Shhhh!!!

I have probably been talking about it more than normal, but I blame my husband and sister who started my birthday celebration two weeks early with the surprise party!Today is the ACTUAL day that I turn a year older (I try not to think about this part too much! I am going to relish this last year of my 30s!)

As a birthday gift to myself, I stopped by Anthropologie yesterday to check out their sale and use my birthday discount! I tried on multiple items, but what I was really looking for were some summery tops for work. Some really great cardis were on sale but with the H-town heat and humidity, they just wouldn't be practical.

This morning, after a sweaty 5 mile run (and 8 miles for the hubs), I got to relax while the hubs prepared a yummy breakfast.

This top makes me feel young and happy. Not sure how "professional" it is, but since I throw on a lab coat over everything I wear at work, it'll do.

My doc helped stretched out my neck yesterday so it is feeling much better, but I think I am going to take a break from yoga today to give it some more rest. One more day before I turn a year closer to 40...aacckk!

I got a new camera lens! It's a Nikkor 35mm f/2D. Similar to the 50mm lens I have but with a wider angle to get better snaps. I enjoy using fixed distance lenses on my camera because they get much sharper photos, but zoom lenses are easier for general photos. But my goal for the rest of this month into June (where I am the official photog for my buddy's 40th bday party) I want to practice with this new baby!

Speaking of babies, apparently the little peanut was not sleeping well for his mama the last night.
But that's why babies are so cute: you can't stay mad at them for long!

Seriously, it's in the 90s here in H-town. And it's only May! I'm sure I complain about this every year, but dear lord it's warm! The kind of heat that sucks all the energy out of you. I even took a nap yesterday afternoon, and I never nap!
I forgot to snap a pic of my out-of-town friend and myself yesterday when we were all made up and cute, but this one will suffice! We had lunch at Paulie's and some fro-yo at Swirl. I am glad I have Mondays off so I could spend more time with her before she leaves tomorrow!

In other, non-clothes or -friend related news, my neck, for some reason, has decided to stiffen up on me so I can barely turn my head. Ugh, getting older is for the birds! Luckily I have a dr's appointment today so I am hoping he can fix me, at least a little! Hopefully I will be caught up with remix photos by this evening, until then we will be 1 day behind.

In keeping up with my sundress Sunday for the summer, I wore a new-ish dress that I adore. I am trying to find different ways to style it, some any suggestions would be welcome.

I ordered the beef udon, which was delicious! Unfortunately I ate too much, got tired and stopped taking any more photos the rest of the day ;)!

We ended up going to a pool party for a bit, then Joe and I came home. I was still pretty tired from the night before so we called it an early night. But I will admit, for a working weekend the past 2 days weren't so bad!

Prom night!

One of my yogi buddies hosted an underwater-themed prom party last night. The dress was as outrageous as you wanted to be. So naturally Joe and I channeled our inner-80s. Mom actually brought down some old dresses of mine from home, and my first formal dress, that I wore to Homecoming in 1987 still fit! I was channeling my inner 80s Madonna with the big bow and lace.

I wish Gap made these pants in more colors than black and khaki. I love the fit and would buy all colors of the rainbow!

Highlights

The highlights of my workday are not what I am actually wearing but that I get to visit my little peanut.
He really is growing like a weed and developing his own little personality! My favorite thing to do is find him in his crib after he has woken up from a nap. His smile just melts my heart!

I love this expression on his face - his look of concern, like "who are these crazy ladies and why are they always pointing this rectangular thing in my face?!?"

My best features were given to me by my parents: lots of dark hair, muscular legs, tallish frame (especially for an Asian!) and especially my skin. I love its tone and softness :)

Dressing my best: my athletic frame

Growing up I always has two left feet and my hand-to-eye coordination was never very accurate. So I never played any team sports. And when running track I was always the one who won awards for best effort, while my baby sister was always VIP. So I have never really thought of myself as an athlete.

