The no-think pants
all items remix'd
top: Ann Taylor
pants: Gap
shoes: Geox
sunnies: Dsquared
earrings: Collingnon Designs, gift'd
These pants are my go-to when I just can't bear the thought of what to wear. They are comfortable and I can pretty much wear any top in my closest and feel put together enough for work. I wish I had them in all the colors of the rainbow!
TGIW! This has felt like another long week. But I am definitely looking forward to a 4-day holiday weekend (I have Tuesday off too..don't hate!).

No sleeves please
The buzz around the fashion/style blogosphere seems to be the upcoming fall season and fashion. Unfortunately here down south wearing layers is months away. I always crack up when I see sweaters and jackets on display at stores - I can hardly even think about wearing anything with sleeves right now!

This is another top I decided to wear after seeing Linda, a fellow Texan blogger, wear the dress version. It is another oldie but goodie:
Here I am wearing it during our trip to Ibiza back in 2008.
These shorts are not quite as old, purchased in 2009. I have been favoring shorter shorts this summer compared to last but bermudas are a good length when going to dinner so your thighs don't stick to the chair. :)

Week in photos
I was playing around with my 50-mm 1.8 lens this past week.
The hubs. He's a cutie! I love being out during the "golden hour" before sunset and would take more photos then if it weren't so damn hot!
Baby buddha. Another cutie. He is getting some teeth, which explains the constant drooly mouth.
My mom cooks this Chinese dish with dried mushrooms which translate from Mandarin into "wood ear." I just figured it was another random Asian-lost-in-translation thing, so imagine my surprise to find out that woodear mushrooms actually exist!
Nothing is more yummy that baby toes to me.
A selfie for another exciting Friday night.
The temperature at 8 pm on Saturday night was 105. Seriously. Everytime I step outside I feel like I am baking in an oven.
This photo cracks me up. What did we do before IPhones and Blackberrys? Oh yeah, actually talk to each other. Now we just text or post on Facebook.

A bit of color
all items remix'd
top: H&M
pants: Express
shoes: Via Spiga
earrings: gift'd
necklace: Collingnon Designs
assorted bangles: Calypso for Target, Tiffany's, Alexis Bittar
I wore this to the most recent Project Runway party. It's my first attempt a real color blocking, although the orange top kind of looks pink here. I have been obsessed with Jil Sander's looks since seeing them this spring but have yet to attempt it myself. Baby steps, right?
Speaking of PR, this season looks super drama-filled. I love it. I also love the dress that won this week - I tried to find it on Amazon but they only had the maxi dress.
Every now and then something I buy from H&M is a real winner. This tee falls into that category.
And I am glad I finally paired these pants with something other than a neutral. More color remixing on the way!

2 cups
One of the pitfalls of having tenants living above you is that sometimes they play their music way too loud, which really stinks when you have to work the next day! This does not bode well for my weekend work day. I'm thinking today is going to be a 2-coffee cup day.

One reason I love Anthropologie clothes is that many of the patterns can work well on their own without much accessorizing. This makes getting dressed on a lazy day much easier. {Note: I wore this outfit last week; today I will be wearing scrubs, which is the easiest of them all!}

all items remix'd
top: LoL for Target
pants: J. Crew
shoes: 9West
sunnies: Dsquared
earrings: Collingnon Designs, gift'd
belt: Gap
cuff: Tiffany's, gift'd
I was inspired by this outfit to wear this shirt that I so loved from last year. I really need...ok, want...some brightly colored bottoms (like turquoise or yellow) to go with them.
I am also looking forward to the new Missoni for Target line. And have you seen the September J.Crew catalog? I die. Sigh. Too many clothes, not enough time or money!

shoes: Aldo

belt: Anthro
cuff (unseen): Tiffany's, gift'd
I am a little brain dead this morning and at a loss for words. Shocking, I know. It must be the heat.
This skirt was one of my first purchases when I returned home from India. I love when Loft has those extra 40-50% off sale items :) I also love that almost any color can be worn with it and look good.

Easy dressing
all items remix'd except belt
dress: Loft
shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
earrings: gift'd
belt: Anthro

Sometimes wearing dresses almost seems like fashion cheating...they are so easy to style and wear! I need to get a close-up of the belt - its bow matches my shoes!
I acquired this dress last year and really love it. Now I am realizing I need to layer it up to wear during cooler months!

Another day, another outfit
all items remix'd
dress: Old Navy
shoes: B.Makowsky

One of the stops on our Saturday shopping trip was Anthro. They actually had multiples of the dress I tried on earlier in the week, but I decided my closet is too small to have 2 almost identical dresses. Maybe if it goes through a second cut...
I rediscovered my love for putting photos on paper with glue, much thanks to shimelle, one of my scrapping idols. I spent the better part of my weekend doing this instead of going to the stores to save 8.25% with tax-free weekend. And my overstuffed closet thanks me for it.
What kind of things do you do to reduce your shopping/spending urge?

Week in photos
I know I should be more creative with my daily photos, but being around babies just makes me want to capture them at that moment because it will be gone before you know it!
Baby buddha is growing so much more aware these days.
A photo from Baby buddha's perspective.
Baby buddha is now 5 months old! I swear he grows cuter everyday!
Project Runway night is a fabulous way to catch up with friends.
Baby buddha is also growing like a weed!
Hanging out. The hubs and I did a little shopping over the tax-free weekend, but, surprisingly didn't buy anything.
I resisted the urge to shop yesterday by playing with paper and glue - my other favorite hobby.

