Today's outfit is a little less than inspired. I am working for a few hours this morning before driving back to H-town and the hubs and just wanted to be comfortable.

Have a great weekend :)

As I have been building my work wardrobe over the past few months, I have been trying to find pieces that I still enjoy wearing outside work as well. That said, I also have been trying to find "play" pieces that are work appropriate so I can get more mileage out of my wardrobe!

07.09.10I bought these sandals and my other flat bronze sandals randomly at Famous Footwear last year and can't believe how much mileage I have gotten out of them. As much as I adore wedges and killer heels, nothing beats the comfort of a flat sandal.
IMG_1248I met up with A and R, gfs from school, for drinks, sushi, and dessert last night. I loved catching up with them! A is building a pool to add to her already amazing house so we will be back in a month to enjoy it.

My parents left this morning to California, which allowed me to take some remix photos without them asking, "What are you doing?!?!" My mom reads my blog, but I would much rather pose in peace :)

They live right on a lake and it's so peaceful and quiet here. Their patio and the lake make for a perfect backdrop...too bad I am leaving tomorrow!

Rainy day

So a drizzly day makes it more difficult to take remix photos outside. But, as I mentioned before, my parents have lots of natural light in their house so indoor photos can be acceptable.

I really wanted to take part in kendi's 30 in 30 challenge this month, but with work travel and vacation travel coming up (to NYC no less so there's no way I can not shop!) I think I may postpone it until August. Or maybe September.

Find me

here!

New remix background

I prefer taking my OOTD photos outside because natural light just looks better to me. My parents have A LOT of light inside and outside their house, so finding light isn't a problem; finding a place to put my little point-and-shoot is (not in the mood to set up the tripod, maybe tomorrow!).

IMG_1211This one was ok, but I thought the fence was a bit boring.

I really wanted one with the lake in the background, but the contrast was too harsh and it was really too hot to be out in the sun any longer!

So I settled on this:07.07.10top: NY&Co

In record time

long commuteI woke up in the wee hours of the morning today to drive to the Metroplex for work. The drive was actually pretty easy since there was virtually no traffic leaviing H-town. I don't have to be at work until 9 so I drove to the parents house to hang out and blog :) before work! It was a long commute but it's nice to be home for a bit. Later!

Back on track

My schedule has been thrown off a bit this weekend with the family festivities and the what-not. Fortunately I actually had Monday AND today off, which has given me plenty of time to recover. I am driving to the Metroplex to work and stay with the 'rents, which is going to throw the schedule off again, but it's all good.

Yesterday the hubs and I were hanging out, doing our usual Monday thing. I went to see, embarrassingly enough, Eclipse with a friend...it was only ok. Some lines were amusing and the action was pretty good when there was action, but it dragged on for too long. The hubs would never be able to sit through 2 hours of that crap!

After the movie, I switched dates back to the hubs and we went out for some tapas.

Today I finally got my hair colored and cut! I decided to change from the red to a bit lighter...my summer 'do.

Wedding weekend

My parents come from very large Chinese families. My mom has 4 sisters and 1 brother, my dad has 5 sisters. We have family in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Texas, california, Japan and Taiwan. Needless to say, I have many cousins, whom I just adore, but do not see very often. One of my favorite cousins on my mom's side, Gumby (his nickname not real one!), married his longtime girlfriend A here in H-town over the holiday weekend.

The rehearsal dinner was held at at Chinese Seafood restaurant in Bellaire. The rain was pouring down but we managed to drive all of our out of town relatives to our destination safely.

Rehearsal dinnerHere are my parents with Mom's sisters, brothers and respective significant others.

Rehearsal dinnerMy sis with my gorgeous cousin Y, who is aspiring fashion designer living in NYC. She was wearing the most amazing shoes this weekend...I should have taken some outfit photos!

Rehearsal dinnerMy cousin Mei Mei with 2 of her 3 kids. They live in Japan and the kiddos don't speak a lick of English or Mandarin. We somehow managed to communicate with them by the end of the weekend.

Color me exhausted...

This weekend one of my cousins got married down here in H-town. Since my sister and I live here, she and her hubs acted as the hotel for our family while Joe and I were the taxi service. Between the rehearsal dinner, 2 breakfasts, the wedding service and the reception we spent A LOT of time with my crazy family. I loved every minute of it, but am so tired that I almost forgot today was the 4th of July. We just woke up from an hour long nap and I have a feeling we will be going to bed early today. So no real outfit photos for the weekend, although I have tons of wedding photos to edit! We'll be back to our regularly scheduled program tomorrow...(or maybe Tuesday).

Versatility

So continuing with my theme of clothes that can transition from work to play...

07.02.10all items remix'd
dress: Benetton
shoes: Ann Klein
jewelery: gift'd

I have mentioned that this dress is over 10 years old. I wore it to the first wedding the hubs and I ever attended together. I adore this dress (pink! flowers! layers! what's not to love?) and the hubs loves it more than any of my other dresses - go figure. Because of its modest length, I can wear this to work (a cardi definitely helps make it a bit more "professional"). I will also be wearing this tonight to my cousin's rehearsal dinner. Those photos will be posted later.

Have a fabulous 4th of July weekend. We are probably going to be getting rained on, so I hope it's sunnier wherever you are :)

OOTD (finally)

Since I have graduated from wearing scrubs to wearing regular clothes to work, I have been trying to incorporate my "casual" wardrobe into my "working" wardrobe. I want to wear clothes I like to work as well as to play!

This is what I wore to breakfast with my birthday boy. The Patrick Robinson line with Target has been one of my favorite collaborations (right behind the amazing Liberty of London patterns!). And I figured out that tucking in the tunic made it perfect to wear to work!

I am in serious need of a haircut. My hair doesn't necessarily grow that much longer but it gets that much fluffier! I have an appointment on Tuesday (we get that extra day off for the holiday instead of tomorrow)...can't come too soon!

Happy birthday baby!

39 years ago, this boy was brought into the world.

Remember how I mentioned that we gave the bassist for Jordin Sparks a ride back to his tour bus after yoga? Well, he came through on the tickets!

Jordin Sparks
Jordin Sparks
Jordin SparksHouse of Blues is a great venue for a show because it's just the right size.

Jordin SparksNow I am not a huge fan or anything, but I did predict she would win Idol when she was on.

Jordin SparksShe sounded and looked great and seemed super sweet. Apparently she will be performing in "In the Heights" on Broadway this fall.

Jordin SparksUnfortunately Jesse was in the back for most of the show so I didn't get a great shot of him. We didn't pick up our tickets at will call until a few minutes before Jordin was taking the stage. When we got there we found out we could have been to the Meet and Greet before the show! Too bad! Note to self: next time you make friends with someone in a band and they offer you tickets, get there early - you never know!
