This outfit was totally inspired by a kind commenter. I love the stark contrast between the black and white. Maybe next time I will add some brightly colored shoes!

Is it weird that I am getting excited about the next 30-for-30? I have already started pulling out my pieces.

Last night we fell asleep around 9 PM and woke up this morning at 5:30AM. And that sounded better than anything else we could have done. We are taking a quick road trip to San Antonio this afternoon for a wedding. I'm just happy I'll get to dress up ;)! Any plans for your weekend?

I used to think I could never wear yellow because it made my skin look weird. I think I was wrong, although this is still the only real yellow piece of clothing I own. I'm thinking I need a yellow polka dot bikini.


I've only recently started mixing and matching more unusual colors and patterns together. Being inspired by so many cool fashion bloggers out there certainly helps.

I am so glad it's Friday...been a long work week and I need another vacation!

{P.S. Blogger is doing that weird thing again by kicking me out every time I leave my dashboard so commenting may be problematic this morning. So annoying!}

I didn't realize most of what I wore here was from J. Crew until I wrote it all out. None of them were obtained at the same time because I don't buy "outfits," I just buy pretty things that I like; fortunately this method works for me because, look ma, everything matches!

I realize I am committing a major faux pas by wearing ankle strap shoes with short pants, but I don't mind. I will never have mile long model-esque legs so I wear with what sings to me that day.


I am starting to learn that even brown dotted tops can be a neutral base and match almost anything. This top is great for all seasons.

Calypso in action

Maxi dresses are definitely not the norm in South Beach. Most ladies were showing as much skin (and silicone!) as possible. That's never really been my thing, but to each her own, I suppose. Fortunately for me, the hubs thinks maxi dresses are sexy too :)

I wore this outfit on Friday evening on our way to Miami, as well as a version of it on our way home this morning (back in Texas today - boo!). I finally got a maxi skirt and I have to say, I am a major fan. Comfy, flattering and stylish...what's not to love.

We have returned to triple-digit temperatures here in H-town. Joe and I made the mistake of running right before lunch. Not the best idea in the world, but at least I sweat any remaining mojito out of my system. Happy Monday to you!

Thank goodness for easy summer dresses. They make getting dressed in the 100-degree heat a bit more bearable.

I am posting this from the rooftop pool deck at our hotel in South Beach Miami! The hubs and I are doing reconnaissance for his upcoming birthday trip in July. We have a few things on our agenda, but lots of beach and pool-time are number one. More photos to come...

Happy birthday to you!

I am celebrating another year with my baby sister.


Even though we are 5 years apart, we have always been close.


There's just something special about knowing someone your entire life.


Sharing so many experiences together has brought us even closer.


Now that she's a mommy (and a most excellent one at that!) we take more photos of the kiddos than of each other or with each other. I need to rectify that this year!


I am so lucky that my sis is also my best friend and doubly lucky that she and her family live 5 minutes away! Happy birthday Tingaling!

Tingaling! I guess if 40 is the new 20, than 35 must be the new 15 ;)!

This is what I wore to work yesterday, my last day in Austin. I am happy to be at home this morning. I am even happier to have the day off!


These are probably my favorite pair of pants ever. They are so comfortable and Audrey Hepburn-esque. They are definitely my go-to when I don't feel like thinking about what to wear. I should have bought 2 pairs because I will be very sad when they start to fade!

These are the other pair of new pretties I scored last week at the Nordstrom sale. I was tempted to buy them in other colors but I'm glad I haven't because they do pinch my toesies a bit. Hopefully they will get broken in soon!

Today is my last work day out of town for 2 weeks. I am so ready to be at home and sleep in my own bed!


I adore this top that I bought in May last year from Anthro. I don't know, the offerings this season just haven't been as inspiring to me. Or maybe I already have enough stuff? Nah, that's never possible ;)!

Last Monday was the last day I saw the peanut and his little brother. That's the worst part about working away from home!


One good thing about staying at a hotel is hanging out by the pool after work.

As I mentioned before, when traveling for work I tend to get bored and shop more than usual. Put me in the middle of the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale and all hope is lost. I was patient and bought a pair of shoes that I have been eyeing for a few months.


Naturally you can't (or I can't) just buy one pair of shoes. I had to stop myself from buying a 3rd pair of shoes. And of course, I have a few pairs in my online shopping cart...once I get going it's hard to stop.

When traveling for work, I spend more time on the computer reading blogs, especially my favorite style blogs. Then I start missing all the pretty clothes in my closet and have to do my best not to shop. So for my next work trip I need to not be so lazy and bring something more fun to wear (even though I really love this shirt).

{Belated} Week in Photos, part III

I am not sure how Thursday crept on me like it did, but here it is! Last week was a busy one!


Finding a wonderful place to practice in Austin has made all the difference in the world in my attitude about traveling for work.


Eating some yummy "upscale" Indian food didn't hurt either.


Luckily the drive only takes 2.5 hours when the traffic is light.


Hanging out with the hubs. We walked to the grocery store...trying to act like we live in NYC, I guess. We also love this giant tree in our neighborhood.


The little buddha celebrated his 2 month birthday last week!

Traveling for work can be a pain, especially when deciding what to wear. My outfits the next week and a half will be a bit basic and boring because I'm just not organized enough to plan "cool" work clothes.


This top is a favorite of mine purchased with my Anthro birthday discount last year. I picked up a few things this year, but have not really been inspired that much by anything.

Speaking of sales, the Nordstrom half-yearly sale starts today and some shoes I have been eyeing are 30% off. I may have to buy a pair!

How many different things do you wear in one day?

On a good, busy day I wear at least 4 different outfits! One for running, one for yoga, one for the day and one for the night. Seems like it may be excessive, but it's really not.

I bought this dress before I left for India for less than $10 new. This is why I don't go thrifting...I feel like I can find new stuff for just as much (although I understand thrifting is much more green, etc., etc.). I went with my boys to see Bridesmaids on Saturday after yoga. Kristen Wiig is hilarious!

And this dress was a recent acquisition from our trip to San Francisco. I love the unusual cut and pattern, and that it can be dressed up or down. I'm sure it will get a lot of wear this summer.
