait - we usually go in the fall so I am looking forward to a summer visit!) and I am sure I will find tons of things to buy when we go shopping our first day there and 4) I got these in the mail! They are the perfect patent pink peeptoes :) (They are actually a bit more coral than pink, but it sounds better.
I bought them from Shannon, almost new! The only signs of wear are on the sole and they fit like a dream. They will definitely be perfect for work or play (whereas the other two were definitely play only!).
As you can see, they are from J. Crew, but at a fraction of the retail cost. They also fit like a dream. So thanks for not wanting them anymore Shannon!
I normally get the heebie jeebies when I see used shoes at the thrift store, but barely worn pairs by a person who seems clean and, well, clean, are perfectly fine by me :)

Playing hookey, part deux
What are the odds that I would be called for jury duty twice in one year?!? The last time I was called was to the municipal court which apparently doesn't make you exempt from being summoned from the county court. So I went for my service, which consisted of sitting in the jury assembly hall from 8-11AM until they let us go. Sometimes I almost wish my number would be picked so I could see how the process actually works, but I also don't mind having the rest of the afternoon off!
This is what I wore.all items remix'd except belt
top+tank: Old Navy
pants+belt: Gap
shoes: Also
shades: Dsquared
bag: Tory Burch (I have had this tote for 2-3 years and have used it a lot, but this is its first appearance in a remix photo!)
I started the day off right with a healthy and delicious breakfast prepared by my own personal chef, a.k.a. the hubs. Don't you love the heart shaped eggs?
While I was waiting for the bus to take me home (the hubs was unavailable to chauffer me back although he was kind enough to drop me off!), I took some snaps of downtown. We used to hang out here a lot back in the day (probably almost 10 years ago!) but don't anymore. The light rail construction kind of put a damper on the businesses down here and by the time it was completed everyone found someplace else to go!

Texas in the middle of the summer is hot. Houston in the middle of the summer in humid. Heat + humidity = hard to get dressed! Wearing skirts actually helps keep me cool and still look a little cute :)
The hubs and I actually did a little shopping today and he bought more than me! We had an extra 30% off Gap coupon so I got a cute red striped tee I had been eyeing; I found a great hoodie for Joe which ended up being only $5 after the discount even though it was marked $24.99. I love when that happens!

Weekend recap
I spent the better half of the afternoon on Saturday driving home. Work wasn't busy at all which was good because of no stress, but bad because it made the morning go by that much slower! I was glad to be home with the hubs; we checked out a yummy Vietnamese restaurant for dinner.
On Sunday we did our usual morning run followed by yoga. My shoulder was hurting me last Monday and I was out of town so I took almost a week off from practicing. I think the break helped because I was almost back to normal yesterday and had an even better practice today.
We got some stuff done around the house too - painted our front door and trim, the window trim and some pillars. They look much better now!
After watching some of the tour, the hubs and I met some peeps out for an afternoon drink.
Us goofing off for a photo :)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Google Books
I finally read this book. It's a bit twisted but I really enjoyed it, which is why I had to finish it last night. I love to read but when I get engrossed in a book I usually can't put it down until I know how it ends. Now I want to see the movie!
