Still keeping it simple and still loving every little bit.

Since I count my week from Sunday to Saturday, the weekend gets broken up, so some "events" may seem repetitive. What I am learning to do is remember specific moments about our days, rather than  sweeping generalizations. And some days may have more memorable moments than others. (Like 2 big photos from our Project Runway night - one documenting everyone there and one because we also celebrated a friend's birthday that night.)

Taking photos everyday is pretty much just something I do now. I'm so happy I have a vehicle in which to showcase those everyday moments!

weekend update | another one bites the dust

We celebrated the 40th birthday of one of my dearest friends this weekend.


Marc is really one of our favorite people ever - just someone who makes your life better by being in it.


He is well-loved by everyone!

And my outfit was a hit. I can't tell you how much I love this dress - it's comfortable, flattering and so easy to wear. {I will confess that I changed my shoes halfway through the party. I can only sacrifice so much for fashion these days!}

I work almost every other weekend so by the time my weekend off rolls around (which starts tomorrow  - woot!), I am physically and mentally exhausted. Add watching the Olympics evening events to actually see the results instead of reading them on the Internet makes an even more tired girl.

I made a decision this morning to skip my regular yoga practice (I know, the days I don't want to practice are the days I should really go - but I am practicing tomorrow when I normally take off so I've got it covered) and sleep in (which is about 6 AM instead of my usual 4:30 AM). I did do some cardio and now I am feeling ready to face this last day of the work week.


This bumper sticker made me smile yesterday. Will be my motto for the weekend!

Hello, August

Summer is definitely in full swing where I live as the temps flirt with triple digits. One thing I truly miss about being in school is summer break and vacation. Luckily we do have a big one planned at the end of the month, so still have something to look forward to.


This skirt has been surprisingly versatile in terms of what colors can be worn with it. I went matchy-matchy this time around, but I also like the contrast of darker colors.

This weekend was spent working, scrapping and watching the Olympics. Although I was not uber-impressed with Danny Boyle's opening ceremony, I did love seeing the athletes from all over the world (and from countries I didn't even know existed) entering the stadium. So far, my favorite event to watch is swimming. As much as I think Michael Phelps is an incredible athlete, Ryan Lochte deserves his time now.

More often than not these days I have been wearing more flats than heels to work. Don't get me wrong - I still think heels make my legs look leaner and stronger and just flatter all around, but what I hate is that they tighten up the muscles in my legs.  90% of what I do or don't do lately is focused on how it will affect my yoga practice. And if wearing flats makes achieving my poses easier, than so be it.

Now I haven't gone as far as gotten rid of all the heels/platforms/wedges in my shoe wardrobe (that would be just crazy talk), but I am definitely wearing them fewer and farther in between. Sigh. Comfort before style - I am getting old!


I miss colder weather because flat tall boots are always stylish.

A bit restless

For some reason our little vacation over the weekend has thrown off our schedule more than usual this week. Normally I have no trouble falling and staying asleep but we've just been restless the past few nights.


Good thing my closet is like Garanimals and everything can be mixed and matched for easy wardrobe remixing!

weekend update | on the lake

We took a quick trip up to Lake Livingston with some friends over the weekend.


The drive up is actually fairly scenic for Texas.


We stayed at our friend EJ's lake house.


Being in the water is a great way to escape the summer heat.


Good food and good friends are always a great way to spend the weekend.


A storm blew through on Saturday night with 70mph winds. Unfortunately one of EJ's friends boats and jet skis got destroyed because of the storm. Fortunately he had insurance to cover it. Which makes me glad to know generous friends who own lake houses but not to own one myself - they are a lot of work!

On days I don't want to think about what to wear, my ever-growing collection of dresses comes in handy.  I've been pretty tired this week so comfort has been key as well.


I fell in love with this one a couple years ago and am happy to say I still love it.

Is anyone as happy as I am it's finally Friday?! I took the afternoon off for an extra-long, well-deserved weekend on the lake. Happy weekend to you!

Last night we saw "Shut up and play the hits," a documentary about LCD Soundsystem's last concert in Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately we never saw them live and now I kind of regret that. {BTW, the movie has nothing to do with this outfit, which was worn almost 2 weeks ago, except that both, to more are little adventures - doing something other than watching TV on a school night as well as paring turquoise with something other than black or brown).


I have been trying to be more adventurous with color lately - I love the color blocking from the last year. Two brights are always better than one!

good friends

Last night we had dinner with my dear friend V. Nothing beats catching up over wine and pizza! He lives in Austin and we don't see him nearly enough.


We have known each other since the 8th grade, which seems like such a long time ago. Although we have made many good friends in the last decade here in Houston, there's something to be said about having friends who knew you way back when.