It's quiet around here.
The hubs and I are early birds - he likes to run before the humidity gets worse and I like to practice yoga in the morning. We may sleep in until 6:30-7 AM on the weekends, especially if I am not working, but that makes going out with friends and staying up late harder. I am definitely more productive in the mornings but not so much if my head aches from too much wine! Needless to say this sometimes makes us feel like we are old because we are not out partying like we used to, but I, for one, can live with that.

I wore this on Thursday for Project Runway night. I thought it would be fitting to wear something made by a PR winner. Leann was one of my favorites -I loved her final collection.
I am looking forward to another relaxing day. Funny how time goes by so fast when you are doing a whole lotta nothin'!

top: Geren Ford
jeans: True Religion
shoes: Pierre Hardy for Gap

bracelet: Chan Luu
bag: Louis Vuitton
When designer jeans were all the rage a few years back, I obsessed about buying some True Religions. I found these for a song at a sample sale during one of our NYC visits. They fit perfectly and make me feel long and skinny, which is what a good pair of jeans should do.
As much as I love skinny jeans, nothing is more flattering to me than a good pair of bootcut jeans. Especially for chicks with muscular thighs like myself!

Sometimes it pays to be a hoarder

top: Anthro
skirt: Nordstrom (old)
shoes: Ann Klein
sunnies: Dsquared
earrings&cuff: gift'd
bag: LV
I bought this skirt in 2005 to wear to a dear friend's wedding. I think I wore it exactly once. I never gave it away because it fit so well and had such a darling print, but I never knew when to wear it and the length was a bit odd...so I thought.
Fastforward 6 years later...with the Mad Men style revival, longer lengths and ladylike styles are more popular now. The skirt still fits perfectly, is lined and comfortable and matches a new top exactly! This is almost like having a new skirt without shelling out the cash.
Here I am at the aformentioned wedding, with my two besties from high school. We still see each other once a year even though we live on opposite ends of the country. And I could probably wear the same exact outfit today and be okay. Timeless style and timeless friends are always good things.
Happy Friday! I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend full of a whole lotta nothin'. And by nothin' I mean reading and catching up on my blogroll :)

{Insert clever title here}
I guess asking a group of like-minded ladies if I should buy an item of clothing is like asking a sweet tooth who is trying to lose weight if they want another tiny piece of dessert. It probably won't hurt, but do they really need it ;)? The dress is sold out online and if I make it back to our local Anthro any time soon I may buy it, but my heart won't be broken if they are out as well. I'm sure I will find another dress at some point in my life!

I had a difficult yoga practice yesterday morning. Doing all the dropbacks and backbending is really taking a toll on my back...even doing up-dogs in my sun salutations were difficult. I am hoping taking it a bit easier yesterday will help this morning. Two steps forward, one step back!

I kept thinking yesterday was Wednesday. This is definitely going to be a long week!

It's hard to believe that August is already half over. I try not to even wish for cooler weather until mid-September. We have not been getting a break from the heat and humidity at all this season. Our poor lawn is so sad and dry. After the movie on Sunday we got a sprinkling of rain, but it was just a tease. I am envious of all the bloggers up north who seem to be experiencing a taste of temperatures to come. At least us girls in the South still have lots of time to wear all the fun sundresses we bought this summer :)!

Week in photos
Things I want to remember from last week:
The $1 recession brownie at Barnaby's
That even though he is the big brother, he is still just a little one.
The two cutest little boys in the world.
Watching Project Runway is infinitely more fun with friends.
We love R&E.
I am lucky to have a hubs who will cook for me after a long day of work.
The Help is the best movie I have seen this year, hands down. Run, don't walk, to see it!

A skirt for all seasons
all items remix'd
top: Leann Marshall for Bluefly
skirt: Old Navy
shoes: 9West
necklace: Collingnon Designs,gift'd
bracelet: Chan Luu
bag: LV, gift'd
The hubs wanted to retake this photo because I "wasn't looking at the camera." I guess I need to work on my I-am-a-cool-fashion-blogger pose and look :)
I got this skirt in the Fall of '09 (thank you Gap and Old Navy for keeping track of when you make your clothes!) and it has proven to be very versatile, no matter what the temperatures outside. I like how these 2 photos demonstrate the changing of the seasons. We do have them here in Houston, some just last longer than others.

One of the highlights of our week is spending Thursday evenings with our peeps eating dinner and watching Project Runway. Our spreads are delicious - every one brings pretty veggie-friendly sides and there is plenty of food to go around. I need to remember to take a photo of the food next time!
This tee is well-loved but I haven't worn it in a while. My OCD tendencies help me keep track of what I've worn and reminds me of what I need to wear more often.
I love this skirt too because the ruffles aren't too flouncy and young. Loft was one of my favorite places to shop the last few years, but I haven't been inspired by them the most recent seasons. I feel like it's been-there-seen-that blah. Any stores been disappointing you lately (and don't even get me started on Gap, although I will probably go there when I need another pair of jeans!).
Happy Saturday to you. Unfortunately this is a working weekend for me (i.e. no rest for the weary), but again, I am counting my blessings and realizing being employed is better than not. And I won't feel guilty for shopping when I do ;).