Fastforward more years than I can to admit: now the hubs and I are the "athletic couple" of our group of friends. I still have two left feet and my hand-to-eye coordiation is still not very accurate. But I have found something that really suits me: yoga! Ashtanga yoga, to be more specific. I have been practicing for over 5 years from now and can really tell a difference in my flexibility and strength.

I feel like I stand taller and clothes even fit better. I don't think of myself as skinny, but I do think of myself as athletic and am proud of the body I have worked so hard at.

Can you believe I have had this dress for over 10 years! I wore it to the first wedding Joe and I attended together, when he asked if he was my boyfriend :). I still adore it and hope to keep it forever!

In keeping with my spring/summer dress code, I wore a simple dress to attend another birthday party on Sunday. I adore these new coral hoop earrings and wanted to show them off! I guess I am also showing off my muscular legs with this minidress!

For work today I thought I would show off my long neck :) I think the neck/clavicle area is a very sexy part of any woman, which is also why I like to wear my hair short!

The best birthday ever

I think I just spent the past two days simply recovering from the party Saturday night. I wasn't even hungover, just so emotionally spent. I kind of feel like I did after our wedding - so happy that I just can't stop thinking about the night!

Apparently it's been 4+ months in the making! Tingaling came up with the original idea to Joe and after much brainstorming they decided on a party to end all parties at T's house. ALL my friends and family were in on the secret, which explains why no one has been calling for the past month - I thought we were being anti-social, but apparently everyone was afraid they would spill the beans!

I guess I am completely gullible, but I am so glad, because otherwise there would not have been a surprise! We have over 300 photos from the event, but I will only post a few :)

All told about 60 people attended the party. This is the last photo we took. Obviously it was impossible to get one with everyone in it, but this is a good example. I am still reeling and maintain I am the luckiest girl in the world! And guess what, it's not even my birthday yet ;)!

amazed. blessed. unbelievely lucky. so so so happy. and even a bit exhausted.

I cannot express how I am feeling today. Last night my friend M was taking me to a party at Lynn Wyatt's house. To make a long story short, he told me a friend of his got invited and that friend wanted us to come as well. Being a trusting friend and never one to turn down the possibility of meeting Bon Jovi (who he said was rumored to be there), I accepted with great pleasure. We were planning on meeting at my sister's for drinks prior to the party.

Imagine my surprise when we showed up at my sister's house and 90% of the people that I adore in my life being there, including BK, one of my besties from high school! It took a few minutes to register than 1) everyone was here for me! 2)no we weren't meeting Bon Jovi and 3) there was no other party! I don't think I stopped smiling for at least an hour after the surprise. And I know I have never felt more loved :)

I don't think I snapped a single photo last night - my dear hubs and friends took over that job. Everyone was dressed in pink! We had tons of food and even a photo booth!

Of course I snapped a remix photo prior to leaving for the party. I bought this dress at the outlet mall last month and love it! The shoes were from last year, my absolute favorite pair ever! And the Stormy Seas necklace from Anthro was the huge hit of the night.

And as much as I love looking fabulous and having new clothes, nothing, nothing can replace the wonderful people I call my family and friends. And that's all I ever want for my birthday.

Shedding tears

*WARNING: LOST SPOILER ALERT (if you have not watched this week's episode: The Candidate)

My favorite show EVER hands down is LOST. Don't get me wrong, I adore Friends and could watch back to back to back episodes any night and SITC comes a close second. But for plot, dialogue, action, character development, Lost is it for me. I watched from the pilot episode (mainly because I think Matthew Fox is hot!) until the most recent episdoe, which I just caught up on this afternoon.

I am upset that I only have 3.5 hours left of this show and am savoring every moment I can. With that, I have to acknowedege the loss of some of my favorite characters of the show.Sayid! Sadly, he lost his soul this season, but redeemed himself at the end.

Jin and Sun! I was bawling by the end of the episode.

Unfortunately nothing is going to replace this series, but I am glad they are ending it with a bang.
