I am back in Austin tonight. Got one more day of work here tomorrow and back home tomorrow night. The drive to Austin wasn't so bad; it's always driving home that seems to take forever. Probably because I'm just ready to get home!

Being away from the hubs this week made me realize that the hardest part about traveling to India for almost 2 months will be being away from the hubs! Skype will make things easier, but still. In the grand scheme of things, 7 weeks really isn't all that long (that's what I keep telling myself).

I went a little crazy past week as far as shopping goes. This skirt was part of my Old Navy gingham shirt haul and I just realized I have one in the almost identical color. But this one had pockets! And was only $7! I also stopped by Old Navy by my work in Austin. They, too, were having an extra 40% off clearance. Their clearance section was by far the largest and most organized I have ever seen. The 9 items I bought added up to about $40, but with the random gift cards I found in my wallet, I didn't spend a dime.


I bought this sweater coat at Old Navy about a year and a half ago, again for 40% off clearance. It's gotten some pretty good use for $6.

Yes, I pretty much wore this exact same outfit on Wednesday, just swapped out the top and a clean pair of tights. Please excuse the tired face and cowlicked hair - I am tired of living out of my suitcase this week and ready to get back home to the hubs!

Thanks for your kind words on the mess that was my look yesterday. I am usually a pretty good judge at what clothing flatters me but clearly traveling has impaired my judgement. I'm hoping to get finished a bit early and on the road again this evening. Here's to a good Friday and even better weekend!

This outfit works better in theory than in practice. I'm not sure why but these pants are making my legs look shorter and stumpier than normal. I'm wondering if it's time to find a more flattering pair of gray dress pants.


This cardi has been a workhorse in my wardrobe for the past couple years. I love that it can be dressed up or down. It was a staple in my fall 30-for-30 this year.

I've decided to sit out Kendi's Winter 30-for-30 this time around even though it may be helpful when packing for India. I'm just thinking my outfits are going to be more about comfort than style over there!

For ease of packing, pretty much everything I am wearing this week is a version of this: top, cardi, bottom and shoes. I didn't bring any different jewelery or accessories either; just too lazy!


Since I started reading and following style blogs of normal but stylish chicas, I have been addicted to cardigans. Good thing they are versatile!

Updating my progress

Last week I got a couple vaccinations in order to prepare for my trip. Nothing is technically required when visiting India, but I updated my typhoid and started the HepA&B series. I received a tetanus shot a couple years ago when I split my shin open in Ibiza, but that's old news.

As I prepare for my practice in Mysore, I am doing as much yoga as possible. Starting back up at work has made it a bit difficult to practice 6 days a week but I am usually at least getting in 5. I will occasionally do some cardio as well, but I've stopped running altogether. My last big race was the Houston Half-Marathon last year and since then the longest I have run is about 5 miles. Since running tightens the muscles, I prefer to lay off so I can get the most out of my yoga practice.

Please excuse the tired face. I woke up at 4 AM to drive to Austin by 8 AM this morning. The day was busy but not crazy and I think I have enough energy for yoga tonight.


I really love these pants and have worn them endlessly. I'm thinking I should try to be more creative with my shoe choices, but I guess this is just my comfort look for work.

I have been enjoying this Monday off, after working over the weekend. I am also glad the sun came out this afternoon. Sometimes gloomy weather can contribute to a gloomy mood, without you even realizing it.

Blue Valentine

For today's rainy day, we watched an appropriate movie: Blue Valentine. I have mixed feeling about this flick. I heard great things about it, and I thought the acting was pretty good, but the content was very depressing. The movie was also very character-driven, rather than plot-driven. Needless to say, the hubs gave it a thumbs down.

This gingham shirt was one of my purchases from Monday. I have been obsessed with acquiring one of my own, especially seeing kendi and tania remix theirs endlessly, but I didn't want to drop the $$ for one from J. Crew. For about $7 on sale at Old Navy, I bought 2! I bought this cardi on supersale this last March, but it got too warm for me to wear it. I like having new clothes to wear without spending any more money :)


And although I was complaining about how I haven't been inspired by the Gap lately (although today's outfit wouldn't demonstrate that), I can honestly say I love the fit of their different types of jeans. I'm sure these were purchased on supersale too.

I really love the two pair of high boots I got this season. I have a feeling I will be wearing them a lot this month. I like wearing skirts and the boots definitely add a warm factor. This is the first real winter since 2003 I have worn clothes other than scrubs to work so I am going to find any excuse to wear the boots!


This yellow cardi has been surprisingly versatile. I've worn it quite a few times in the past couple months.

I went to Old Navy with the intention of looking for some loose-fitting, modest, summery clothes for India. Instead, I came home with two long-sleeved shirts and two short skirts (yes, they are the same style, different colors). Fortunately they were an extra 40% and paid with a gift card. I also returned some impulse online purchases from Target. So I actually came out ahead today!

I bought all these Gap basics over the last few years. I am not sure why Gap hasn't been inspiring me lately.

This week is going to be our week of winter this year. Highs in 40s, lows in 20s-30s. Makes me want to hibernate! Unfortunately, that's not an option. So I guess I need to get out some more warm sweaters!

We had a pretty quiet weekend to start off the year. On Saturday night I went to Pinot's Palette with a bunch of girls and we ate some yummy food, drank a little wine and created our interpretation of Van Gogh's Starry Night.

I really enjoyed painting and found it to be very therapeutic.

I have had these jeans forever. I love their soft, broken-in feel.

I am glad to be off today. Its nice to slowly ease back into working life!
